The Original Persona 5

Ойындар

In the early 2010s, Persona 4 had taken the RPG world by storm. Even as western shooters and cinematic games took the mainstream market by storm, Persona 4 continued receiving new sequels and adaptations with every passing year. While anticipation had started to run high for Persona 5, most fans didn't notice that the game they were waiting so fervently for was already floating around online-5 years before its eventual release.
This video covers and explores the mystery surrounding the original Persona 5 that began circulating online in early 2012. Originally known simply as "Persona 5", it would later be known as the Persona 5: Imagining Project.

Nothing better than having vague memories of looking up Persona soundtracks on KZread then looking at a soundtrack for a game that doesn't even exist, then watching your video and figuring out what it was all about. I can't say I was one of the people who believed in the ruse, but then again, that's probably because I became aware of the franchise closer to that original P5 teaser (2014ish).

The amount of views this video has makes me overjoyed to witness (hoping more people will become interested in it now). Hopefully the creator of this project sees this as well, I'm sure it would make them happy too. Thank you for mentioning my blog in the video and the special thanks, that was really kind of you.

I really miss moments like this in the earlier internet days where you can just blindly stumble across something and become lost in the what ifs regarding it. I remember being on forums talking about Persona 5 imagine when the uploads were new and the speculations regarding them was insane. A lot of the songs imo also did line up with what Persona 5 actually did become too. I love persona 5 (royal specifically) and had a blast when i finally got my hands on it in 2020 but damn did I not have random fever dream thoughts of the imagination project while I was playing it.

Damn I feel this hard. Different series, but I remember going through something similar with Street Fighter back in the day. When it seemed like SF4 was never going to happen, I used to theorize with my friends what the SF characters and storyline of the future would look like. I of course appreciate that I did get to see the return of an IP I love, especially since it continues to go strong now. But also you just can't help but hold on to those what ifs.

I'm happy to have contributed to the preservation of this project. I still listen from time to time and kill time imagining what kind of story AxP5 was trying to tell through this music. I also have grown quite fond of several artists included in the project and listen to them today!

personally wouldn't like any new mainline persona games to follow this aesthetic tbh, it just feels pretty opposite to the social mechanics in the recent games, ontop of all of the new games from 3-5 has had a more upbeat and stylistic nature to it, this would just be odd. It fits more into a mainline SMT game than a persona game imo

Concept-wise the creator actually made a lot of thematically fitting choices. The “puppeteer” motif is a great because you can tie in elements like “Rebelling against the Creator” or “Cutting ties with what’s controlling you”. I’ve only played P4 and P5 but a mirror world seems like another intuitive option as the “reflection” cognitive world that ties into the collective unconscious. This fan project had a really cool premise… maybe a theater/stage as the Velvet Room would’ve been cool!

Love the video, liking and commenting for boost! I’m exciting to check out the music. One correction for anyone who loves art: Black, white, and grey images are actually ‘Achromatic!’ Monochromatic refers to images with only one hue, such as all values of blue. If you desaturate a monochromatic image then it has no chroma (or color) just black and white + all the gray values between-achromatic!

The nerd in me is screaming to talk about Greco-Roman linguistics, as knowing your prefixes can really spice up your vocabulary. I doubt anyone wants to hear about the breakdown of the word heterochromatism, the concept of differing colored eyes, or the word chromatology, which has the suffix that denotes it's the science of color. Chromatology is how we discern the elemental makeup of some stars out there based on what elements burn what colors. Yeah see I can't help it. Nerding out over language. Feel free to use prefix knowledge to make your own words, like trichromatism or calling a four-wheelers quadrocycles.

P5 IP was 100% a labour of love of the series. It has that spark that warms your heart like that later iterations of Persona were known for and the project made me so happy during that really long limbo between P4 and P5. It was nothing short of Magical and it kinda brought the community together in a hopeful way. I know I've left messages on those vids asking around if anyone knew if this was a real leak but I always knew in my heart it couldn't be real. P5IP will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Thanks for the shoutout Blue! I have to stress to you the impact AtlusxP5 project had on so many young people including me! To be honest back then I always knew it was to good to be true but it was the music that really pulled you in! And that’s the same feeling I wanted to give other people. I wanted people to hear some music from different places, and get into mixing as well. I’m so happy a video is being done on this. My channel was made as a tribute to the same feelings P5 Imagining Project gave so many people, regardless of it being fan made. Wow! This was an amzingly well done Video Essay on the project! I had originally stumbled into the project when trying to find some small bits of music from the recently revealed Official Persona 5 but never knew that there was more to the story via the Atlus Forums or via the channel's Twiiter! Thanks for shedding some much deserved light on this fantastic fan project!

I'm glad the project is getting the exposure deserves today. I 100% brought into this back in the day. I was a huge persona four fan and the very happy persona 5 became the hit that it has. However I have a attachment to the imagine project which I realise as you say is maybe in part that such a project like this can never exist in the internet today. With the shroud of the music revealed in part thanks to things like Spotify, I now have quite a few of these songs on my liked to rotation. Tightrope and Hanabi being my favourites: and when I listen to them I very much have the idea of this project a black and white persona in my mind. Actually a big fan of MEG and her Collab works now. Thank you for making this video I don't know why but the whole thing around this just tickles a very special feeling.

It's kinda hard to believe how people fell for this project back in the day given how dedicated fans are when it comes to researching, analysing and sourcing stuff like this, and in the case of the imagining project it wouldn't have been even that hard to "debunk" it, but I guess when it comes to stuff like this it's often times our own suspension of disbelieve that makes us buy into these "fan leaks". After all we all wished for the announcement for Persona 5, and when we see such high quality output like with that of the atlusxP5 yt channel, we of course want it to be real.

I have run into these as someone who got into the franchise in 2019, I have ran into these and love them because it feels like a view into an alternate timeline and I love it. The battle theme Tralala goes off so hard to the point where I just view it as a true Persona Battle theme.

I'm incredibly pleased to see that somebody covered the topic on the Imagining Project! I came across the project earlier this summer and was instantly taken aback from the fan-made soundtrack, so much so that I really got interested and curious about the project. After doing some searching and browsing, I found tidbits of info and history behind the project like the protagonist's name being Kai and the various bits of the hypothetical story. I would one day love to see this concept fully built into a fan game honestly!

I remembered discovering the Persona 5 Imagining project way back in 2012. The music was actually really good and memorable, I still go back and listen to it from time to time. Nice to see someone finally put in the work to break down this highly imaginative fan project. I love the real P5 OST but there's something special about the P5 Imagining soundtrack.

It wasn't until the P4G Steam release that i started my "SMT phase", playing lots of games of the franchise, making SMT my favorite franchise period even if i still have tons of the games left, and i gotta say, now that i'm on the last dungeon of Digital Devil Saga 1, the story that Persona 5 Imagining Project presents is something i could 100% see as an SMT Spin-off, maybe from the PS2 era, to the point i think it's a shame it hasn't been made a fan game with such an interesting concept such as Manipulation, which could be very neatly tied to Demons, Angels and even Gods.

Amazing work with this video. I think I was the first to reupload all of the songs the first time the ATLUSxP5 channel had removed the songs. I had contacted the ATLUSxP5 channel back after they started uploading again and got their blessing on reuploading their songs while letting them know I'd be happy to remove them should they wish me to or if they wanted to reupload themselves. Those messages seem to be lost to the old KZread inbox. I guess as one note to it, our discussion was in English so them being a person from the Atlus Faitful forums could be correct. I stopped following the project with life getting busy and then stopped using this account too, hard to believe this was nearly 12 years ago. This was a great walk down memory lane, thank you for this dive into the story.

It surprises me how similar the actual P5 was to the IP. There's a lot of monochromatic themeing in the actual P5 (even if the theme is 'red'), the idea about being 'a puppet' (*cough cough* igor), going into a 'mirror world' (palaces/mementos), and so on so forth. Still listen to the soundtrack even today lol, and also appreciate assinine syndrome's other fan project albums they worked on :D

I'm impressed by the "Act IV the judgement" summary containing a weirdly on-point story beat as well lmao. "Howard Carter is tricked by the false Philemon to thwart the Protagonist and Nyarlathotep from their plans - or else see all his friends die." We definitely got a false Velvet Room person there, who also tricked Joker into doing Metaverse tampering - until we really saw all our friends disappear from reality when the public forgot about the PT... And yeah, the ideas of Howard Carter & Nyarlathotep are definitely drawing on P2's usage of Lovecraft mythology - but still it's hilarious P5 Royal would ALSO dip from Lovecraft in a similar manner to P2 xD

Ah man, this soundtrack was really something for me. I found it in my Junior year right before the actual Persona 5 was announced, at a time where I was really getting into the series. I watched both P4 animes, I watched the first movie of P3, and even started playing the game on my own time, Those amazing Hiimdaisy comics, and I even watched Persona Trinity Souls. I kinda knew finding this fan-made soundtrack was fake, but I couldn't help but be captivated by how good the soundtrack was, and how cool the concepts being presented was. Would still very much like a Persona game that follows the direction being presented here. I believe it was my first genuine introduction to a lot of music made from Japanese bands and artists, as well as making me fall in love with the sounds of Jazz and Funk (which I'm glad the actual Persona 5 lingered on). I remember playing this soundtrack quite a few times, and I associate this fan-album with the city of San Francisco as this is what I would listen to when I was on a week long school trip there looking at different colleges. Some of the songs like Movin' and Beauty Flows are songs I still love and listen to today, and I never would have found them without this soundtrack. I of course still love the actual P5 that we got, and it was an extremely influential part of my teenage years, but I have to admit, this imagining project also left quite a profound impact on me as well.

I remember lurking through the forum thread back in 2012-2013, being so immersed in the story presented by AxP5. Reading through all of the theories, and looking forward to what happens next. It made the wait for the actual Persona 5 bearable lmao. The fan soundtrack has a special place in my heart. Through it I discovered Yasutaka Nakata, known for his works on Perfume, KPP, MEG, and of course, CAPSULE. Along with P5IP's bangin songs, it completely changed my music tastes. I still listen to the soundtrack to this day, and it's always such a vibe to play during commutes. To the creator of the project, if you're reading this, thank you for changing my life. And thank you for covering the topic, Blue. As mentioned in the top comments, P5IP does deserve a place in internet history.
