So nostalgic. I feel like people cared about each other a little more back then somehow.

Upon contacting TVNZ, although they refused to send me a personal copy, they have told me that they plan to upload all three versions of the Goodnight Kiwi to their KZread channel soon, so keep tuned there for any updates.

Not to mention, I think it's more expensive to run a TV channel 24/7 than just during the daytime anyways. No wonder why I'm seeing more advertisements on television nowadays, the channels are needing more money to keep running 24/7!

First time I've seen this version. By the time we got TV2 in Southland in 1976 it had changed its name to South Pacific Television.

The TV2 closedown in 1975 goes something like this. You see a TV2 logo rotating (the logo is on a cardboard triangle rotated by a record player filmed by a Marconi camera, the ident was broadcasted live like BBC did with their idents at the time) and you hear the announcer (e.g. Ross Goodwin) announcing the time, and then he says something like "This is TV2" (or Television 2) and "A service to the Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand", and the announcer wishes you a good night, and then they play the Goodnight Kiwi animation. Here's a South Pacific Television closedown from the late 70's announced by Ross Goodwin that TVNZ uploaded recently. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aImI2Nainbmqd6g.html

Yes, but the closedown that you are talking about was used in 1976-1980 when TV2 was rebranded as South Pacific Television, but before that. This closedown was used for every night. Sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native Speaker.

I remember it was a big deal talking about it at school if you’d ever seen the good night kiwi. Because it meant that you’d stayed up till midnight and what eight-year-old gets to do that apart from maybe New Year’s Eve.

Did you actually receive permission from TVNZ to upload this? I had contacted them regarding this version of the Goodnight Kiwi which ultimately culminated in its discovery. However, when I tried to upload it to KZread back in 2016, TVNZ filed a copyright complaint and took it down.

There is also another version where the kiwi sleeps in the TV camera or something. I think its on youtube somewhere too. Im interested to find the image they would screen if they had technical issues, I remember seeing the kiwi holding a broom that had smashed one of the monitors. There is also one of the kiwi tripping over a power plug or something.

@@nzoomed That version you are describing is the 1976-1980 version of the Kiwi that Robert Copeland took a photo of in 1978 while he was on holiday in New Zealand. Also that footage that is already on KZread, was partial footage used for a news report in 1994.
