Amanda's blade is likely the exact one Jigsaw used to slit Tapp's throat. His tragedy is so unsung. He warms his hands at the campfire because he remembers how cold and clammy he felt when it happened. All of his perks show that he's still obsessed with objectives. How many times has he put a generator before an unhook, only to hate himself even more after because he's reminded of Sing? The Realm itself is an eternal Jigsaw test that mocks his failures. Others like Leon and Cybil probably try to comfort him, saying he's doing his duty but he knows that's not true. He might think he's deserves to end up in the Void. He's become so empty as a person and he knows it. A ghost denied peace. I wish I could give him a hug so much!

Considering Amanda's mori is a quick and clean throat cut, it would make sense if they're the same blade. Poor guy gets his throat slashed in the same way, with the exact same knife, following a case he was never able to solve. You bring up a lot of great points, I feel like I have a better understanding of his character now.

Some side notes for certain ones: Bubba's chainsaw is in some continuities a birthday gift from his father when he became old enough to kill and slaughter animals, and eventually people. Ghostface has an almost exact copy of his Scream series counterpart, a buck 120, aside from a slightly different hilt. Pyramid Head while also representing half of a pair of scissors, possibly a reference to James missing half, Mary, it is also likely a reference to the knife that Angela gives him that she was using a both protection, and to "punish herself". Legion's knives also represent their personalities pretty well, a simple hunting knife for the leader, Julie's being a copy of her other half, a flashy one for the show off who wants to be heard, and a custom and more artsy weapon for the basket case type. The Dredge's weapon is a tilling blade, meant to, ironically, dredge the crops of the community and feed them/keep them alive.

I think the Skull Merchant's weapons are also a homage to Predator, something that she seems to be a homage to in general, with a large theme of her story and being talked about often in the behind the scene video's is her love of hunting "The most dangerous game."

Madame Butterfly is the name of an opera by Puccini, actually. Madama Butterfly was a Japanese teen who was married off to an American sailor. When he left her, with a child, she waited for him. Realizing she could not be the wife he wanted, she killed herself. That's a very abridged rundown, but the relation it has to clown could be that much like how the American sailor used the Japanese teen, he uses his victims. They are but something to enjoy and discard once the fun has been had, and then it's time to move on to the next

The pyramid head knife being two halves of a pair of scissors sounds a little strange to me. If James acquiring it in Silent Hill 2 is supposed to be seen as evidence of this, then it should be said that by the time it becomes _possible_ to acquire the great knife, pyramid head himself is seen in game having abandoned it in favour of a spear, and he is never seen with the knife again all the way up to the end of the game. Unless there's developer commentary or something directly confirming it to be the case, I am disinclined to believe that the scissors thing is true.

Ranking of the weapons from a practical/lethal point of view: -27: Fist, Nemesis. Worst weapon used by any of the killers, simply because any other weapon from the list would do more damage in Nemesis hand, the lethality from the fist comes from Nemesis strength, not the fist itself, weapons are supposed to be a force multiplier, a fist is not a dedicated weapon to begin with. -26: Hook and chain, Cenobite. Too small and light to inflict significant damage compared to almost any other weapons on the list, effectiveness has to come from Pinhead's powers rather than from the weapon itself. The tool itself can hardly be called a weapon. -25: Bone saw, Nurse. Saw blades are not good weapons, and this is a medical tool and not a dedicated weapon. Would do a fair bit of damage if well sharpened and hitting skin directly, but any clothing will get cought in the teeth of the blade and protect almost totally from the hit. A hit to the throat or tendons would be dangerous, the rest of the body would be very safe if the person getting attacked by it isn't standing still on an operation table. -24: Sickle-hook, Twins. Horrible design for a weapon, the blade is so recurved that the edge is basically unusable, the point points so inward that it is also pretty much impossible to use and would make for extreamly akward thrusts. Only thing this weapon has for itself is being cartoonishly thick, making it heavy enough to cause brunt trauma, but the weight distribution makes it even bad at this, as a hammer of the same weight would be more effective. More a "cool" looking fantasy prop than an actual weapon supposed to be used. -23: Censer, Plague. Makeshift flail without a handle, the size and sharp corners is the only things this weapon has for, but it is ridiculously massive, getting hit by this thing swung from over her shoulder would deliver a lot of impact. But flails are rather capricious weapons and she would be better off using almost anything else, inclueding a real proper arming flail. -22: Barbarous claw, Demogorgon. Small unsharpened nail claws, while pointy bits are never a bad design, his are rounded and rely on finger/hand strength to get the job done. -21: The Claw, Hag. Massive nail claw, yet still unsharpened. Would be pretty good at piercing flesh but a real claw would also cut through it. The size makes it better than the ones of the Demogorgon. -20: Clawed Glove, Freddy. Sharp metal claws on a glove, making it cut and pierce flesh effectively. The main problem with this weapon is that the fingers have no support, so it can only hit as hard as your fingers can handle before bending and breaking backward. Basically it's knives used by the fingers rather than the whole hand. -19: Chainsaws. Tools not made to kill nore cut flesh. Unweildy, noisy and can run out of gas making them useless. The special chain with curved blades might help it cut flesh, but it would still take time for it to inflict a deep wound. Yet In the good conditions they can inflict really nasty injuries, even tho it'd be easier to get them by accident rather than trying to inflict them upon someone. -18: Hunting Knife, Legion. A tacti-cool knife with looks first in mind rather than efficiency for people that don't know much about knives. That wide tanto point directly having saw teeth on the back would make stabbing with is pretty bad (but the saw would inflict a horrible wound). -17: Madame Butterfly. Wide blade giving it a thinner edge. Not sure why the knife has a middle ridge spine when it's single edged blade, could bave been either double edged or have a single bevel from the edge to the other side of the blade, as it is half the blade is kinda wasted for cosmetics. It's enormous size is a plus, otherwise would have ranked lower, as it is it's basically a leaf-blade dagger with the downside of being foldable (= far weaker construction). -16: Buck 120, Gohstface. Knife intended for hunting, field dressing carcasses or putting down animals still alive after getting shot. The blade is long and sharp, making it a good weapon for either stabbing or cutting. Blade is so long it tends to break tho, and the handle has a reputation for being slippery once wet, but the design itself makes it a good weapon. -15: Hidden Blade, Pig. It's a push-dagger, but weaker in construction due to the mechanism to retract it. Less versatile than a regular knife, but punshing with such a blade would be devastating, and the blade is double-edged and designed to be a weapon (not a tool repurposed into weapon). -14: Combat Knife, Wesker. A proper weapon, only a bit short compared to the others down the list. -13: Razor-Sharp Dual Blades, Skull Merchant. Wrist blades with this orientation aren't great, but the size make them a pretty good weapon. No point in having 2 blades tho, it only reduce the individual cutting power of each blade on impact. -12: Death to Bayshore, Deathslinger. A spike at the end of a rifle. The reach is the best thing about it and why it ranks so well despite having an awkward handle and the spike itself nit having the best shape (crooked and with some edges). -11: Stick, Doctor. A spiked club. While the spikes would inflict more damage, they can also make the weapon deviate and lose impact. Also, it is an improvised weapon and it shows in the design, the spikes run dangerously low towards the hand and the whole thing looks like empty alluminum, so not heavy enough for a real club. Ranking it here because benefice of doubt, but could be around 20. -10: Hammer, Hillbilly. Not much to say, it's a big hammer. Not balanced to be a weapon at all, but a single hit from it will probably break bones, a hit on the heal is probable death. The handly being in poor shape could be a massive problem, but I'm not taking it into consideration here. With the busted handle it ranks 23. -9: Sledge, Leatherface. Same as above, but is in better condition. -8: Azarov's Skull, Wraith. Kind of a 3 bladed hand-axe. One blade would be better as it wouldn't spread the force into 3 and so would cut deeper. Not taking into account a spine is a horrible idea for a handle as it's probably going to break at some point, same for the skull holding the blades. -7: Polished Head-Smasher, Trickster. Strange weapon. Seeing how he can spin it around I assume the baseball-bat is alluminum and so the whole thing isn't too heavy. Would make for a good cleaver, but the bat would stop the blade from cutting deeper than it is wide which is a really big problem, the weapon would not be able to cut really doop into things. -6: Broad Axe, Huntress. The blade and length makes it better than the hammers, but it's not a dedicated weapon but a tool, so it's not balanced for fighting and would be exhausting to use that way, like any other tool used as a weapon it would be way too heavy. Still, a single hit from it is probably all it would take to put someone down -5: Cleaver, Trapper. Harder to miss with than with the Broad Axe, the Cleaver would be really heavy and difficult to use, and the edge isn't the greatest (but the weight would help it go through flesh). The size is what makes it better than a knife, as even without edges a piece of metal of that size would be very dangerous to be hit by. -4: Bonebuster, Blight. A cane used as a warhammer with a very sharp point. Almost a proper weapon, if only the handle was straighter. A hit by a warhammer with sich a sharp and long point would be almost certain death no matter where it lands. -3: Kitchen Knife, Shape. It's a short sword. For a kitchen knife this thing is massive. It's a short sword, plain and simple. -2: Yamaoka Blade, Oni. A proper weapon made to kill. Nothing more to say about it, it's a tool designed to kill effectively. The shattered version of Spirit would be serated which is a big problem for a cutting blade and would rank it around 20. -2: Imposing Claymore, Knight. Without the tip, it's closer to an executioner sword, but it's a greatsword made for battle and as such would be a very effective weapon (ignoring the battle damage it displays). The teeths on the lower half of the blade are only detrimental tho. -1: Great Knife, Pyramid Head. Assuming you can swing it around, best weapon out of all the killers. The reach is insane and the weight would crush anyone touched by it if the edge doesn't do its job. The grip is strange even for the way Pyramid Head uses it, but it's not that big of a deal. But it is so big that you need supernatural strength to use it, so as it is it's either 1st if you can use it as the owner does or a useless giant piece of steel ranked 25th because it would be difficult to even drag it on the ground. Not ranked: Sadako's Ring of Fury, Artist's Pallet Knife, Dredge's Knotted Appendage. These weapons are too supernatural to be ranked compared to the other weapons or have weird properties that make them hard to rank (like Dredge's weapon that looks very soft in the wiping animation).

I wouldn't say theory about executioner's great sword is bad, but it's just lame and too direct for the Silent Hill 2, i guess. The scissors could mean in the Fraud's psychoanalysis self-castration, which mean refusal of sexual life and self-restraint. As i know Masahiro Ito had read Fraud's treatise, that's why many monsters have sexual symbolism in themselves. I really find this theory much more interesting and appropriate to PH.

It could be argued that Tarhos’ weapon, his Claymore, is either his own creation, or the blade of Apollyon, from For Honor (hence the crossover). A lot of people kinda just ignore that The Knight was made as an OC to nod towards the lore and world of For Honor. Speaking of Apollyon, my god do I want her armor as a Legendary skin for Tarhos.

Leatherface's hammer is supposed to a symbol of the meat industry. The sick and cruel way they would bash the brains out of cows with a sledgehammer. And the film is supposed be the "what if the cows were human?", So it's supposed to be this cattle hammer and the brutality it would bring to people.
