In this video, Grant teaches us how to train with a jump rope - going over all the basics and building up to more advanced techniques. This is a comprehensive tutorial that I wish I had a lot sooner!
A jump rope is one of the best tools you can use to burn calories, increase cardiovascular performance, improve footwork and reflexes, and to make training actually fun. It's also a surprisingly effective way to build bigger calves.
Whether you're looking to get slimmer, improve your footwork for martial arts, warm up for resistance training workouts, or anything else - learning the jump rope is a great place to start. And this video should be perfect for getting you on that journey.

    hey there.. have you got any tips on how to get started with jump ropes when you're an injured OOOOOOOOOOLD man (39). due to skateboarding and bmxing most of my life i now have to use a cane while going for longer walks, too long of a walk and my knees give up anyway and i can barely stand up / walk back home. any ideas? blew my knee out while jogging (on ephedra) about 20 years ago and have been struggling ever since. love your channel btw. /sue

    I do a lot of skipping for fitness and since starting in 2020 during lockdown I've never felt fitter and it's helped in my martial arts training. The channel that got me into it is The Jump Rope Dudes, I'd highly recommend them. Another great channel is Rush Athletics, he has a wealth of great videos, drills, skills and tutorials.

  • @borisa5642

    @borisa5642

    I really recommend to not watch these channels at all because they mostly exist to sell you on their overly expensive jump ropes. Jump Rope Dudes are the biggest salesmen of Crossropes. No one needs a 150$ weighted jump rope to lose weight or build muscle. Rush Athletics is the same but worse. He is also trying to sell you 140$+ weighted ropes but hes also trying to sell you the cheap pvc rope from this video which you can get anywhere for 5$ or less as his own branded "money rope" for 25$. These channels are really only preying on lazy people who think they finally found a shortcut to fitness and weightloss. I went trough various types of jump ropes (the most expensive one being a 50€ weighted rope) and I always come back to my cheap PVC rope similar to that in this video and I do with it everything thats been shown here. You don't need anything else unless you wanna do freestyle tricks or if you want to compete. Most people will never need a "speedrope" or a weighted rope.

    And it's obviously very easy to pack for workouts when you're on the road for work or vaca. Try nine 3-minute rounds rotating through sit-ups, push-ups and air squats between. Another good one is "Wounded Knee" which is 200 skips followed by 10 kettlebell snatches each side > 200 skips 9 each side and just follow that ladder finally down to 200 skips and 1 kettlebell snatch each side.

    I’ve been practicing for the last month and I still trip after like 20 seconds. Viewing a recording of myself I notice that the rope moves and arrives at my feet before my right side making me trip. I think it’s because my left arm/wrist/hand is trying to compensate being less dominant. I guess I still have to keep practicing.

    Difficult to tell with the clear rope - where does your rope contact the ground in relation to your feet? When I try letting mine contact the ground out in front of my feet, it tends to bounce off the floor and catch on the bottom of my feet. When I try letting mine contact the ground underneath my feet, it tends to catch on the ends of my toes on the way down. Besides location, should it be held high enough that it's barely be contacting the floor, or should I be a bit lower and hitting the floor with more force on the way through? TIA for any tips you can offer.
