Drilling out seats and other compound angles is tricky, but it doesn't have to be. This jig makes it stupid easy.

I changed the price to $1 since I think a lot of people are just downloading for the sake of downloading. I’m getting bombarded with emails so I’m hoping $1 barrier to entry helps with that. If $1 is too much, email me directly and I’ll help you out.

AMAZING! Thank you for making it simple and accessible… would love to see more chair making content. Maybe a spindle drilling jig
You never disappoint. Every video is a gem.
I don't make chairs, but that video made me want to try. That is the coolest jig I've seen in a long time. Nice work and a great entertaining video!

Thanks very much! I recommend building a small stool or table using the staked joinery technique and see if you like it. Chairs aren't complicated, its just lots of small steps that come together.
Thanks Dustin - appreciate your sharing the plans
This is so great, brother! I can barely check my email, and am very jealous of your computer skills. What a fun way to iterate!

When I saw the “I ❤ DP” print, I almost did a spit take! Whether that was intentional or not, it was hilarious.

Great, excellent accuracy, howeeeeeeever, I thought you were going to make a compound angle jig, very tricky, probably involving a universal joint of some kind, I await that one 😊

This is for compound angles.
Awesome jig! Thank you! I am imagining a shorter one because I only have a few of those extended ones, and off set from the base for for use with spade bits. Game changer!
Brilliant, Dustin! Fantastic work!!! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Very nice! I have used my laser for jigs and tools just about more than anything else so far- very handy. Couple of things to consider for a future iteration- slots and bearings. I love to tab and slot things to put together- it just makings alignment that much better and if you cut them right it can make things more precise. To increase accuracy even more, I think I would put bearings in the pivoting piece for the extension rod. Typing that just now made me think of another one... maybe an option to tighten down the pivot before you drill so that it is locked in to the angle you are drilling. Probably a lack of coordination, but I know the luck I would have trying to hold a pivoting piece at an angle and trying to hold a drill bit into the pivot at the same time. If I get time I will try to get you a sketch.

I see what you're saying, but it's not necessary. A shown in the video, it's already giving perfect results. I would have been happy if it was within 1 degree. The bearing on the pivot point makes no sense. It's not like you're moving enough to generate friction.
I will never do this, but thanks for taking me along on the journey. Most enjoyable!😊

That's a great idea. I have been wondering how to jig up for some angled holes. Not large ones as you were making but small, up to 3mm. I can miniaturise the design as I've had to do for 4" table saw and a small router table.

Yes, another DP video. It is going to be a great day. That jig is brilliant, and a great upgraded modern design.

Sorry, had to comment twice on this one... Dustin makes God-tier jig. Dustin explains articulation of "spinny thing" on said jig. Parts of me wish i could explain to (anyone) why this is $%&@*^! hilarious!

I like the jig. Did I miss where you set the angle?
Now you have something in common with NASA - after an expensive mistake (in their case the loss of the Mars Climate Orbiter) - you both came to the realisation that the Metric system rules.

Made the jig! It’s great. Any modifications made to your drill bit? Mine keeps wanting to “walk” a bit at the beginning, pushing my alignment off. Thanks!

Lasers are nice, but it’s the unsightly burnt edges which IMO are ugly. Wish they could fix that, but it’s impossible.
The link provided for the steel rod is only 6" long. Yours seems a fair bit longer than that. Am I missing something?

These are through holes, right? Not blind holes? I was assuming you were drilling blind holes from the bottom but they would be canted the wrong way!

Good stuff! Does the marker (paint pen?) on the edges seal in the charring, or is it just esthetic? I’ve been struggling with making edges that don’t transfer charring onto things!
@dpmakestuff

A little of both. I sand the edges to knock off the crispy bits but it looks like crap after.

Like I said you made a really well though out tool. I've made some bar stools in the past and had struggles on getting compound angles just right. I guess no one cares about their personal information floating around in the cloud. Guess I'll just lie about name and addresses from now on. Thanks for the plans, it will make these kinds of projects easier.@@dpmakestuff

Movie magic.
First off, NEVER look up jigs while in "incognito mode"..... C'mon, man! You know the government is watching! Secondly, and I say this seeing that you clearly like dabbling in new things/challenges - you should try incorporating some leather work into your projects. Im a woodworker myself (not at your level), but I have been thinking of ways to incorporate the two in "collaborative" projects... Anyways.... Cheers!
