Add the 1.4 Teleconverter and you cover a huge range! Works very wenn on the 70-300

The "one fits all" philosophy (or two in this case) is not always right, as the success of the X100 series show. There are conditions for these lenses, but for me the real fun of photography is a fixed high speed lens between 23 and 35 mm. So this would be my third lens, light and versatile if you just want to have your camera with you. And fine for evening or streets.

I totally agree, I use the 23mm f2 prime on my xt4 almost exclusively when im traveling to cities and so on, I just wanted to show a two lens kit, that can be used for so many different kinds of photography, it almost covers the entire range. I think people often times get lost in the gear aquisition and sometimes buy lenses that arent really necessary, as they may now use them as much as they thought they would.

I haven't done much photography lately with my long term XPro2 since my Sony Xperia phone is my main general camera. If I had to carry one general lens, it be the XF35mm 1.4. I find myself photographing for specific occassions only these days; using the superb XF18mm 1.4 for astrophotography(though 24mp camera is adequate though I want a 75mp if ever economically possible) and the XF150-600mm would be ideal for birding photography, as a rental...

I agree with you on this combination. I am amazed at how much I love the 70-300. It is the lens that is on my camera 80 percent of the time. My first Fuji lens was the 18-55. It came with my xt3. I love the small form factor. I did recently purchase the Tamron 17-70 2.8. Now I travel with the 70-300 & 17-70. Both lenses share the same filter size. The Tamron is much larger then the Fuji kit lens, almost as big as the 70-300. But I get better low light performance with the Tamron.

Yea I have heard a lot of good things about the 17-70 tamron lens. And yea, the 70-300 is also on my camera like 80% of the time, especially in woodlands, which came as a surprise to me.

New sub here! Great work😊 I'm contemplating getting the Fujifilm XT5. I'm not sure which kit lense I should get with it. I'm also considering just getting the base and then buying the Fujifilm XF16-55MMF2.8. What would you recommend? I shoot mostly street photography and landscape.

Thanks! It depends on wether you mind the weight and size of the 16-55mm. It does have superb image quality, but often people enter the Fuji x system for the minimal and compact cameras and lenses. Maybe you should wait for the new 16-50mm that will come out together with the xt50. The great thing about that lens is that it doesn’t increase in size when zooming. Great for street photography in my opinion. Otherwise I’m quite happy with my 16-80 f4, as I have a lot of range for landscape and don’t really use low apertures anyway.

16-80 has some hate, and I don’t understand why. It’s great!

I’ve heard it too, I don’t get it. Maybe because the 18-55 is still revered as one of the best kit lenses there ever was and the 16-80 didn’t live up to those people’s dreams I guess.

I regret trading my 18-55 for the 16-80. The 16-80 is heavier and does not focus as quickly as the 18-55 did for me. Also, I miss the f/ range. I also have the 55-200 and the 70-300. I rarely use the 70-300 and usually carry the 55-200. And nothing worse than going for a quick shot and realizing the lock is on because you've been hiking and not wanting it to slip to its longer length. Granted, both are nice lenses and weather resistant. I still think the 18-55 and 55-200 is a nice combo. More and more I'm using my primes (14, 35, 50 so far) as they are lightweight and much better bokeh.

IMO both are awesome combos! For myself the 16-18 and 70-300 is the the better combo simply because of WR and the fact that I don’t need lower f-stops. I never really shoot below f4 or f5.6, except for video and that I shoot on my 23mm f2 mostly.
