Digging in my backyard, I found a little hatchet that was buried for years. I took the head off and submerged it in apple cider vinegar for a week. WOW. It is a 5'" Craftsman double oval. Now to sharpen it and stain and wax the 10" handle. Thank you Chris for showing great videos that maybe a 78 year old girl can do...My husband would have been proud.....Next, maybe I'll tackle a big girl axe...Covid has me doing crazy stuff.

I can't stress enough how good it feels to swing a cruiser double bit. It really shows how balance does affect the feel of an axe when you use it. Maybe my favorite splitter is a worn double bit cruiser that's only about a tenth of a pound over 2. Now that I think about it, it's hung on one of your really thin cruiser handles. Those things make a cruiser axe feel great. You really can't judge an axe until it's well hung on the right kind of handle. Are the Adirondacks similarly thin?

Glue is just a security blanket. No substitute for a proper fit. When the wedge shrinks, the glue will keep it in place. But glue is not necessary.

It's call an Adirondack handle. They made them because on a double bit typically one bit was used more than the other. This way, you have a curved handle for most of your work.
