CEBU CITY MAP:
geoperspective.org/product/ce...
Cebu city history is very interesting considering it is the oldest major settlement in the Philippines and the first Spanish settlement. With major chapters including Lapu Lapu and Magellan, the Philippine revolution and world war 2. Today Cebu is one of the most prosperous cities in the Philippines.

I was born in Cebu City and lived in Cabantan St., Mabolo. As a kid I used to stray by foot to explore places of the city. In 1970 Metropolitan Cebu used to be composed of 5 cities namely: Cebu; Mandaue; Lapu-Lapu; Danao and Toledo. In grade 4 my school Mabolo Elementary School made of wood, lumber and GI roofing constructed in rectangular-U Shape fashioned and stood across the Mabolo Church. At the back of the school was a large river, and beyond lies the broad plain called Reclamation Area formerly the wide-shorelines. During high-tides sea -water entered into our classroom sometimes knee-deep, and the pupils stood perched above at their respective armed chairs while the Teacher also stood on her chair while class is ongoing. The scenario was like an orchestra show where our teacher is the conductress waving the wand, and us the band members. When the Teacher is absent, as kids my friends walked to then Mandaue Salt Farm shorelines fronting Mactan Island Monument where the battle of Mactan took place. During low tide the rocks are exposed along both the shorelines of Mactan and Mandaue. These portion are made shorter to be swim by us between two points back then. We spent lazy days savouring the site and the majestic painting's beauty that depicts the battle between the group of Magellan and Lapulapu. In 1972 the first Mactan Bridge was constructed near the General Milling Yard connecting the island with Mandaue. Adventurous we kids toured by foot around the island. Back then my father and mother had relatives living in Mactan. During Cebu City Sinulog Festival the Battle of Mactan was commemorated and one of our 2nd year high school classmate played the role of Lapu-lapu.. In 1976 the family moved to Villaba, Leyte where my mother originated. In 1983 I joined the military and later absorbed into the PNP.. In almost 34 years of active service I was posted across the land 15 years of which is in BASULTA and mainland Mindanao included Mamasapano in Maguindanao. My distant assignments to deep south for so long destroyed my marriage and alienated me from my 3 kids now all grown professionals. My parents died one after the other without me seeing at their moment of death. In 2016 I retired compulsory. I served my patriotic duty, but not my parents at the time of death. Now I'm alone, homeless and heading straight dead-center ahead to the graveyard to face judgment before God. Life is too short and just passing-by. i still remember my childhood days at Cebu till death. I'm contemplating to reduce into book form how Cebu is describe through the eyes from 1960s to 76, and probably beyond to the nearly 34 years of active service across the land from north of Metro Manila to Bicol Region and Quezon Province from 1984-88; NCR from 88-91; Samar and Leyte from 92-94; back to NCR from 94-2004; BASULTA-& ARMM from 2004-2010 and; Southeastern, Northern, Western and Central Mindanao, Mamasapano included in Maguindanao Province from 2010-2016 til compulsory retirement.

Kudos! The breadth and depth of your KZread presentation of my hometown, CEBU CITY, showed how knowledgeable a person you are. You probably know more of CEBU History than 50% of the Cebuanos; albeit many who now lives in Cebu are themselves migrants from other neighboring provinces of Visayas and Mindanao. Others as far as Manila. Full-blooded Cebuano here as I could trace my genealogy 5 generations before me. Keep up the good work!

Hi. Cebu was founded in 1565 as a pueblo, not as a city. It was only on April 27, 1594 that Cebu was raised to a status of a city by royal decree. Manila is the Philippines' oldest city, having been founded as a city by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1571. Manila's status as a city was attested by the King's Escrivano Mayor in 1572. It was further confirmed by King Philip II's decree on June 21, 1574 when he bestowed Manila its title "Distinguished and ever Loyal City of Manila"
