The leather brake might benefit from having a multiple layer design, as i see it, it seems like it's a single one. That way, it won't stretch. My lathe brake is made from a piece of leather i found on an old hunting bag, a kevlar strap from an elevator safety mcdoo (ebay has stuff like that for cheap) and a brass outer layer, 1.2 mm thick. All riveted with leather rivets. And a nice D ring on the pulling end. Doesn't stretch, grips really good (i can stop a 6 kg chuck from top speed faster than you can say Mississippi).

I had a Whizzer Sportsman as a kid; my happiest hours ever. I still love the sound of the megaphone exhaust. Now I play with 3 wheelers. Fred

i had a whizzer in 1946, as i remember it had a 2&a half hp motor, top speed 35 mph, 125 mpg ,so the ad said.It was street legal in pa.Got it for my birthday, longest ride 60 miles,Phila.to ocean city nj. those were THE GOOD OLD DAYS
