The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

I wrote Mr. Harvey a fan letter and a few weeks after I sent it , I received a telephone call from him early in the morning. He wanted to personally thank me for my " wonderful letter" and for " the vote of confidence ". My grandparents had a large picture of the last supper on their kitchen wall. Back in the 60’s we were at their house for Thanksgiving. My cousin looked at the picture and said “There’s Jesus and all the boys!” My mom sent that in to Paul Harvey. She was listening when he read it on the air. He read what my cousin said and then “Couldn’t have said it better!” My mom listened daily.

That reminds me of something my late husband told me. He used to go and spend summers with his cousins who lived in the country. They were devout Catholics. They were all sitting around the table about to have a meal and right after the prayer, my husband, who was about 12 or so, looked out the window and said, 'there's J.C. and the boys!'. His mom got up and asked , 'Who?' She didn't realize what he was saying. She jumped up, SO mad and chased him around the yard for saying such a disrespectful thing! 🤣Kids!

This is an old school interment. Caskets, in a small mausoleum, sometimes were simply placed on the floor. Especially if there were only two people to occupy the space. And Paul would be on the left. I met Paul and Angel once. Took them for a short ride on a golf cart. Charming couple indeed.

I've never seen a mausoleum with caskets just out in the open like that. I bet they just wanted to RIP and not be recognized. Maybe that's why no names. Still strange how they are just sitting on the floor. Someone has to figure out "the rest of the story". I would leave flowers if I could get in. For now this is the best I can do 💐

Paul Harvey's "Rest Of The Story" series included one on Erich Weiss, being identified at the end as Harry Houdini. I took this to a high school speech tournament, in 1960, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. I followed Mr. Harvey's style as best I could, and won !st Place in Boys Radio. He was my lasting inspiration for continuing speech and into drama. I got to see him in person 3 times, and still have his autograph. What a giant of his industry.

The local 1000 watt AM radio station on Saturday morning played AT40 from 9 to 12. Right after that was the "Saturday Broadcast of Paul Harvey News and Commentary". While listening to AT40 made doing chores a little easier, the unexpected treat as a 13-year-old teen was listening to Paul giving "Saturday Sermons" on topics of the day. His outlook on things caused me to really think on the big topics of life. The guy was so wise! He also did the commercials for sponsors of his show and did a good job as a peddler for them. The weekday show ran about 15 minutes, but the Saturday show ran longer, like 20 minutes. that is when he went more in depth on things. He could "shuck right down to the cobb" as he used to say. He did "bumper snickers", sayings found on the bumper stickers of cars. He became friends with Paul McCartney, which still seems unusual. He was an observer and commenter on world, national, and local events. He would talk about things like the national lawn mower races held at the county fairs around the country. He had an interesting perspective on what was newsworthy and interesting and what was just plain trash. I still wish I could turn on the radio at noon and hear, " Hello Americans! This is Paul Harvey. Stand by for news!"

Great video Ron… I’m guessing the reason him and his wife’s mausoleum is plain with no name on it is what Paul Harvey wanted for privacy so no one would bother anything and he and his wife could rest peacefully… Although having those caskets just sitting out like that not being incased in marble looks like it would draw people to it to break in it… Maybe he was afraid of being buried alive so having his casket sitting out like that, he could get out, if he was by chance still alive… Paul Harvey was one of the greats… Rest in eternal peace Paul & Angel Harvey… Stay safe out there Ron.🙂💟

I especially listened to Paul Harvey this millennium! Back in the 70's I listened to rock and jazz on the radio. In the 80's it was classical and jazz. Only in this century did I listen to radio shows with talking. I loved Paul Harvey! I heard the day he signed off! I wept! I had heard Arthur Godfrey sign off (when I was a wee child), Art Bell sign off (may he rest in peace 😢), and then Paul Harvey. There is a room in my heart for each gentleman. He died in Feb. 2009, a year after he signed off. The listed cause of death was angina pectoris. He was 90. His son, Paul Harvey, Jr., still lives. Why would he bury his parents with no markings, no dates? Maybe someone could write and ask him. It is so odd! Paul Harvey was beloved!

Loved listening to him and his stories. Depending on which of them passed on first, the casket on the left has a lot more dust and such on it. The one that passed last would have less dust and cobwebs.... God bless.

Hi Ron. Paul Harvey was great! Idea: Anyway to find out who built the mausoleum; perhaps it was never finished?

That's a very expensive mausoleum and the two caskets sitting open isn't a bad thing but if they were my parents I'd be in there, dusting it. I probably would have loved to put down like a beige or a Dusty Pink carpet that the caskets could rest on, put a little table with a photo of them if they were my parents, and maybe a cute little fake floral arrangement something simple but kind of homey, to look like that you know they're always close to me..

Kudos to Paul Harvey for taking the advice to go into radio. In my 7 decades of life, I've met 3 individuals with distinctive voices to whom I also gave advice to go into broadcasting. (They didn't). It always surprises me when otherwise very smart people are afraid to take a chance.

My grandmother was a big fan of Paul Harvey, she lived in a single wide trailer and would put me to bed and then would get ready for bed herself all the while listening to Paul, and I would fall asleep to his voice in the 1960s. Good memories. Thanks I enjoyed it.

My dad always had the radio program on with him when I was a kid. I also found him interesting to listen to all the years he was on. We were in NJ at the time, and the big radio programming there was Rambling With Gambling....another good morning show for news. I came across this video, and it's interesting he is buried there in Chicago. I believe he passed away in Phoenix AZ, and I just figured he might have been there somwhere. It certainly is an odd arrangement as burials go. You rarely see actual caskets above ground, and why such a prominent stone, and not a single word on it, but maybe it's a twist on "the rest of the story". Thanks for taking the time to produce this!

You did it.We've talked about Paul on another story I responded to.I listened to him religiously too.One of the most powerful radio presences I remember growing up. I was telling you the story about how everybody in a choir got to practice late only to find the loft floor had collapsed. And you told me you liked Paul and were going to do a story on him there.

I first listened to Paul Harvey in the summer of 1997, which I spent in northern Minnesota. I loved his voice. A couple of years later, I lived in Oak Park, IL. Paul and Angel would come into the restaurant where I worked in the Carleton Hotel. It was called Philander's then. They were both very kind.

I love walking around cemeteries, I always find them particularly relaxing especially on a lovely sunny day, so to do it almost as a job with the history to hand as well, would be great. I am not surprised you have so many subscribers. Best wishes from England.
