    One of the weaker points of the theory yes. But it still doesn't change the fairy ocarina one. We skipped some games and their instruments since it would just repeat statements such as the Harp of Ages. Who litterly was used by The Oracle of Ages to train her powers.

    Oh, I had forgotten how much I hate the harp in Skyward Sword! At least you actually play the ocarina, but here you just mindlessly strum the strings with zero musical intent. It's one thing if there was a more rhythmic nature to the glissandos, but it's essentially a consistent pulse of you going back and forth with no variation.

    Personally i hold the headcanon that both the Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker baton are made of Timeshift Stones from Skyward Sword which is why they both possess time manipulation powers. Do note that whenever Link uses the Wind Waker it creates shiny "sprinkles" similar to the ocarina's implying some magical power of sorts which is inherent to the baton.

    Quick correction here, although the ocarina is never used by link in oot to send himself through time, he does use it to send objects both forward and backwards in time, though this is normally only visible at one place in-game. Playing the song of time doesn't make the door of time-like blocks disappear, it sends them from the child era to the adult era and vice versa. This is normally only seeable in the lava room of Goron city.

  • @kotlolish

    @kotlolish

    Ай бұрын

    Another reason why it doesn't make sense, let alone time shift stones can only time travel back in small areas. Full on time travel always requires a gate. The only "true" time travel instrument is the Harp of Ages... wich the 1st song you learn from Nayru just opens portals (wich Nayru can do without a song) Then you learn a song from a compossor that only sends you back to the present... but he ain't an oracle or knows how the harp works... it's just a song he wrote... wich pushes it more in favor with blessed by the oracle of ages but the magic is STILL Link himself. And that harp isn't even made from Time Shift Stones. The reason I didn't include it in the original script is because it would just be retreading the same thing with the goddess harp. And we know from lore the harp of ages was used by Nayru to train her powers... so again the whole "instrument + song engages the magic of the user." So if anything.. it would just be repeating what we already discussed XD and lengthen the video with an unrelated instrument.. and if we cover that harp we have to cover every instrument in the legend of zelda series.

Special and sacred, in that manner, but other than that, without the Sacred Stones and the Song of Time, it was nothing more than a common instrument in the hands of those who didn't know its significance. I've always thought of it as a little of both tool and user. Also, if you want to talk about something I think many people overlook, you can look into the Ancient Cistern, from Skyward Sword. There are architectural elements we see in the current games, the structure was built by/for a people who can exist under and out of the water, and the whole thing seems to be about purifying water. All pointing to the existence of the Zora.

  • @javiervasquez625

    @javiervasquez625

    Ай бұрын

    There is also the Parellas who "served" the Water Dragon Faron in Lake Floria who, despite lacking the limbs to carry tools and carry out heavy lifting, could potentially have contributed to the construction of the many structures and locations spread across the Faron region of the surface world. Also let's not forget the mysterious builders of the Lanayru Mining Facility which according to the Lore used to be ridden with _sea water_ before it dried up possibly due to pollution combined with the constant mining of the Timeshift Stones. Personally if i had to pick either the Zora, Parellas or the builders of the Lanayru Mining Facility as responsible for the Ancient Cistern my bet would be on the latter given some of the elaborate architecture within the temple which the Zora have never been shown capable of doing across the series.

  • @RyuuKageDesu

    @RyuuKageDesu

    Ай бұрын

    @@javiervasquez625 I like the possible connection with the mines. Though, have two issues with the suggestions. We never see the Parellas out of water. They appear to completely avoid being out of water, if they can avoid it. Any part of a facility not submerged is worthless, and likely inaccessible, to them. (Though, helping is within reason, if they have a way in and out.) Then there are the builders of the mine. If the people could work just fine under water, there would be no point to draining the water. The people responsible for the Cistern are shown to traverse beneath the water as well as below. A bonus detail, is that the large statue has what could easily be scales on the back of the head.

  • @javiervasquez625

    @javiervasquez625

    Ай бұрын

    @@RyuuKageDesu You're right regarding the Parellas been exclusively water-based and thus making them an unlikely candidate as the creators of the (mostly) surface-based Ancient Cistern yet it's worth noting the existence of _evolution_ in the Zelda universe as shown with the Rito and Korok in The Wind Waker leaving open the possibility for the ancestors of the Parellas to have built the cistern before they evolved into a fully aquatic race of squid people. You're also right about the miners who built the Mining Facility lacking a reason to built the cistern without also draining the water yet i don't see why they would need to when they have _technology_ such as the advanced Ancient Robots who could carry out all the underwater construction in order to keep the water from draining. Given the religious significance of the Ancient Cistern i can easily see why the builders of the Mining Facility would build such a temple filled with water out of devotion for their beliefs. ¿Are those really scales behind the statue's head? Even if they are i don't see the logic in deducing it must have been the Zora considering nothing else within the statue even alludes to the Zora race to suggest they must have been the ones responsible for adding such a minuscule detail.

  • @RyuuKageDesu

    @RyuuKageDesu

    Ай бұрын

    @@javiervasquez625 I think they could be scales. The nose is also flat, fitting with the general Zora nose-less/flat-nosed faces. To me, the statue is more of a detail that could fit, if I am correct about the Zora connection, but doesn't directly demand it. It is also less of a stretch to consider the races we have seen, rather than create something new. Sure, it could be something we have never seen before. After all, there was no concept of a Korok before they were introduced; though it would have made no logical sense to theorize about such a race back when Ocarina of Time came out. Until the series includes another race that fits the bill, the Zora are the best option. Though, a few of us have a theory on who it was that constructed the nation we explore the remains of in Skyward Sword. People tend to love it or hate it, so I'll focus on the discussion at hand, for now. You are also correct in that evolution is an in universe thing that happens. But, evolution creates divergent species, not replacements. The Zora and Parella could have absolutely existed at the same time. Just like we have dogs and wolves; one branched out from the other, but we have both.

  • @javiervasquez625

    @javiervasquez625

    Ай бұрын

    @@RyuuKageDesu I would argue you're projecting about the statue been based on a Zora's body shape as we know Nintendo explicitly designed its appereance based on that of the real life Buddha statue which lacks any distinct features even alluding to the obviously fictional Zora race. _"Until the series included another race that fits the bill, the Zora are the best option"_ Why...? There's nothing in the statue which explicitly confirms its origin to be attributed to the Zora plus you have no reason to dismiss the builders of the Lanayru Mining Facility who's use of advanced technology could easily have allowed them to build the cistern without the need of draining the water. ¿Why does it matter if the Zora and Parellas existed "at the same time" when that does not address wether either of them was responsible for the Ancient Cistern's construction? As i pointed out above it's always plausible that an evolutionary ancestor of the Parellas could have been responsible for the cistern's creation just as the Zora were responsible for their many Domains before they evolved into the Rito by the time of The Wind Waker giving plausibility for such a scenario in regards to the currently water-based Parellas. While there's no evidence which corroborates this conclusion the Lore does allow for such a scenario to be possible given its track record of introducing races which change appereance over the span of time.

    Two other things I would like to point out that might further give credence to this theory: first, if the Ocarina of Time itself had magical powers, then Ganondorf would have turned around and dove for it after Zelda threw it into the river. Instead, he keeps chasing her, either taking no notice of the Ocarina, or showing no interest in it at all. Secondly, I believe Zelda could manipulate time with the Ocarina because she was the Goddess of Time in mortal form, and therefore had that power. When Zelda sent Link back to his own time, he also gained a sort of power by being the Hero of Time, so now when Zelda gifted him with the Ocarina before the events of Majora's Mask, he had that special ability now, too. This was why he could use the Song of Time with any of the other instruments. Anyway, this is how your theory makes sense to me, I hope I could share a little more insight with you. Love the channel, keep up the good work!

  • @GhabulousGhoti

    FWIW, while Link doesn't send himself through time with the ocarina, he DOES send objects through time with it. It's not well demonstrated in the game but the way those Temple of Time blocks work is that you play the Song of Time and the blocks travel forward or back in time. You mostly don't see this since most of these blocks are in areas only one version of Link can access, but both Links can access the lava room in Goron City to confirm that this is how those blocks work. So, there is precedent for Link using the ocarina to send things through time, just like Zelda does at the end of the game.

    I never thought about it before, but something they could’ve done that would’ve driven home that the Ocarina of Time was different from the Fairy Ocarina is make the Song of Time unique in one simple way: A single note that only the Ocarina of Time could produce, and the Fairly Ocarina could not. For example, they could’ve made the Fairy Ocarina use only the C-buttons, but not the A button. The Ocarina of Time could’ve added the A button, and the Song of Time, plus all songs of travel to each of the dungeons, could have incorporated that single note in each, thereby making playing those songs _impossible_ without the Ocarina of Time. Wouldn’t have made it magic. Just necessary.

    It's a bit of a stretch to say the Ocarina of Time isn't magical, but I do think it was designed to be more of a key rather than a reality warping artifact in OoT. Saria tells you that the Ocarina sounds 'different' if you contact her with the Ocarina of Time. It could be her just being perceptive, but if not... the Temple of time, and by extension the time blocks could have been designed to respond to its unique tone that the other ocarina won't match. Majora's Mask is where I disagree with you. Mainly with that the Ocarina not being the Deku pipes, etc... it literally is. It changes shape, it takes up the same slot in your inventory as the ocarina. And if I remember in the n64 version the icon doesn't change. When Link changes his form with the masks. none of his other equipment change, you still have those items but you can't use them. We know this isn't Link's inherent abilities because it's the masks that changes him. The Ocarina shouldn't be able to morph into pipes, drums and a guitar but it does anyway.

    Does he loose it though? I would assume he kept the ocarina in his person regardless of not having a use for it anymore considering its a memento from Saria right before he departed his home to begin his quest. Link wouldn't throw away something so special just like that simply because he now has a much "cooler" ocarina so i don't think that's what happens to the Fairy Ocarina.

    Hey Dr. Wily, it's an interesting idea you present here. I did an old video on the topic of instruments too, and came to a different conclusion though. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rKqHraSzoNHJiM4.html In my case, I determined that it is the notes of the songs themselves that are magical. Well, Magical is sort of not the right word here, it more like it is a part of laws of the world that are being activated by what Nayru created. Basically, when she created "the laws of the world" during creation, she put into place the framework for what we would call "magic". Sharp and Flat, the Sheikah Composer Brothers in Kakariko Graveyard, talk about the Ocarina of Time. They explain that they researched the Royal Family Bloodline and created the songs you learn through the game. I believe it wasn't so much "creating" the songs, but rather discovering how to use those laws put in place by Nayru. Ganondorf tortured them to death trying to get their secrets, specifically the Song of Time needed to access the Sacred Realm via the Temple of Time. Instruments do have magic in them, because not every Hylian has magic. These songs are more like magic spells that sound like music, and when they are performed by a person or an object imbued with magic, their effects activate. In short, they are providing the power source to the spell so it can do its effect. This is what is so special about the Ocarina of Time, it specifically has time power in it, and Time Power is needed to activate temporal "spells" or "effects". Zelda is indeed the Sage of Time and has Time Power in her, as does the Royal Family, and thus she could activate such "Temporal Songs" on her own. This may be why she sends Link back in time not with The Song of Time, but by using Zelda's Lullaby.

    Fair and yeah sharp and flats dialogue is a great argument i even forgot about, but still i am not sure if the actual instruments have any powers. But sadly enough you cant open the door of time with the fairy ocarina due to how flags work in the game and the fact that you get the oot immediatly.

    The Ocarina of Time isn't special because it's the only way to do magic. It's special because it's the key to the door of time, and by extension the realm of the GODS THEMSELVES. I could show you a box full of house keys and it wouldn't mean much, but if I then told you that one of them opens YOUR front door you'd suddenly be interested. That all of the other keys are just as good at opening bottles or closing electrical circuits as your house key is would be irrelevant. And if the distinction were based exclusively on your biases then your house key would also be the most important and most powerful key in the box. Like, your video isn't wrong, it's just not right either.

    Now that we finally got rid of one of the biggest liars on the internet, everyone's scrambling to take up his place. You know how we know that the Ocarina has no power? Because of all these other unpowered instruments doing magic. No, my friend, that is the begging the question fallacy. And not the "this raises a question" way most people misuse it either, you're literally assuming the conclusion. Occam's razor says it's much simpler that all those magic artifacts _do_ have magic in them. Why wouldn't they? You're like that guy who wrote in to Archie Sonic comics to explain how Sonic wasn't actually running, no he was rotating his feet really fast to generate energy, and using that to hover an angstrom above ground and propel himself forward... somehow. At least _that_ guy preceded MatPat...
