There's a surprising amount of things this show does that modern legend of zelda skits also do. Like Link not cleaning his room, just wanting to kiss Zelda, or realy liking explosives. I don't know whether it's due to direct inspiration or it's just that the typical parody of player behaviour coincidentally looks really alike. But either way, it's hilarious! PS.: Especially when you hear Zelda say "You f*ck!" because it just sounds like it came from one of those skits.

Hey, this was my childhood! Loved this show! Sure it has it flaws, but still good, and you gotta give them props, they only had the first game to go off of, so they winged a lot of it. Kind of sad you didn't show a clip of Flowerblight Zelda XD now that you've watched The Legend of Zelda animated series, you got to watch Captain N, at least all the episode that feature Hyrule anyway

A lot of the enemies are from Zelda one and two and we’re never seen again outside of those games. Examples being the giant bat monsters with feet and the thing with the fox head. I’m too lazy to look up their proper names, but the bat thing is in Zelda one and the Foxhead thing is in Zelda two. And the Zora that kidnapped the princess is a dead ringer for Zelda one Zora and I think link to the past. The bracelet is a power bracelet from Zelda one and the whistle is a recorder from Zelda one and Zelda two.

26:26 "All wet" and similar "wet" variants ("Right as rain twice as wet") is a term not commonly used beyond the Eighties, and refers to a person who is often wrong/mistaken, and/or are "a drip, dopey". Either definition would work for what Zelda was talking about here. The thing to recall about the Legend of Zelda cartoon is that it's based on _The Legend of Zelda._ Not the NES Zelda's. Not the first three Zelda games, _The Legend of Zelda._ What was the story canon of the _first game?_ 'The Princess has been kidnapped by the evil wizard Ganon who possesses the Triforce of Power somehow, and only Link can save her after reuniting the 8-pieces of the Macguff...err...Triforce of Wisdom.' That's it. Link is really rad. Ganon is really bad. Zelda is the only one of the three with a spoken line. There is no Castle Hyrule. No Zora's Domain. No Lake Hylia (by name). There is a Death Mountain and Lost Woods, though! And...the...Lost Hills, which were never heard from again. And the items like the Bow, the Magic (not Master) Sword, the Whistle, etc. Oh, and each episode was roughly 15 minutes and made for young children by DiC entertainment, a company notorious for taking the concept of "low budget" to all new lows. And were _not_ meant to be watched back-to-back as they were originally aired only on Fridays, with Monday thru Thursday being devoted to episodic cartoons based on the US Super Mario Bros 2...but with "King Koopa" instead of Wart. Is the cartoon bad? Not really. The low budget doesn't help it at all, but for its era and what it had to work with it's "okay".

The one thing that always bothered me about this show is the Bi-Force, IE the two halves of the tri force. It's got Tri in the name, where are there only two parts to it. I know the games hadn't really canonized the three parts yet, but it just feels odd looking constantly mentioning the two tri-forces.

  • @saphcal

If this show was made today, there would be some serious calls for improvement. But for the 80's, this was considered to be just fine for younger viewers. Link harassing Zelda did need to be addressed tho, in my opinion. Nowadays we don't have kids TV shows as honestly and openly rude (but still funny). Its imperfections are what make it perfect.

I mean considering only the first NES game existed at the time, the show did a decent job of coming up with storylines and giving the characters a personality. Shows Link and Zelda riding horses years before OOT, shows the king years before Wind Waker, explains how Link holds so many items.

Fun fact you passed over in "Kiss and Tell:" There's a running gag throughout the episode where Link in his frog form will eat a bug and it makes his fairy companion scream. The payoff for this is that it happens one final time while infiltrating Ganon's lair, and Ganon immediately knows Link is there. To clarify: Ganon hears a woman screaming somewhere inside his evil underworld lair of unspeakable horrors, and his FIRST THOUGHT is that Link being present is the likeliest explanation. An assumption which he is correct in.
