Happy Birthday to Eddie Levert, longtime member and co-lead singer of the legendary O'Jays, born June 16th, 1942. On June 16, 2024 he celebrated his 82nd birthday. By any measure, the O'Jays are one of the most important Soul Music groups of all-time. Whether delivering funky dance music, romantic ballads, or thoughtful social commentary in song

You're right! I think all of these changes come from this cause: the internet, since it has caused a major division in families. In the sixties and seventies there were only 1 or 2 telephones in a family house. Today, in a house, the father, the mother, and each of their children all have their iPhones, to live individually instead of living as a family. And since the existence of social networks and KZread, children are no longer at the living room with their parents. In a way, it is catastrophic.

@@ronaldwilliams4954 that's fantastic that they have a following and wish them continued success, hopefully over time them and the music comes to be mainstream.
I CAME HERE AFTER WATCHING THIER LIVE PERFORMANCE 2 MONTHS AGO!! Wow!! time is a heck of a thing. i was about 6 0r 7 when this was a hit.... and years later.. the reflection of the years. i dont know how old they were here but I looked at them at 82 in the video performing this song and it just brought me to tears.
Thank God for recordings.... They provide an avenue to great memories. Music recorded in the 60's and 70's were the greatest ever!!! I still enjoy them today and always will. Thank you "KZread" for safekeeping such classics.
Everybody is on the same page in the audience and this is incredible. The guy in the audience with the green pants and the white looks to be a leather black jacket. It’s just off the charts and getting it.
Lets all go back when music was music.🎹🎸🎻🎺🎷👌
Love this song back in 72. My high school band director asked me could I deliver the percussion part. I said yep. The snare and the bass drum was tight, just had to work on the tenor drum part, once I put the three parts together I was the truth. Good memories. Rest Well Charles Scott!

Those types of high school band directors are missed. Many of them are products of HBCUS!
I’m 65 now and love all forms of music, rap, hip hop, rock. Those years of my teenage days 73 - 80, with soul, funk, rock, disco . The super groups & performers will never be equaled
This funky music makes me remember Soul Train, back in the day. I was young, in good health, danced ALL the time, watched ST on Saturday Mornings doing chores before I could do anything else, and the world was so different, mom & dad were alive and I was just a kid! SIGH

I hear ya, boy do I hear ya❤️
I'm gonna be honest: this is my first exposure to Soul and R&B and my 22nd birthday is in a week from now, where has this been my whole life? I am so taken back by the sound of this rhythm, I'll be binging it all I'm so happy.
I just adore the O'Jays. What an immense talent that have stood the test of time. They have brought so much joy to my life and millions more for decades .I just love you guys.
Man, I truly truly miss and get sad when I hear music like this because this was true music. They talked about real things and real problems. They also made beautiful songs to bring us together. I miss real groups like the O’Jays and so sad is there is no more real R&B a whole genre of music that spoke to our hearts family our loved ones and mostly our women they said the words we could not say to each other but we let that die where is the humanity going next we don’t know how to talk to each other. We talk to each other but you put on some R&B and they would all be better.🙏🏽🔥
What a classic. Pick better friends so they don't steal your girlfriend.
Now That's The Philly Sound
I love the Ojays and I love Soul Train for giving our groups a platform for their talent❤️
perhaps the best introduction in the history of popular music - and things only get better.
What an incredible song, what an incredible group. One of the best, with intense soul and amazing everything.
True magic!! I love the performers and the song and all the dancers are all in rhythm!! We will never hear this again with modern groups!
Backstabbers album was one of the best in the 70s I still listen to it now !
The Ojays put out truthful music.I love all of their music and miss the time period.
Let's all go back to the bestest music ever... 70's....bring back disco! Bloody excellent groovy tunes!

Back in the Day, my mom went to see the Spinners, Four Tops, and the O'Jays at a venue called Painters Mill Theater. Sadly it burned down in 1991. She couldn't stop talking about the shows she saw there! RIP MA I LOVE YOU 😢🥰
Power Raising Kanan brought me here🔥🔥
I like this song I listened it in the 3rd chapter of Power Kanan Rising season 2 .
The very next year the Ship Ahoy album was released. One of the best ever!

True greatness.Where have all the classy songwriters gone?...On the rare occasions we turn our ears over looking for future classics like this one all I hear coming out of the radio is insipid electro-junk which really inspires nobody
The very first release on PIR from the O'jays and followed by their crossover smash LOVE TRAIN. That's when MUSIC HAD A MESSAGE.

"Back Stabbers" was also a crossover smash as it reached #3 on the pop chart. It was a favorite of mine way back in 1972 (yes, I'm old). :) The follow-up was "992 Arguments" which had a similar vibe, but not the same impact on the charts. "Love Train" definitely got them back on a roll. Love your comment about "when music had a message". A tribute to the O'Jays #1 R&B single in 1976, "Message In Our Music" from the "Message In The Music" album.

@@shyman99 the title track says it all on the 1976 album MESSAGE IN THE MUSIC, which is another album my dad had on the O'jays! Love it!
This group was so smooth, one of the best ever.

I love all kinds of music styles. Rock, Soul, Mowtown, Jazz, Southern Rock, you name it. I wish there was more soul music like this being produced these days.
I just think this song is one of the smoothest jams in history! What they DO!
~~ I lived for Saturdays when I could watch Soul Train and practice my moves in from of the black & white t.v. set with aluminum foil on the antenna to get better reception. I'm 73 today and still watching Soul Train --Pick a decade and be true to it is my motto. Peace & love !
