The node view is your friend, Toonboom animation

Фильм және анимация

Network literacy is soooo important! I guess it's node view literacy now, but that doesn't sound as cool.
If you know how the node view works, you're going to animate faster, have fewer technical problems, and when you do have problems you can find ways to solve them!!
I cannot overstate how good the harmony node view is. It's the #1 reason I don't use other software. It makes character rigging way easier, and once you get in there, it'll make animating easier too.
Trust me. The node view is your friend.

I remember when I saw the Node view for the first time and said, no way I'm ever going to learn that, but if you take it from the basics like what is shown in this video anybody can build and organize their rig so it makes sense. I'm glad your videos have attention to detail a lot of tutorials leave out the colour connections of the nodes or don't explain why they have colours. This is a great beginner Node video! 5/5

Thanks this helped a lot! Im in the rigging department but I usually work with Animate. However, a lot of the Toon Boom guys are being transferred to another department and now me and the Animate team needs to start doing Toon Boom stuff!

Node view gives me nightmares. Hope after watching this video I won't have any more nightmares. EDIT: Yup got a lot easier. Can you like start from scratch and use different nodes from node library (particles) to show how to set them together and make sense of it. Like you did one a while back of that fracture node thingy.

YAY! Keep using it, I promise it does get easier and is really worth it! I always start with the examples for particles- usually the basic gravity, and add/ remove things to get it working the way I want. I'll definitely put the fracture thingy on my list. I haven't done that one yet :)

I'm scared but: LET'S DO THIS! note: I'm a young animator (graduated in 2019 at the academy in Florence) BUT my teachers barely explained to us the magical-node-view-world AND NOW I need to restart learning how to use in a good way my animation programs (Harmony and Animate, ofc) cuz in Italy we have a lot of lyl studios that use cut-out anim. and paperless, not just paperless... and yes, in the academy I just study paperless method. It's frustrating a lot, but you have the ability to calm down my mind and now I have a sort of "zen mindset" for start this new adventure eheh in the node view and rigghing world tnx

I think the thing that makes it intimidating is that it's so similar to the other 3D softwares that I went into 2D to AVOID. It's also extremely overwhelming and intimidating for somebody coming from Flash, where it's much more "what you see is what you get" via the library and timeline. I love watching your tutorials because you make it seem much more approachable, and it's interesting to see your workflow entirely outside the timeline. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the subpegs and why you would want to use them. I know you mentioned the perspective adjustment, but why wouldn't you just do that on a single controller peg? So, maybe if you can go into why you would want to use and rig /animate with subpegs it would be great. Keep up the great work!!! Thank you so much for these videos

The main advantage of a sub peg is you don't have to counter- animate things. For example, if you foreshortened the lower arm, you would also squish your hand, and then you need to re-stretch the hand. The more complex that gets, the more you end up with smooshy weirdness. If you're making your own rigs this type of thing is totally optional. This is just the type of thing you can expect if you're working with studio rigs. :)

Can you please tell how to search nodes in Node View like search the colour art etc in Node View with shortcut Key?

Ever since Shake, I've realized how powerful, simple, and elegant a node style visualization really is. I believe Harmony Premium is the only version that has node view unfortunately, and so I'm sort of forced to use that because I can't go back at this point. Random tangent, what are your thoughts on Open FX? Do you use any of those plug-ins or do you think all of that is best left post in something like After Effects? I'm considering Sapphire by BorisFX.

I really think keeping the node view exclusive to premium is a bad decision on their part. It's often affordable to new animators, or indie creators, and other software is starting to keep up with some of their features. Moho has some amazing master-controller looking things happening. So I would like to see them drop it down to at least the mid-level software- even if they keep all the fancy modules for pro. I was really happy to see a student rate, but that wont help indie creators. Open FX has only recently gotten on my radar. I'm starting to hear interest in it among some of my more technical -minded friends but I don't have any experience myself. I would love to hear more about it, and see more 3rd party interest in Harmony overall. :)

There are better resources for beginners in the software than my channel. I make things intentionally for intermediate-level people. Jesse J Jones has a couple of great "how to make a cartoon" videos that are much better. kzread.info Oli Putland has great videos and his book on patreon is THE thing for beginners who want to learn harmony. He's also super nice :D kzread.info/dron/TKoJPVdyWFfv389Ask86DQ.html And ZebridBrain is very active on making new videos with a lot that are beginner friendly kzread.info/dron/iWXb2o8mVRu1PXN8uB5dgg.html
