When you move into an apartment, the first thing you do is change the locks, save the original to put back on whenever you move out. That way nobody else has a key to your place, not even the maintenance guy. How did this weird kid acquire keys to other apartments, and where did he acquire a master key? That's something that ought to be investigated, in my opinion.

Even if you buy a previously owned home. You don't know who the people you bought from may have given keys to. From Maintenance People like the bug guy to crazy kids and uncles. Also change any locks on fences around the house for extra security

So this happened to me once in my twenties. The maintenance guy would come in while I was out. Eat food, use the toilet and leave the seat up, and left my TV on stuff I never watch like CMT. The office did nothing claiming he wasn't out there the day I said he was .. as if he couldn't have been. So I changed my locks. They tried to come in later to fix something and of course their key didn't work. I was told I had to change them back or give them a key and sent the portion of my lease that required it.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but the first thing I would have done is installed a recording surveillance system. Maybe this advice can help save someone else who has a creepy stalker killer.

Dropping Child exploitation charges is disgusting, if you’re willing to abuse a child you’re willing to kill. Letting the creep away with this allows all the other sick creeps to continue to abuse. I would implore Lauren’s family and the people of Georgia to get those charges reinstated and add a decade imprisonment for every image of an abused child that he stored on his computer.

It was a 'deal' for his confession and addmission of guilt. The addmision almost certainly guarantees he will never be freed, ever and subsequent appeals will be dismissed. The worst case scenario is the charges for exploitation could be weak, have limited evidence or loop holes.. so he may or not be convicted for a less serious crime and never provided a confession, also consider the family need for closure.

I understand that their interrogation was not textbook, but this guy wasn't textbook either. They did their job with the timely collection of proper evidence. The very fact that he pleaded guilty, explained how he killed her, and apologized to the family can NOT be ignored. His consistent appeals and behavior shows just how deadly he would be if he ever gets out. He got his fame and needs to continue to appeal to the courts to stay in the spotlight. What a freakn sicko. Keep him in jail and don't continue to bled the court systems in his behalf, taking valuable time, money, energy, and continuing heart ache from others waiting their turn to get justice.

I studied with Lauren at the American University in Bulgaria while she was there. She was a fantastic person - kind soul, loved to have fun, and an all-around uplifting person. She is missed!

This happened 5 mins down the road from me. I remember following this on the news. My buddies and i were drinking at my house and we were watching stephen do that interview. We all said the same thing. That guy did it!! Watching his demeanor change live on the air when they found her body. It was insane. Sat on that pink bench hundreds of times. Never knew it was in her honor R.I.P. Lauren.

She knew something was up. We must learn to trust our intuition.

What could she do?(?!) She had bought and used some door-blocking device, but he found a way around that...and no one she told, apparently, took her suspicions seriously. The apt. mgmt. should have been much more careful about master keys...and hiring practices. He could not have had good references, especially for a position with such access to apartments.

I watched the full interrogation of this guy. So freaking weird. It was hard to get through and it really makes you aware that there are super sick people out there.

The reporter blew up the fact that a body was recovered. His shock was his stomach falling to the floor.

Great coverage of a really gruesome story. The Scariest part-aside from the Sicko is the courts would even Consider letting this Thing run the streets Ever again!!

All the appeals show he is a psychopath. He's not safe to be released EVER. Believing he has some superior complex of everyone in the courts, another trait. On that alone, I'd add more years to his sentence. No remorse, only crying for himself. Stay in jail.

That news interview he did was disturbing. It gives me the creeps.

With the way he treated her and her body, how could any court not give him a real life sentence with NO chance of parole. We are now told that he will possibly never get out of prison but with his other offences alone he should have received many years incarcerated, and Lauren's murder should have made sure of no chance of parole. RIP Lauren.

I feel like they really honor the victims better than many other channels, never victim-blaming, and they don’t interject their personal opinions. They tell the story in an unbiased way while focusing on the victims and their families.

I very much hope the other men in his prison find out about this guy’s explicit pictures of children & give him a version of justice.

He should NEVER be released from prison. And I'm all for the "no body, no parole" that some places have. If they don't tell where the body (or all of the body parts) is, they have no chance at parole.

Even tho I've watched Lauren's case from different channels; it's worthwhile to watch a respected channel. And I was not disappointed. You've brought so many different perspectives, which gave me a better understanding of this case. Thank you !

One of the creepiest cases in history. A case that EVERY fan of TC should know and have seen. There are many crazy things that happened in this case. Scary. Sad. Heartbreaking and creepy.

He was on the maintenance staff at an earlier time and either kept a key or had access to the master key.

I love how the detective calls him a loser in pretty much every way possible to give him a reason why, lol 😂

This is the most comprehensive and victim-centering presentation of this case I’ve watched ❤ great job!

This case is infamous but did I still watch the Truly Criminal coverage? Damn right I did! Really nice to hear more about Lauren and her family who are so often forgotten about. "I'yean" .... the Stayvan McDaniel interview is notorious. What a strange individual.

I’m so glad someone finally focused more on Lauren. I feel like she’s barely talked about, and Stephen McDaniel gets all the coverage. She’s the victim. So many other channels forget that in favor of his creepy ass interrogation.

Strange'is such a good way to describe him. He's beyond 'weird' and beyond being simply a 'creepo'. Strange and very disconcerting - like a true life vampire.

As soon as his face and goofy hair popped up on my screen I said “oh, this effing guy!” This case has been covered by many true crime channels and I watch it every time because the way he sits still like that and doesn’t even adjust his position or scratch his face! I was in boot camp and and the amount of discipline it takes to stay still that long is insane

It's a relief every time you upload a video. I've found that most true crime channels these days are just going on autopilot with their content and are getting lazy with their titles (just search "when a killer realizes...etc etc" and you'll get a sense of what I mean) but you do a good job humanizing the victims and sticking to what makes you unique. Thanks.

That is so sad, the fact Lauren was really the only girl who was really nice to him even tho she wasn't interested in him "like that" she still tried to be his friend & what he did to her is inhumane. I pray her family finds peace & he lives every single day in prison being haunted. If it wasn't for the victim being so against the death penalty, he's really lucky they respected that, or he definitely should have been sentenced to death. The gruesome details of what he did to her. Evil.

Lauren's parents should have just asked the judge to give him the death penalty. He don't deserve to breathe the same air he took away from Lauren. What the hell is wrong what these creepy men? Murdering innocent people is not the answer. And then he has child porn on his laptop. What a POS this slime bucket is. Hope someone puts hands on him in prison.That would be REAL justice.

How do his relatives explain away all of the images of extreme child abuse on his computer? I suppose the police planted all of that too? Disgusting that they’re aggravating Lauren’s family members by continuing with their ridiculous denial of his guilt. The McDaniel family is disgusting all round.

"No good deed goes unpunished." This woman was probably the first to ever in his life acknowledge him, and he became obsessed. It is so scary that being friendly towards someone can lead to your death. This world is screwed.

Your channel is the only true crime one I will watch. Your soothing voice, combined with zero theatrics to get "shock value" just facts with empathy for the victims in cases.

Two things -- 1. Hearing the British pronunciation of Butterbean is so cute in comparison to how a Georgian would say it (BUTT-ah Bean vs Buhdderbean) and 2. the Georgia accents on the interrogating officers are thicker than the humidity down here and it somehow makes this frustrating interview actually entertaining

His reaction when the reporter meantions the torso found in the dumpster is everything. Disgusting waste of oxygen!

I am so sorry for Lauren, her life was so tragically and brutally cut short. It is unfathomable that she was killed by someone she was so kind to, yet the fact that she is not the only woman to experience this is so heartbreaking. So refreshing to see a video about this case where you speak so much about Lauren, who she was and what her family have done in her memory- rather than a video all about Steven and his interrogation tape. She deserves to be spoken about in this way, who she was to those who knew her and how she made people feel should take centre stage of her memory not what happened to her at the end. I think about this case from time to time and it breaks my heart to think of what could and would have been. She would have been so successful in her field that much is clear, she had a very bright future ahead of her. I hope her family are doing ok- well, as ok as they can. Excellent job on the video guys, as always.

Sicko. He was fascinated with her because he was lonely and never had anyone treat him well or friendly. I hope he rots in jail forever.

The detective told him, "You're never gonna get a girlfriend." He's somebody's girlfriend in prison now.

This is so sad, what a shameful waste of a young woman with so much to offer the world. The perpetrator should never be released, what a depraved animal. Truly Criminal is by far the best true crime channel on KZread.
