Vanos on the M50/M52 engine is actually pretty easy to maintain. Try going at the Vanos in the M54 or N52 engine, that's a hassle.

I've been binge-watching the Money Pit for the first time. I'm so glad that you're going with a Rally Car because that's exactly what I would like to do, and I'm excited to see how this goes.

I was stoked to see it was an E36. There were quite a few entered in my local (Barbados) rally when I was a kid, happy core memories unlocked!

This brings back so many memories of my e36 m3 I had. Cosmos black with a ghost racing flag on the driver front fender under the clear coat. I used to use a Bobby pin to touch circuits under the hood to reset the oil life. It was an auto so I learned a trick for a down shift, if you click the button under your gas pedal with your foot then stomp on it you’ll have a good time when it drops a gear or too 😂😂😂 loved that car.

Watching a little 328 frolicking in the desert sun is a pleasure to behold. Cant wait to see this thing decked out!

It’s crazy! I Bought a 1998 automatic 328i 2 days before this video came out. excited for the rest of the series to come out.

I am so excited to watch this e36 build. I love moneypit Miata but I am not really a race guy, much more rally and offroad oriented and also happen to be a huge BMW fan. Rally BMWs are especially cool and i cant wait to see where this car goes.

Vanos is ok if you check it before and with a good oil Cooling system is greatly improve without ac condenser and a 70c thermostat and of course good pump (whit less than 300k Mile and a ton of silicone gasket), radiator (not clogged)

I have had 2 e36s and 2 e46s. I have never had to fix vanos on any of them. The one i drive now has 265k and its great. My wife has a 530i with 297k and no vanos issues.

Love the money pit, watched every miata episode, even buying my own for track days based on your project, I wish you luck with the E36, but though a running total of the cost of the project might be useful, for anyone who becomes equally inspired from the new series, keep up the good work, and I'll keep on watching from here over the pond

I didnt even know there was a check engine light.. Mine must be burnt out xD Got an airbag and brake pad light on all the time, and my OBC says "CHECK COOLANT LEVEL" for like 30 seconds everytime I turn it on or off. It's fine btw, you don't have to keep telling me, car.

For manual mode. Start in first with the drive stick all the way down the gear box. Move up one for a higher gear and so on.

Was thinking of it being a Galant VR-4. Still plenty here in Asia, you just need to be lucky that it's still a 4G63 stock and not on a 4G92 Engine Swap or not on a VR-6 engine swap Incase you're curious what's with the 4G92 swap is that the engine is a low rev, high performance SOHC/DOHC engine, which are pretty common with regular Lancers built prior 1996. They really are powerful but not as powerful as the 4G63

Honestly dude, the best thing you can do is to buy a socket set that is metric. You are gonna need a breaker bar and some wrenches. Sockets ranging from about 6mm to 24 is what you will use the most. And the wrenches are only really used for tight spaces and when you need to tighten a bolt with a nut. Just make sure the wrenches have a bend in em. Flat wrenches suck.

I would LOVE to see a sequential transmission thrown in this 😎

@@knation92 what do you still have to do? My main concern is throw out bearing is bad so it’s making the clutch slip so I’m dropping the trans and doing that plus the clutch itself, rear main seal and a fluid flush while I’m there. Problem is header bolts are rusted up good so I can’t take the exhaust off which also needs a section replaced cause of a rust hole. Other than that and some RTAB it’ll be fine. It’s been on hold though because of med school exams but come fall it should be up and running.

Hi! Interesting to see an E36 build in USA. Here in Latvia and Eastern Europe they by far are the most popular cars that are being built for racing. All you need to get it to become competitive are some shocks, some body strengthening parts (they tend to crack rear subframe, rear shock towers and front shock towers), LSD (large housing) and poli bushing kit and you are set. I would like to see you build a bored out M50 engine block with 2.8 internals and oversize pistons for maximum coolness

I knew it was an E36, and I said to myself “Ah, they’ll make a drift build. Well I want an E36 to turn into an off-roader gambler style rig, I’ll watch so I can figure out how to take it apart” and then you mad lads go and turn it into a rally rig. You, Zach, now have my full attention.

Well, E36s have very successfully been turned into rally cars. It's a tried-and-true conversion, you can turn an E36 into pretty much anything

i’m so excited for this. rally is god tier automotive sport
