Playing my own Socialist Ukraine was definitely my wildest campaign in a while. Having to singlehandedly defend against the brunt of the Russian attack while simultaneously defending the entire length of your border against the Reichspakt, and of course the Third Internationale was totally incompetent and did nothing to relieve pressure. My first year was spent desperately defending my border as I lost more and more ground but making the enemy bleed for each inch of land while growing the army. Then the gruelling push across the Russian steppe begins. The fun part is that when you singlehandedly capitulate Russia by taking Petrograd from the rear, it doesn't make the fighting less desperate, because now you have to clean up the Internationale's mess too! It's similar to Nationalist Poland in a lot of ways although being in the middle of the Reichspakt gives Poland a lot of options to ruin Germany's day. My most successful strategy was building a tank army - you can successfully hold against the Austrians and eastern europeans with 24 infantry while an army of tanks and motorised can take Hamburg before the Germans react properly.

Despite having Kiev and Rus in the name, I would argue it was neither as there weren't any concrete "Russians" nor "Ukrainians" as we know them today. Moreso a bunch of slavic tribes who happen to share common culture with their closest neighbouring tribes. They were too diverse to easily categorize as large ethnic groups. Russia and Ukraine are descendants to Kievian Rus, yes, but not the other way around. Russia or Ukraine trying to claim Kievian Rus as Russian or Ukrainian is basically the same energy as Romaboos trying to argue their roman-descendant country represents the Roman empire. Just accept it as it's own thing and stop gurgling on that putin/zelensky pp
