The new space race: Is Europe lagging behind? • FRANCE 24 English

"Increasing Europe’s strategic autonomy" was one of the key themes at a recent conference in Paris, bringing together the European Space Agency’s 22 member countries. But for all the talk of being a leader in space, is Europe ready to walk the walk? Our guests discuss Europe's options for strengthening its launch capabilities, its plans for a space-based secure communication system and even the possibility of a European space law.

Europe has never been a major player in the space race. I don't see how it will start being one now.

@he is right! I have always known ESA for helping NASA in NASA's missions. Some of my friends calls ESA sidekick of NASA, no one of us hate Europe or ESA but yeah the truth is truth. Europe hasn't even developed capabilities of sending humans to space, have not landed on moon, haven't landed on mars. I am saying all this bcoz with such a huge budget these all achievements are expected.

With deindustrialization as well as high energy price for years to come in Europe, I hope their Space Race goes well... 😕

Europe should not wait and just watch America compete with other superpowers such as China or Russia, europe should become a superpower by itself and compete with all other superpowers including America not only in the space race but in technology, economic and political race. we must become the united states of Europe.!!!

Space regulation… that just shows the scope of European ambitions in space. The goal is not to actually develop independent launch systems or competing programs. When every other space fairing nation is planing massive objectives like colonizing other celestial bodies, Europe is planing on regulating space junk…. Classic

Europe can not afford to meet the energy crisis, or cost of living challenges, or service our rising debt, let alone afford to be apart of the space race

Of course Europe can pay it's the richest place on Earth. The price increase will crush the poor worthless countries.

Interesting focus on promoting the general welfare of the citizens on FRANCE24, same program on American media such as Murdoch owned Fox would focus on letting private interests reap the profits of space development without rules and regulations.

Europe is at the mercy of the Mediterraneans, the direction the European union takes will be the choice of the Arab nations, which is ironic because theyre not on the continent, didn't fight the cold war nor WW2, and neither did they develop any of 1960's tech. That's what happens when oil and money are glorified. The nuns got played.
