1:08 "Reduced" to four holidays a year! I wish! I haven't been away, either home or abroad, since 2005. However, I will make any financial sacrifice to keep my Ducati Monster on the road. Just taking it out for random days in spring/summer is enough to recharge my batteries as much as any holiday would. I guess it's a case of how you prioritise your finances. The Ducati will never be sold!

Mate, you could easily & cheaply spend a few days riding in Ireland or France, just to spice up your riding.

We have always camped, had one holiday a year and don't go to the pub etc. I do have little trips into the mountains...with avtent. When we married 25 years ago we were not exactly comfortable and we pulled the belt in and kept it in. I recently sold the car. I didnt need it. I have a bike with heated grips. I do my own work, we have no MOT in Ireland and my insurance is about 30 quid a month. Lying on a beach for two weeks would kill me. My holiday this year was a week in Lithuania with the in-laws including a 3 day spa in Kedainai (ask Monika).

Your original pronunciations for Porsche and Himalayan were correct - for use in the UK. These are how these words have been pronounced here for over 60 years and no need to change to speak in the correct language/dialect. Otherwise we will need to say: FolksVaaagen, BayEmVay, Laancha for example.

Wrong. All you’re doing is reinforcing the false assumptions that lazy and incorrect British pronunciations are correct. No wonder all of our neighbours and most countries around the world consider British people to be ignorant. The Germans call us Inselaffen - Island Monkeys! Only little englanders think the way you do. Where do you go on holidays? Spain? The simple facts are that we live in a big wide world with many languages and diverse cultures. The very least respect we can demonstrate for the rest of the world (now that we are no longer a colonial power), is to at least attempt to pretend we’re not ignorant. By all means don’t bother learning French, Spanish, German, Italian or even how to pronounce Welsh place names (you never had any intentions of doing so anyway), but you could at least pretend to KNOW that you sound uneducated and absurd when you don’t know that the ‘e’ sound in Germanic and Nordic languages is pronounced ‘a’. And if you’re incapable of making the obvious connection between the universal pronunciation of PIZZA (an extremely commonly used word in Britain) with MOTO GUZZI, then you probably need a vat of petroleum jelly to help extract your cranium from up there. 🙄

It's never too late to learn correct pronunciation. We always found it funny when foreigners call himalaya mountains as him lya . Its been called for centuries as Himalaya

Just came back from a 1000km solo trip in Morocco, from Marrakech to desert and back on a 2023 RE Himalayan. Great bike and its making me reconsider my 1200cc Triumph, such a big engine no longer makes sense. On a different note, I am Italian and your pronunciation of Moto Guzzi is spot on!

Who would ever have thought around 4 years ago that Royal Enfield would be about to swallow the market with well engineered, simple, honest, affordable motorcycles?! The Himalayan's main rivals? 🤔... Kawasaki's venerable KLX650, springs to mind immediately so this will be interesting. Their upcoming Scrambler 650 looks superb gauging by the spy shots 🧐

Last thing I heard was that lower capacity bikes were to be abolished first in the push for all electric, etc. I really can't see the rationale behind that as surely lower capacity bikes are way more fuel efficient. It's like the powers that be simply don't want people to be mobile, and let's face it there's not many things cheaper to run than a small bike.

I don’t generally buy into conspiracy theories but this decision is either Government incompetence (quite possible with this current mob) or there is a motive to kill of a new generation of motorcyclists and thereby see the number of motorcyclists decline long term. A larger sized bike is generally producing in the range of 85-130g of co2. A small Honda 125 four stroke CB125F is 34g/km! Illogical at best. And the motorcycle industry seems capable of reducing their future customer base even without regulatory help. The day I went to the NEC bike show you could count the number of younger enthusiasts almost on one hand.

Himalaya is a Sanskrit word, which can be dissected into 2 words. "Him" which means ice or snow and "alaya" means home or house. Now, unless you are a native speaker, it's ok. It's just that when you are sorrounded by natives, just be watchful of it!😅

*I am very amazed at how eager Brits are to get into Chinese bikes.* I get the willies just thinking about riding a Lex Moto or a Mash knowing it's going to break down on me, if not completely disassemble itself mid-flight. I mean, Royal Enfield is close in price and spare parts are readily available from the world's largest democracy.

Yeah I agree. People like to talk shit about Royal Enfield quality etc (most of which is untrue about their current bikes) but at the end of the day all these companies like Mash are back yard ventures assembling bikes from a variety of parts made by a load of unknown manufacturers. Royal Enfield are a huge company manufacturing their own parts to work together properly, extensively testing, and with a sales/support network all around the world. 122 years of continuously making bikes holds weight.

There‘s 2 choices when buying a motorcycle mega Km‘s away; 1) incorporate the purchase with a holiday nearby or 2) use a forwarding company to deliver (my choice!) to your door. Takes a couple of weeks for roughly €350,- depending on quality service (or not!) Good luck 😉

@@maskedavenger2578 It is a sanskrit word. Hima = snow/mist. aalaya = abode. When you combine the two words, the double aa takes over the ending of the first word in the conjugation. So Hima + aalaya = Himaalaya. It is not an English word. Himaleyan means nothing actually. Say it as you wish

You can add on 1500.00 to 2 k on top of the asking price on U.S. bikes. Your best finance is through a credit union here. Then the insurance is another matter.

Hi Freddie just been round South East Asia on my Himalayan 2023 for the last year , Planning on returning next year for longer and was looking forward to getting another new Himalayan but won’t be after seeing this 2024 model They have taken the classic Steve McQueen look out of the bike and made it look like a cheap Japanese alternative bike , the roughness has gone , the dash is awful , the colours aren’t that good , if I bought one I would have to change my whole motorcycle wardrobe to suit it

About the added weight- By Indian Standards- The bike comes with saree guard- approx 4-5 kgs And if you add other chunks like the metal protection that goes around the engine- sump guards, over the tank, rear luggage rest, side luggage mounting points- give or take another 12-15 kgs for all of it together The mirror frame is again metal and so is the entire tank- fuel lines (except for the connecting hose), catalytic converter adds to the weight Other brands don't provide any of these as standard accessories

Keep saying himalayan as in the mountain. Remember Michael Schumacher . The German pronunciation is sho ma har, the English version per Murray Walker was Shoe Makker.

Hi Freddie. Love your channel and your relaxed approach! A little feedback about Mash motorcycles, I own a Mash 400 scrambler which I love. I am 5'6 and was looking for a classic looking trail bike. I checked out the RE Himalayan but thought it too heavy at 200kg so I bought the Mash which weighs 160kg. This bike is great fun and easy to maintain and it's been very reliable for me. Ideal for country lanes and light off road stuff, it will run all day cos its a Honda copy engine. At £2500 for a 2018 model the price was lower than a used RE and the bike looks great. Admittedly, it suffers in winter but what bike doesn't! If you're going to do a test on the Mash ask for the 400 scrambler, pretty sure you'll like it. Keep up the good work.

I love the idea of budget motorcycling, even though that's not what I'm currently doing lol. Sold my soul to get my new Low Rider ST the other month, not exactly a good budget option. It's the bike I really wanted though, and as a daily rider I figured I can justify buying such an expensive bike. Plan on getting a second bike as a backup/ rainy day rider, and that'll be my budget bike. That new Triumph Scrambler 400 is high on my list, but the new RE Himalayan looks great

Freddie I just bought a Brand new NC750x for 7k ish, it’s not mentioned much but is an awesome bike and bulletproof, I know someone with 185.000 miles on one and 90 miles per gallon love it .

Hi John. I have previously owned a Honda NC750X-DCT and I agree totally with your comment. I regularly got 100mpg out of mine and it was the most practical machine I have ever owned on two wheels. The only advantages I can see of the RE are the very attractive shape and the slightly cheaper price. I am currently considering another bike and am having difficulty choosing between these two different yet incredibly appealing machines: NC750X-DCT or a RE Classic 350

I test rode both the 650 and 1050 Stroms and couldn't gel with either. The 1050 in particular ran out of power just as I was expecting it to "go go go".@@volt8684

The BMW GS for the masses,great looking bike RE are definitely onto a winner with this bike. Agree about the finance,the reason I bought my 1250 Bandit in 2016 was because of the 0% apr,still got it now coming up to 29K and still going well,fingers crossed MOT next month.

Hi Fred I bought a 1 yr old vstrom 650 in March with 2000k. Dealer offered him £5500 after one years ownership. I paid £5995. Immaculate and perfect bike for me. Doesn’t have RE or classic sounds but still lovely v twin. 70 mpg effortless torque cruise at ###, pull from 30 mph in sixth. Extremely reliable, great dealer back up and extras. It wasn’t a bike I was interested in but had a test ride due to other reviews. Marvellous bike with 24 yrs of refinement.

Hi. You might consider a pre-loved Honda Fury. Same price as a Himalayan but for sure more fun to ride, bullet proof for everyday use, and very economical. I have seven years of trouble free fun, and 60,000km, on mine and it just keeps on giving.

Inflation means cash loses a lot of value very quickly. Saving up doesn't really work. If you look at the price of a motorcycle and then look at the price 3 years later. Now you have to pay that price and you haven't even had a bike all that time wile Saving. In 2014 a mt-09 was £6,999 now a mt-07 is over £7.5k the system has been designed so people don't have £10-20k in cash but they can afford £191 a month.

If you really need to buy it straight away get a bank loan you will save money on the finance I buy my bikes cash I usually keep them for about 5_6 years so for me when I pick up my new bike I start saving for my next one that way when I want to buy my next one I already have the cash in place my last bike I had for years did just over 50,000 miles

RE are doing really well and I am hoping to pick up a secondhand Himalayan in India myself! But Harley has had brisk sales in India selling some 25k units of their new 440 bike made in India! To the effect that a lot of their team is now based in India looking at what to do next! Exciting times in the mid-capacity segment!

I toured sub-equatorial Africa in the late '70s on a Yamaha 250. I now own a 1982 Honda 500 single, rebuilt in 1996 and again in 2012. It is still going strong in 2023 and I guarantee that the accumulative cost from purchase to today will be far less than any of the motorcycles you mention, I have just as much or more fun on and off road fun than any modern motorcycle you mention. I still ride it almost every day, simple is best. My car is a 1970 MGB Roadster.

Hi Freddie, great episode as usual! Just a bit of advice for the short person considering the transalp; the seat height may be 750mm but its quite slim so if your inseam is more than 27" it should be manageable. I can cover the rear brake and flat foot the bike on the left side with a 27" inseam so dont necessarily rule it out. So many youtubers focus on height, I'm 5'10" but its the leg length thats the important factor.

@@tuesdayatdobbs you're welcome Freddie, I hope that guy reads it and it helps him. I have found the best thing is to sit on the bikes before making a decision. I'm currently favouring the KTM 1090 S Adventure with a 250mm seat height and going to lower it by 30mm which is easily done by hyper pro spring or metisse collar. The 1290 has the same seat height but is much wider so I can't reach the ground and the 1190 is the same but only 10mm higher, making the 1090s the Goldilocks option for me.

I'm loving my 350 classic, but the new Himalayan is looking like a great bike and very tempting indeed, it's an evolution of the time proven 411 Himalayan, go for it Freddie ,its a purpose built bike not an unproven attempt to get into the 400 cc market like the Triumphs.

Royal Enfield had tons of quality issues in 2017 including frames breaking. On the Himalayans so why do think Triumph would have more trouble building a watercooled engine than Royal Enfield ?

@@flatcapcaferacer 2017 was six years ago , and I didn't say Triumph would have trouble building a water cooled engine, which they haven't built anyway,..I just said it was an unproven bike..

I do believe that financing is something that not all brands put in the perspective that Triumph USA seems to do in this example. Here in the Netherlands they do not have those kind of deals. Most motorcycle financing is along the lines of 8%-9%. Until you look at BMW that is offering it at 3,99%. Which is also a reason why we see lots of GS motorcycles on the road here, especially with business owners. You can do financial lease at a 33/33/33 deal where you pay 33% up front, finance 33% at 3,99% and then do a last 33% payment to purchase the bike. That last part obviously never really happens as you financed the ownership in the parts that you have paid and then you trade up for a newer model. Clever thinking.

Harley used to sell 175 and 250 cc bikes back in the mid '70s. They were made by Aermacchi of Italy, branded as Harleys and shipped to the US. They didn't do well and Harley dropped the line. I checked out the 250 SS before i bought my Yamaha RD400C.

Freddie, About the mash, they are quite popular here in Belgium / France. The bike is a copy of a japanese bike but with worse parts. -Bending shifting forks in the gearbox -Broken/loose spokes on the wheels -Bad wiring connectors giving lot's trouble when they get wet. -Rust I rather would buy a Hunter / classic 350 than any mash motorcycle

I just checked on bikesales in Australia. There is a 2004 Thunderbird Sport for sale at $16000. I think stg3200 would be a steal....

Dear Freddie, Please don’t let anyone believe there is such a thing as no interest on a loan. Someone has to pay the bank back. The finance cost will be in the deal m somewhere. I’m afraid this is just counting, which I know about as I’m in the business. Rates have risen, and are expected to remain higher for longer (particularly in the UK & US). Rule of thumb, pay down debt when rates are high (now) and borrow when rates are low (last 15 years - party’s now over). Look how finance costs have affected Porsche. GT3 RS’s losing £20k per month, and those holding out for their price on sale for 6 months or more.

Hmm Himalayan is heavier than a multistrada - 189Kg vs 196 Kg according to MCN although the RE is probably full of fuel where the M/strada is likely empty ? Very different weight balance to the old one according to Nathanpostman - the 411 keeps it’s weight low, the 452 is much higher centre of gravity. You could buy the Fantic Rally for a similar price, same power, almost 50Kg lighter. For those who don’t venture far off road, the Triumph looks the better buy. For those who want to do a lot of off road and are in the novice category, the 411 is likely more manageable. For experts, they are going to be buying KTM, Beta, or Honda.

Your point about finance is totally valid but that Kawasaki page was from 2019, think you missed the boat there 😂😉

Freddy watching all the Royal Enfield interviews from Royal Enfield and while they primarily called it the Indian way of him-mall-yin they did in fact use the western English occasionally as well! I tend to call Spain, España as I lived their 4 years. Even like trying the British version of Jaguar too! But if they say it both ways I think you’ll be OK, think the RE care most that your calling it!

I had a GSX 750. Great bike (the one I wish I hadn't sold) with decent handling and enough power for a bit of fun. 👍

Or a Honda. Even an older Beema. I bought a R1200GS 2008 with 75000 miles & filull BMW luggage on it. I bet it's still going trouble free and worth more money than your Hymalayan at any point down the line. And 10 times the bike all day every day. Plus your GF will be able to sit pillion for hours without discomfort. Of course it will be a bit boring for the channel, no drama and wondering will he make it home or not?

The word "Himalaya" (for the mountains as well as for the bike) in hindi is made by joining 2 words: "Him" meaning snow and "alaya" (pronounced as Aalay, with emphasis on first "A" and not on 2nd "a"), and it means abode. So combining Him+Alaya becomes Himalaya meaning: Abode of snow. Thus to correctly pronounce it the stress is on first "aa" sound after "him". To ease up with the correct pronunciation: try pronouncing "Him-aalay" Fellow Indian/language nerds... please do correct if I'm wrong or missing something. Cheers :)

I really appreciate you making the effort to say himaaley-yun. The mountain range in most Indian/South Asian languages, is pronounced himaaley-yah. It's not a biggie, since it's now also a word integrated into English, but it's nice to hear nevertheless.

look also at the insurance rates on the different bikes...have been looking at the Himalayan myself as a second bike to my 2014 Bonnie since its the only bike of its type i get put both feet on the ground and at 66 years old its weight is very manageable...lol..

It may well turn out to be a brilliant bike in time.I can't see how anyone can assume it to be good until it's proven it's self in time .royal enfield are like any other manufacturer .there good at playing their customers.you've only got to look at the Himalayan 411 .it doesn't come with a Tripper anymore that I'm aware of .reason RE. Says it's because the shortage of chips .doesn't seem to effect the production of the new model tho.also if the new navigation is using the RE app will it lag and play up like it does on my Himalayan at present.

I dropped a GSX750 on my knee 20 years ago. It was Fraser's of Gloucester's loan bike. They were very understanding, but the knee is still a bit wonky. Oh yeah, did you notice that the Kawasaki 0% finance offer was from 2019?

£44 insurance £29.65 for the year probably 90mpg is possible. If you get the right tyres they will last forever almost. Biggest cost is road tax in the UK £111 a year now and will go up again in April. Was £82 in 2014 I thought that was bad enough.

Anyone who has a couple of grand can find a beautiful ride. No need to buy new or use finance.

Absolutely and 5800 for a new Himalayan gives you a plethora of used marques not that old and imo far better engineered. I have tried RE but just not for me. I watched a vlog the other day where they stripped an interceptor, bonneville and guzzi 850. The end result was they thought he RE was not in the league of the other two in engineering terms. And to my surprise they said the guzzi was the most superior. RE are cheap for a reason, depends what you want a bike for.

Triumph has the 400 scrambler coming out from what I've heard. It's also built in India

please test ride it i dont think . I am considering buying it after you release a vedio or after the first batch . India is a country of one bike garages so Ill have to use it as a commuter too ...... people dont use cars here that much due to the intendity of traffic in big cities

I dunno...40 odd horsepower is still a bit wheezy. It would have to be a very light bike (my old RD400C weighed 364lbs.).

This for you to understand the meaning of Himalaya. Hima = Snow and Alaya (pronounced Aalaya) = House. Put together Himalaya (pronounced as Himaalya). I hope this helps

Mash, I’m a retired motorcycle mechanic and a 1 year old Mash 125 has literally destroyed its self, dealers didn’t want anything to do with it, we had to weld the frame, broken wires…. the list goes on, awful awful motorcycles

Thanks for this great comment. When I worked at a local college a student donated his 1 yr old chinese 125 ( cant remember name) as he was so fed up with it. As a project we stripped a 17 yr old yamaha ybr125 against the Chinese bike and the metals were passed to the welders to look at the metals. The Chinese bike was literally chocolate. ( was 13 yrs ago) the yamaha though poorly corroded was mechanically fine at 50k. Of particular note we could stretch the chain on the chinese bike in a vice and bar. Bike was nice looking but wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. The cam chain and tensioner were something that had to be believed. Soft cheap metal

Never get finance from the dealer/manufacturer. It is so much cheaper and better when You borrow money from the bank. No limitation on mileage you own the bike out right from the moment you buy it and if you wish to sell the bike early you can. And you can and just pay the lone off. No extra faff. Ps if you want a sweet cheap do it all bike Moto Guzzi v7 750. Bit fuel tank shaft drive superb looks very nice ride. And if You want a Vstrom 650

What are your thoughts on modern days Jawa? Here in India, we have Jawa42 (not the bobber) and I am honestly tempted to buy that, classic look that is not RE (will not prefer RE until their offering really pushes me to go for it).

ok you probably wont see this but my thoughts , why was it not smoking if the rings are gone ? always starts on the button ! so lack of compression ?? my guess's are ... starter solenoid stuck out so starts on key because not returning to start position for button start , hence when started continues spinning so flats battery ,, you also have Air Injection on it so if water in air box it will push that into the engine via the AI pipes making it run rough and causing o2 sensors to confuse the ecu , or confuse the Mechanic in thinking its getting gasses from the bottom end !! new starter air filter and a good clean out of air box ai pipes or get rid of AI altogether and she'll live !! just my thoughts ...ps if you sell it off in parts il buy the engine !!
