The new 2020 Porsche 911 (992-series) Targa 4S, as is tradition, is the most stylish, the softest set up, and the heaviest of the 911 range. By mating a Cabriolet chassis, with all its reinforcements, and a power folding retractable hardtop with a stunning wraparound rear window, they have created a vehicle that, as tested, weighs 3,770 lbs. That's not to say it doesn't drive very well; it drives fantastic. It's just not as good as the convertible, which you probably don't want to be seen in. But maaaaaan is it pretty!

@@Chard81 depends on where you are. usually takes more time to find a road, but they have all kinds of nice roads. and because many roads lead to nowhere you can find a road without traffic if you go looking, I think it might be more difficult to find a road with decent tarmac that isn't constantly used in europe. all the nice roads I found in my area are seriously busy during daytime and at night it's not that clever to go fast on them because they all go through forests and you don't want to ruin your car running into a deer or a wild boar. that's why the canyons and other driving roads in the US faszinate me. people go up to the canyons at night and turn it into a racetrack just like they (used to) do in japan, we don't really have that here, we used to streetrace at night until the cops showed up with 500hp unmarked police cars. now we take it to the track and less busy areas with worse roads I guess.

The styling looks 10x better than the humpback whale of the 911 convertible. I'd rather go for a Boxster 718 GTS 4.0 if I was going full convertible.

The rear humpback cut line of the Targa and the vert are similar if not totally the same which I cannot unsee. The 356 did open tops much better than the 911 probably because it had much smaller engines and positioned farther from the rear axle. For modern open-top Porsches any 6-cyl Boxster would be preferable.

You are talking so much of fucking bullshit! "... humbback whale of the 911 convertible"... WTF??? The truth is, that the 911 Cabriolet roof just looks and feels amazing! The design fits almost perfect to the classic 911 line! If you watch closely, there isn't any other convertible roof out there for luxury convertibles, which has such quality of design and material than the 911 Cabriolet roof! A perfectly made cloth roof with a perfect design! "Flächenspriegelverdeck"... That's the German name for the 911 Cabriolet roof. I think it possibly makes more sense if you get the Heritage Design Edition with the 7-speed manual transmission.
Cool glass, great colour, and just a NICE car. There's a great argument for the Targa on the road, as the weight difference isn't much of a negative like it would be on the track. Properly enjoyable car, always been the case with the Targas.

Besides, it is not possible to exceed the limits of the targa on public roads in a responsible manner. So, no one will actually feel the difference in weight. Also, the looks of the targa alone, is enough to forego the slight weight penalty in my opinion. The 992 targa is the best looking 911 ever made, in my opinion. Looks amazing both roof up and down

Yeah man you are right. I dont know where you live, but in europe we have a lot of narrow roads with oncoming traffic. So even if the car could corner faster than the old ones, you cant use it because its too wide. Also the with the power. Its a lot more fun to drive a na 300hp porsche and rev it out and still go really fast, as it is to use torque in the new ones a let of after 2 seconds because your so far over the speedlimit.

Or, just get a Cabrio 4S manual ;-) Boom!

targas are cool but so damn heavy and too damn expensive... base 911 for 100k call it aday
Why dont people go to Germany to buy this car, you can buy it for a fraction of the price as they are made there.
I really don't feel like the new cars are that cool anymore. All companies widen their cars so they handle better on the track, but no one tracks them and especially in europe wider sports cars are not that cool with the narrow roads. They give you a lot of power with turbos but you can never rev it out and always rely on torque which is way less fun in a sports car, but if you do rev these new 450-600hp cars out you go way to fast if someone comes the other way. And sound gets worse with every new iteration because of laws and turbos. But as you said, as a "daily" it might be ok. Not so much for having fun while driving.
So it's 2 tons even with the current driver...🤪
I really don’t like convertibles, they ALWAYS, without fail, look ugly as sin. That being said, targa’s are usually a really nice middle ground, and those glass expanses are gorgeous
