Good review. By and large, I don't buy pens that come without a converter, but I might give this one a try. The green one convinced me. But I will say that 0. is usually considered an extra fine tip or nib, 0.5 is a fine, 0.7 is a medium, and 0.9 is a bold.. As for the word "Prefounte", it's Martian, and it means "We were all drunk when we named this thing".

James, we share the name! The Martian word effect is a conscious creation of Japanese origin. Think about the Toyota car names. BTW, do you have roots in Lancaster County PA? My G. Grandfather, M. M. Ritchie was eldest of ten (1) boys, served in the Civil War, etc. There must be a considerable clan descended from such a progeny, no?

When I bought my Preppy (from Cult Pens in UK) they also sold me a small adapter which allows you to use a standard international converter. I assume the adapter would work in the Prefounte as well. Other pen reviewers seem to enjoy the Prefounte. The design is definitely growing on me. I think I'll have to purchase one. I must admit I like all of the colours and that will be the most difficult choice.

Yes that universal adapter does work with prefounte. I recently bought one.. just a bit tight around the feed point though..

These are nice looking pens. I have a Preppy Crystal and am content with it. However, I would recommend this pen over the Preppy because it looks nicer. I like the selection of colors - deciding on one would be difficult.

This looks like it will be easy to use as an Eyedropper in the same way as the Preppy. I've been using my Preppy as an Eyedropper since I bought it and it works a treat so hopefully so will the Prefounte.

I love this pen! Can't wait to put my hands on it... Unfortunately it is not available here in Italy at the moment. Thank you for the review :) I've just subriscribed to your channel and I enjoy your videos al lot.

This is a pad called Master’s Touch Marker Pad, I found it at Hobby Lobby. It is a somewhat textured paper (like vintage stationary) that is very fountain pen/ink friendly.

Thank You for sharing! The Preppy’s shirt-clip is practically unusable. Mine broke during normal mindful use. I glued it back and never used it since. From my perspective it would have been reallly sad if they didn’t improve the clip in constructing the Prefounte. How do you like the clip?

The clip works very well, and the pen overall is quite good.

So, what do you pick? Prefounte vs Plaisir?

I feel that Preppy really is the best budget pen Platinum makes. There is almost no reason to go with anything lower than 3776 after that. I feel that if Platinum had stell-nibbed versions of 3776 outside of Japan, they could pretty much drop anything other between Preppy and 3776 gold nib. I would drop more money and go with Sailor Lecoule or Cross Bailey Light instead. Or buy couple of Preppys and eyedrop them. P.S.: I see Parker Vector, so there is another suggestion: Parker Jotter Royal. A bit small but suprisingly solid pen.

I bought the orange, red, and green Prefountes, and agree, they are much prettier in person. I bought them when they first came out a few weeks ago, and love them. I did get mine with fine point nibs. It is much better looking than the Preppy, which I also have a few, I like the look better than the Preppy. I woul drecommend the Prefounte to anyone looking for an inexpensive, nice-writing pen, or a fountain pen newbie. Thanks for the video.

The ‘green’ you are holding up looks very blue to me. Very puzzled. My phone isn’t in night mode, I assure you.

@romi dogra you're right. I don't think it's the green. That looks more like a slate blue. I've seen the green one. The green looks more like a forest green.

How do you clean the preppy or prefounte to change the ink, I couldn't pull out the feed. Any idea?

Get a bulb syringe and push water from the reservoir side. Drew from Goulet made a whole video just to have every fp user try bulb syringe

So…1. If and when you buy this pen you need the Platinum Adapter 150A. It allows you to use standard international cartridges and converters. WELL worth the pittance they cost ($3 - $4). 2. So is it me, my tablet, your camera or are you color blind? The pen you’re showing and described as being green is very very obviously medium blue. I have looked at a large number of these pens online recently and when they say green they show as a very striking emerald green color on my screen…but the one you show is, again, blue. Platinum is one of my very favorite pin lines and I have a number of them here that I enjoy. I just ordered the emerald green Prefounte in both the medium and fine with the adapters. I’m sure I will enjoy them very much indeed. Planning to use Graf von Faber Castell’s fabulous Moss Green ink cartridges. Thanks as always for your excellent video.

Sooo I have two of these just came in yesterday. I love them, the price is unbeatable and they are simple and nice. However these nibs do not write as a Medium. Not at all as a Japanese medium, rather an European broad.

James, do your kids enjoy using fountain pens as well?

And a cleaned up appearance (I don't like that the Preppy has so much printed on the barrel), but yes.

The deal breaker for me was it not coming with a converter, so I purchased a six pack of Jinhao 992s from Amazon and now have not only six with converters but plenty to share with friends. Of course, I have no idea how the Prefointe writes(and I believe that you pronounced it correctly), so I cannot compare it with the Jinhao 982. Great review.
