Platinum Prefounte Fountain Pen Unboxing & Review

A first look at a new budget fountain pen from Platinum. The Prefounte is a slightly classier version of the Platinum Preppy.
At 10:40 I try out a new format called "Pen Grades". Let me know what you think!

It's good to see a company using mechanical drafting pencil sizing for a fountain pen. It's about time all pen companies around the world did the same, then finally the public will know what they're getting. Good solid review, and very enjoyable.

I have that same one. Had to try it. I had no issue with ink leakage though. It’s a nice starter pen or work pen that you don’t mind if it gets scratched or lost. Thanks for the review

I bought three of them (red, orange, green) with a fine point nib. For what they are, they are wonderful, smooth writing pens. I did eye dropper mine and so far, have not had a problem. I have several Preppys which are eye droppered, and I have had no problem with them, either. I would have no problem recommending the PreFounte.

For writability, do you think it's the same with preppy's or better? I mean, in smoothness and all (because i notice the feed and nib should be the same). I go to college, and in my place it's not the norm to use fancy pens, especially FPs. So if there are no difference beside the look, the casing, i would prefer Preppy (and i've had them too) to take to my classes as it didn't catch attention, and looked like regular pen at first glance. Cause i avoid getting questioned about my pen, i feel like my preferences is questioned, i love my FPs and want to enjoy them quietly.

arisa momoka The Prefounte and Preppy have the same writing experience. The pens are identical except for the caps and the available colors. Preppy is a great choice for a school pen. You could also look at my recent video on the Monami Olika, that could be another option.

How will it run with waterman turquoise? I have the ink but looking for a budget friendly pen which runs smooth with waterman. I am looking under 10$ pen. I faced problems with lamy turquoise but jinhao M nib went very wet and smooth. I love wetness. How more the wetness I love it. Please suggest one to me. My waterman seems to be dry with some pens. Is dryness common property with turquoise? And thanks for sharing your reviews. Good work.

Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, I do not have experience with that particular ink. However, in my experience the Preppy nib & feed, which the Prefounte shares, works with a wide range of inks and is moderately wet. You can also get a fountain pen to write wetter, although there is always some risk to modifying your pen. There are lots of helpful videos about this on KZread, I learned a lot from his video from The Pen Habit: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6mlm9aue7XIc7w.html

@@biharijivandana6894 Yes, a normal Preppy would be a cheaper way to test with your ink. I don't know of a way to determine the best nib, but you might inquire on a web forum like www.fountainpennetwork.com

The Platinum Plaisir is still a better new suit for the Preppy, but being metal it wouldn't be eyedropperable. Again, it has the same section, with an aluminum body/cap.

Thanks for mentioning the Plaisir, I didn't think to reference it in the video. You definitely get more for your $ if you upgrade from a Preppy to a Plaisir than if you upgrade to a Prefounte. Personally, I don't like the wide cap band on the Plaisir, so I don't own one.

Michael De Leon In my experience, Preppys need an o-ring and silicone grease in order to be eyedroppered. They just don’t close up tight enough otherwise. If you didn’t do that already, perhaps try again.
