The New Phase Of The War In Ukraine

Who is actually winning the war in Ukraine has changed almost weekly. Just five months ago, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine looked very different. Putin launched a three-prong nation-wide assault, raining down cruise missiles, surrounding the capital and taking small villages and towns. But very quickly, Ukrainian forces held their defense lines and forced the Russians, who had come unprepared for a long fight, to pull back. Now, the war is a battle of positions, with the Ukrainian forces on the defensive in the Donbas region, trying to slow the Russian advance down. VICE News travels to the Kharkiv and Donbas regions of Eastern Ukraine to gain a clearer understanding of an ever-changing and volatile frontline in one of the world’s most brutal ongoing conflicts.

I met the Canadian Ukrainian volunteer Denys at my neighbourhood pub and he was a regular there. We've all been wondering where he's been since the war broke out and he went missing (one could assume) and now he shows up on the Vice video I'm watching. Mind Blown

You have to be careful when volunteering for foreign armed conflicts, alot of men who volunteered to help the Kurds in the middle east (yanno, the one with the women fighters which all of our medias praised) got arrested or at the least detained when they got back home. Most of the British volunteers were arrested and sentenced, if any of them tried to go through Turkey (shithole country) they were arrested and sentenced. I imagine if you make your intentions publicly known you'll get no-fly'd on airliners and harassed by your government and law enforcement, never mind the risk you'd place on yourself when you enter Ukraine especially if you don't take your sim card or something out right away.

Westerners and NATO, the inory of accusing Russia. While stepping on the Iraqi's corpse. UN unauthorised invasion by America and NATO puppets months after when oil companies in Iraq and the government wanted to sell oils not by USD, only with Euro. Man, on 1st day they killed 66,081 innocent civilians that includes children and women. According to their own culture, the Iraqi citizen was literally living in peace just like Saudi. But, when Iraq government stopped using 'petrodollar' you what happened. They brought freedom and democracy to that country with destroyed civilian infrastructure. Intially, 66,081 innocent civilians. By the way, the 'weapon of mass destruction' no even found which was then main (fake) reason to invade Iraq. Similarly Gaddafi, stopped using Petrodollar got killed by NATO. By, same dictatorship and socialist ideas are prevail in Saudi,UAE. why the West is not attacking Saudi? As long as you're with America and you use the petrodollar currency you're okay to do war crimes. Hypocrites westerners lol.

Russians don't collect their dead, because 1) they don't want to spend resources on this and want to burden ukrainians. 2) If soldier is reported missing, the government doesn't need to pay 7 000 000 rubles of compensation. 3) Each real body and funeral gives a clue to how big casualties are. The state doesn't want people to know this. Because it paints a very bleak picture of russian success in Ukraine and shows that ukrainians are not at all inferior to russians as russian propaganda made people to believe for many years. And, frankly, russians as imperial nation always looked at all other nations of their empire as inferior, a "little brothers", although some of them are older and has own developed culture and comparable historical background. 4) Russian state loves to say that "русские своих не бросают" - russians don't leave behind, don't forget their own people, but in practice they almost always do. In critical situations and every day. They have no respect or concern of their fellow man and citizens. The concept of citizen and it's rights itself is pretty alien for them. Their rights begin to matter only when masses get very angry, which is a rare thing, russians have infinite patience and learned helplesness, because the state teached them to obey for a very long time.

Given the experience, the war, I would not be doing this, that. It shows that they have a heart that goes beyond their call of duty. All the more reason, it'll make a person want to pummel the enemy for trying to hurt these people and mess their land. That said, it is nice that it shows the enemy an extension of humanity, of love, in that way. It also has an notion of 'leaving the dead bury the dead' yet it is a war zone and they have done so much, worked so tirelessly. They deserve to win. Highest of hopes.

as a former infantry marine who fought the entire iraq war i can whole heartedly say that its not the old weapons the russians are using thats causing them to loose, its the training. in the marine corps we had m249 saws aka light infantry machine guns that were being held together with creative ways. the door came off the hinges on the humvee i was in and i had to hold it up till we got back to base. another humvee had broken down on us in the middle of a fire fight so we toed it back, after we advanced and closed in on the enemy of course. the marine corps as explained to me by higher ranking officials has a small budget so we focus on training rather than up to date gear. some of our items were from vietnam.

Liar. I served in Iraq and Afgahnistan we had the best equipment the US military had to offer. Go peddle your BS on CNN's website. They lie just like you. America did the same thing that Russia is doing now, no difference but Russia is somehow the bad guy? What a load of garbage. America is the evil empire not Russia, not Iraq, not Iran. Stop the lies, American media is just making the situation worse and painting Americans as hypocrites.

I can’t believe those bodies were just left there… I only wish that the russian government could feel the deep shame and guilt of treating even their own citizens in this manner.

Them Russian soldiers know what time it is. They know what they’re doing in Ukraine, they know there is no honor in what they’re fighting for and the atrocities they’re committing. No honor or respect deserved
