The NEW Grand Seiko high-end quartz GMT 2022
Hello everybody, welcome to my KZread channel!
My name is Aleks and in this video I take a closer look at the new 2022 release from Grand Seiko and their updated high-end quartz GMT reef. SBGN027.
This is a watch that I truly enjoyed to review. For the price point it is hard to beat and Grand Seiko offers tremendous value for the money.
Big shoutout to Klockmaster Globen in Stockholm that is an official retailer for Grand Seiko for lending me the watche.
Make sure you hit that like and subscribe button.

Regarding Grand Seiko: I hate them. They make the rest of my watch collection look silly, including my Santos. I hate them so much that I now have three of them, and there's another SGBN013 on the way to me. I was doubting to get either this SGBN027 or the 013, and now you mention the dial is blackish-brownish, I hope the same is the case for the 013. I used to have that on the SGBP011, and that was so goodlooking with the sunburst which could only be teased out under specific light. Sadly I flipped that one for the smaller SBGX265, which is lovely, but less subtle. That said, I don't understand what people have against Grand Seiko bracelets. I've had and re-sized four of them now, both the 3-link oyster and the 5-link. They are bomb proof, well made, but are still airy and well articulated, which makes them supremely comfortable. Regarding clasp and fit: If you fiddle a bit, you can get a supreme fit with the 2/3 links, and I really really hope Grand Seiko continues to completely ignore the complaints about the clasp. The clasp is thin, it is comfortable, and the bevels that are milled on it make it wear like it's not there. As soon as they start including one of those over-sized monstrosities with glide-lock, I will never buy a Grand Seiko bracelet again. That said: The Cartier Santos also has a lovely clasp, and also no quick adjust. It is also a wonderful bracelet.
I love what GS is doing with Quartz. It tends to fill a lower price tier and offer smaller, slimmer, cases that don’t seem to be possible with Spring Drive. Beyond that, a Quartz GMT makes a ton of sense as it avoids the need to set the date and the GMT hand repeatedly. In almost every respect, THIS is the ideal everyday or GADA watch, not it’s mechanical counterparts.

Couldn’t agree more. Caller GMT is much easier to set but for a traveler I love my older grand seiko quartz
They framed the date on the inside instead of the outside. It makes the dial look cleaner.

Good pickup ! No wonder the dial still looked Soo good even if the date window isn't "bordered" it is just done more cleanly !

I’d literally never noticed that before, bit of a game changer for me actually. Do you know if it’s the same for the Spring Drive GMTs?
I have 3 Grand Seiko in my collection, and I really love the value for money that they provide. Their watches often have a masculine, sharp edged design, that appeals to me. Out of all the watches I own, they have to rank as some of my favourite timepieces.
GS deserves all the love

I've read a lot of complaints saying the old version was a much more attractive piece. I kind of agree, but it also seemed to pull to much inspiration from the Explore II. This new version is all Seiko in design and I like that about it. It's grown from a borderline homage to it's own design.

I prefer the new one mainly because of the black and white color scheme. The people saying GS cheaped out on the new version don’t know what they’re saying and haven’t seen the watches irl. They just changed the look to be more in line of other GS models and that’s perfectly understandable. The 4 ‘o clock date is a typical Seiko/grand seiko design feature. It might not be everyone’s taste but there’s plenty of other watch brands out there.

I actually like the new version better. I like that the date window is more subtle.
It's good that the case sides are mirror polished. If you get a small scratch, it will be easier to remove. I just wish Seiko would make this watch with a nice white dial. It would sell very well.
the monochromatic design is so COOL
That is a Beautiful watch, excellent review. Thanks
Picked up a 226570 in december 2022, 2 weeks ago I got this GS in monochrome. To be honest, it wears better than the explorer 2. The proportions of this watch are borderline perfect. I am a huge fan of GMT watches and this may be my favorite purchase in years. The only “negative” is that it appears a bit boring. See sure, there is zaratsu polishing, but not a lot. Looking at the watch it appears fully brushed. I do own another GS with the 44gs case and it shines like a diamond! I kind of miss a part of that on this one.
Have the blue version with the red second and gmt hands. You can just stare at the dial and tick of the second hand. Afterwards I considered the auto version, money not being a major reason, just wanted one of their quartz. Have a Spring drive and 60th anniversary,
I think it was a good idea to move the date window to the 4 position. It lines up with the crown position. So it feels more balance. The previous model had the crown in the 3 position, so having the date window there made sense.
I just picked up the blue dial version this weekend and it really pops out in the sun. Wears amazing and great proportions. I actuality love the offset crown as I have some Tudors and a Rolex. I do wish they kept the window frame abd lume on all the indices; but the light emitted reflects off the other markers making them visible at night under lume. What got me interested was that Grand Seiko was the "quartz" watch to have in a collection. Plus adding a few straps and its a really versatile and elegant watch. Cheers!

Congrats dude!
Think the date window suits the monochrome style
I went to the dealer to look and the SBGN003 is just nicer and easier to read...they should have made the GMT hand a color more different than the minute hand (my eye at least gets distracted/confused and it takes a tiny bit more work to read the time than it should). I like the WR, but really prefer the 3 date and the date frame looks so much better. I am not just saying this...I looked at both and bought a SBGN003. No regrets. I don't get more than 100 feet deep very often....

agree with both points, GMT hand without obvious colour difference actually delays the reading of time at first glance, it just takes about a sec to comprehend which are the 2 timing hands, and a watch without rotating bezel with 200m is overkill, could have slim it down with just 100m WR
Great watch! Great video!

Great info Aleks, I like the specks and price points however Longines offer a full automatic with 72hrs powers reserved with a little lower price so it’s a hard choice . Would love to see the watch in the metal . Love the proportions

The Longines is also great, did a review on that one as well. However, in terms of wearability the GS wins for me

What other bracelets can I put on that watch? I love the jubilee bracelet but I haven't ever tried GS jubilee bracelet. Do you know of any brands that are compatible with this specific model watch?

Other than the extra water resistance, I prefer the older SBGN005 or SBGN003 versions. I have the SBGN003 so could be bias 😁
Unfortunately I like only one thing about this new version: The numbers on the inner ring. And even these I can do without. They changed for the worse and increased the price by 100 quid in respect to the predecessor: - no framed date window and not even color matched (the SBGN003 had a black date on a black dial. Much better) - date and crown at 4 without the crown-guards - chopped off hands (I know, preferences...) - slightly thicker case - polished sides on a sports watch - reduced lume (now only on 12, 6 and 9) I had the 027 on the wrist (it still wears impeccable) and it didn't hit the markers which is a trademark of the 9F... I don't know what they were thinking about or what their thought process was...
I just purchased this watch and am impressed by the fit and quality. I own an Explorer II 16570 and this watch is the perfect option for travel without the worry of theft. The links are easy to remove and the fit is great. Not having micro adjustability makes for a very clean bracelet that feels every bit as good as my Rolex. No complaints with looks and the accuracy is an amazing accomplishment. Great watch with high end looks for a reasonable price. Thanks for the review, it helped me to buy it.

I’d rather have a spring drive, but who has that kind of money?
Wish they kept the lume on all the markers like the previous gens too…seems like they cheapened out a bit with this update, but are charging more.
@SampleTracks2224

The watch is cheaper here than the old one. Also I suspect lume is cheaper than more polished facet. Like it or not, GS is going for lume on the 3 6 9 12 only as part of its design cues.

@ryanafloyd
Жыл бұрын
@@justingalore123 Aside from the every-three-year battery replacement, the SBGN027 has a 50 year service window. At that point you'd think Grand Seiko would just say, "hey, this doesn't need servicing." Hahaha!
Can you set the GMT hand to the same as the hour hand? Having 3 hands when you don't need it, could be confusing. Especially when they're all the same colour.
@AleksWatches

No since the GMT is 24h and hour hand 12h

@AleksWatches Thank you very much - I really appreciate your reply. Thinking about it, the GMT hand is longer anyway. So even if I could synchronise with the hour hand, It would look like having two minute hands! I would probably go for the SBGN005 instead.

Why ??
@user-cx8zc6rh8z
5 ай бұрын
@@lockheat11 the reason I want a moveable bezel is because it so versatile. One, a great (low tech) timer-up to one hour for the minute hand and 12 hours for the hour hand. Second, a third time zone. Third, keeping track of zoom calls and appts throughout the day. A VERY useful complication!
I have a grand seiko SBGX085...Missing 2 screws and pin bar from spare links..I wear the watch at present but when I contacted grand seiko Dubiln Ireland they say grand seiko Japan want the watch sent back to Japan. ..That's pure stupid.. watch is ok but need two small screws for the spare links..Image what I'll be charged to just get two scwers which are tiny...puts me off ever buying a grand seiko again.

What's there problem..they don't listen to thier customers....micro adjustment is a must..Are the authorised dealers afraid to tell them what customers want..My grand seiko fits me om a cold day..if I'm warm it gets tight on my wrist.If I add a extra link its away to big....My micro brand watches fit better for a fraction of the price..

Huge downgrade from the previous version. Going from 11 lume pips to 4? What??? Why??? Losing the only p[op of color in the GMT hand. Why??? Completely gratuitous. Moving the crown. OK, not terrible but certainly not an upgrade. Seiko fails again.
