The NEW Fujifilm X100V, can it be improved? Three things that NEED to happen with the X100VI
Check out my Zine: bit.ly/4cUo4hw
If I were Mr Fujifilm, I'm not sure I'd be too worried about releasing the Fujifilm X100vi, the successor to the incredibly popular Fujifilm X100V mirrorless camera.
I've owned the X100V since the day it was released and it is very safe to say it is definitely my favourite ever camera. In this video, we talk about how the X100V can be improved and when the new X100V will be announced in 2024.

Have owned my X100V for 18 months or so. Live out in the wilds of Scotland, so more into “intimate landscapes” than street photography. Didn’t realise how much this little camera would influence me, and teach me more than my full-frame Canon set up and holy trinity of lenses. I sold the big camera, lenses, tripod and all that baggage, and determined to press ahead with my wee Fuji, with the only extras being occasional use of the wide angle adapter and a polariser. Been thinking about the X-T5, but honestly, if the next X100V comes with IBIS and a 40 megapixel sensor, I’ll probably just upgrade. Got the latest f8 zine - lovely work, really value the tips and honesty. Keep up the great work - I, and I’m sure plenty of others appreciate it.

The one and only thing that would have made the X100 series the best of all time for street would have been a proper manual focus option with DOF scale marking🤤🤤 But I can only dream on.

Good video Gareth, thanks for putting your thoughts down. A couple things I’d add. I have the Ricoh and the X100F - there are a few things that the Ricoh nails that Fuji needs to keep up with- - being able to download Raw from camera - the BLE -> WiFi hand over is really great on the Ricoh - IBS you are spot on and - I can fit the Ricoh, genuinely in my pocket. Ever since purchasing the Ricoh I have yet to pick up my Fuji just because I can fit it in my pocket (shorts not just jeans). This is a huge selling point for me and the Ricoh has terrible battery life but I can bring a few in my other pocket. It’s also USB-C. Anywho thanks again and I look forward to what Fuji may or may not do in the future. But for now I’m using the Ricoh.

I have the original X100, purchased new when it was introduced, I sold it to my Buddy when I moved on to the XPro2, but I repurchased it from that same friend a few years later. It was indeed a marvellous camera with a few quirks but just a fun camera to carry around and leave the heavy Canon bodies for paid jobs. Now I’m shooting full frame and no plans to move back to X100?? I Enjoy your videos. Cheers !

I'm still shooting an X100s, being prompted to pick one up by Zack Arias, in what seems like a millennia ago. Despite having had an XT3 and XT4, this is the first camera I grab, whether it be for portraits or events. The X100v was a compelling enough upgrade that I have been searching one out for a very long time. I never did find one, so if the upgrade is of equal quality, I'll purchase one. If not, I'll wait for a TikTocker to upgrade and will buy their old X100v.

I think you were spot on in the first couple of minutes Gareth, downhill from then on 😁. Forgive my cynicism but as a long-time Fuji user we're entering the oh so predictable " must have the latest " consumerist pattern that happens like clockwork with every new Fuji release. All those that hailed the X100V as the greatest ever are now trying to find reasons however spurious to justify an upgrade which were never previously significant enough to even merit a mention as drawbacks UNTIL the new model appears. Onboard storage, bigger battery, IBIS, even higher resolution - why was the X100V not panned for failing to provide these " essential " features when it came out ? Get your pre-orders in now folks, your life will not be worth living without the X100VI, the X100V is positively outdated. 😂

It’s my understanding that the next model will have the 40mp sensor and IBIS. But I’m hoping for a usb-c port for powering and recording data transfer as well as their improved AF from the xh2. I also wouldn’t mind them offer a 18mm lens option over the 23mm, especially with the 40mp sensor, but thats probably not a popular opinion. Ha. I’m definitely ready for an update though. As much as I enjoyed my x100v, it’s feeling pretty dated next to my xh2/xh2s. I just want it to scale up and down as needed depending on if I want it to be a small carry around camera, or a small b/c camera that can keep up.

Well, if you follow Fuji Rumours...who are usually very accurate indeed....you will have seen the latest post and info from them saying the X100V successor (thought to be the X100VI) will soon be announced by Fuji. The rumours say it will have the 40mp sensor and IBIS The price is rumoured to be around €1799. Patrick at Fuji Rumours only gives information from reliable sources that have been 99% correct each time. So, that will be a real game changer!!!

Can someone explain his auto focus comment.. he said something about he leaves it in 2 meters to infinity? What does that mean exactly. How I think about manual is on my z8 where you gotta twist the manual ring to get in focus.. we got zebra lines to see what’s in focus.. whats the system here? I was interested in the x100v before I realised it was impossible to get for retail.

I did not realize that the X100 was made to be a street camera. I thought it was just a camera. I watched many videos on YT, and based on that I bought the X100F a few years back. I struggled and wrestled with it for a long time, trying to photograph the family, 2 fast-moving kids, and everything else. I had missed focus so many times - even when the kids were completely still I did not have the eye in focus! - that I kept thinking that I was not able to take a decently sharp photo, that there was something wrong with me. I sold the camera, and while I miss the small thing I can throw in my bag, I would not invest in Fuji again until they fix the AF! Everything else is secondary. The X100V might be somewhat better BUT it is still not good enough. Fujifilm needs to keep up with the competition, and so far it has not figured out how to do it. AF is the Achilles heel of Fuji.

@@GarethDanks I still have an X-T3. I had also an X-T20, which I had to... let go of when the 'skin' of the camera was practically peeling off after limited use... and I made a "bold" attempt to fix it... Enough said. The only reason I am not selling the T3 is that I would have to invest too much in fixing the screen which is dying on me slowly - and would get very little money out of my investment. The second reason is that I have the lenses, the focal reducer, the flash, and many gadgets that I invested in when I thought I would build this thing into more than a hobby. But the experience seriously dented my confidence. I think the last drop was when my family hired a photographer for a family event - not a wedding!!! but a bigger family get-together - because they wanted to have good photos... It kinda broke my heart, but I knew I did not have a stellar record in delivering sharp images. I am sure that there are incremental improvements with each new version of the camera, but that is not good enough. BTW, from these 3 cameras the X100F was the worst when it comes to AF.
