I’m sorry, but I can’t get a grip on these stories. Although they are enjoyable, the grammar is often faulty, they are full of inappropriate American sayings, and often the wrong words are used. Please explain; perhaps I’m being obtuse, but I do have a degree in English (UK).

Yes, I am also shocked by some of the word choices as I am an American... a very conservative Christian one at that. I was also an English lit/ OT Theology major. However, I taught my 5 children that no word has an innate meaning. I can call an item anything I choose. If I can get enough people to call it by that name, then that is what it is. As for the grammar... these characters present to us as real people. Very seldom would you meet someone who speaks 'standard' English. ... Think on this. I hope I understood your angst and eased it🧐😊

This is so UNLIKE a traditional Sherlock Holmes story that I have nothing good to say about it. A waste of time from the outset.
