Nice twist. Good story. Like that episode of Gunsmoke where Marshall Dillon has been getting pestered all week by the little Billy kid.

If only we had had this when I had those hard times reading and studying for O-level. Ironically we also had Animal Farm that year, the 20th Century symbolism story.

Very good. There is a mistake at 50 minutes in where the lady of the house says that the body of her husband, rather than the murder victim , was removed by the undertaker.

What "swagger of Americans " does this refer to? 76 years in the U.S. I have never seen such to date. Brits have a skewed take on us in some ways. As well they refer to us as "our American cousins" that we neither see or think in kind. Our connection in history being centuries ago, there is no closeness in our minds. With masses of immigrants nowadays, future generations will see themselves quite differently than we do now. U.S. does not teach much of anything about other countries or stay current from others' perspectives. My 3/4 cebtury's life experiences, born in Los Angeles, entails being in the 80 % in 1948 with that shifted to 30% nowadays. My Mom, living in Los Angeles for 6 decades from West Texas, said lately, in Brentwood, a pricey, exclusive part of town, she NO LONGER EVER hears ANY English spoken! As our schools do NOT teach school kids a second language......that seems queer and scary at home in ones decades old neighborhood. Life in the big city.

I like this reader's voice and diction, and I don't get too het up over how people pronounce Lovecraftian names. It's the perfectly standard English vocabulary items that get the odd -- even, let's say, "incorrect" -- pronunciations that I find kind of distracting, and detract from the listening experience.

I've been a fan of Sherlock Holmes since I was 12 years old, and I rode my bike to the local Woolworth's 5&10 store. I used my allowance to purchase my first S.H. novel, a picture book, and I was hooked. Now, 60 years later. I discovered these new novels. The author has done a great job with researching info that is incorporated in the stories. The narration is the icing on the cake. I'm hooked all over again. Thank you!

The narrator's indrawn breaths aren't QUITE enough to make me close the app, but are grating on my nerves badly. The thing that would make this worse is an American reader. I'm not a xenophobe. I'm a Texan born and raised myself, but I cannot listen to my countrymen butchering books, especially those by British authors. The continual gasping of Mr. Thomas runs a distant second.

This is unlike any Edgar Wallace I've ever read so I was prepared from the comments below to dislike it and tune out after a short time. But it is really funny and I'm enjoying it immensely! Recommend it heartily to Wallace readers who want to see him in a playful mood.

Here we go again. Father's message was spot on until he got to Fiducia Supplicans. This was a document that was not needed. Everyone can receive God's mercy, however, no repentance, no mercy. Fiducia Supplicans fell short because it did not call persons living in same sex relationships to repentance. If you commit adultery or fornication, repentance is also required for God's mercy. As Jesus said in John 8:11, "Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more." So many like to leave out the go and sin no more part. I understand why the priest has to tread lightly around the Fiducia Supplicans document. A number of clergy have been removed by Pope Francis from their positions and parishes for opposing the document. I admire the moral courage of those who did oppose it.

I was in tears throughout the whole first part This is the epitome of old archeology, find a corpse take it to the museum and absolutely not call a “professional” archeologist to the place Holmes comparing them to Schliemann (pardon if there is a misspelling) as justification for WHY they should continue (he who discovered the city of Troy and excavated it by BLOWING IT UP and destroying thousands of years of history in what should have been a crime against humanity, as well as stealing historical artifacts from Greece ) is just so freaking funny, and Sherlock calling the both of them grave robbers just reinforces that The freaking old “archeology” - we just have fun and blow things up what’s that you say about protecting valuable evidence of times past - vibe has me in tears I applaud the author for that I’m just sad not everybody might get some of the references

This book is the dreams both of the explorer and megalomaniac. To take strange lands and to rule them. If you have no inkling of this sensation, something felt only by the Alexander's and Juliuses, you will not enjoy this book.

It is very disappointing that the most famous characters of sir Arthur Conan Doyle were subjected to such humiliation.
