The New 8Bitdo Pro 2 Colorways Are Amazing, The Best Bluetooth Controller?
Ойындар
8Bitdo just dropped some new Pro 2 controllers in Atomic Purple and Smoke Black and in this video, we look at them both and test these excellent Wireless controllers on the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Windows Laptop, and Android. In my opinion, this is one of the best third-party controllers on the market.

Seemed to skim over one of the most unique features of the battery compartment. Not only is the battery pack removable, you can also remove the battery pack and run it off of 2 AA batteries as well, which completely eliminates the worry of "what if they stop making these batteries in the future"

For real, doode. That's such an important thing for me. Especially since it keys me keep gaming over the pack loses charge.

And you can also remove the battery and make it into a wired USB controller if you didn't want to spend money on batteries. Although I think buying rechargeable AA's would be the best choice if the 8bitdo batteries were no longer available.

Pro 2 is amazing! I love that you can also use a phone app to configure the profiles for every platform on the fly!
Nice. I like how you actually showed for any potential input latency at 6:50. This is what I needed to see before I get one of these.
I picked up the Pro2 as soon as it hit store shelves, and have also been using it's predecessor the SN30Pro+ for a couple years now. Both controllers work and feel great and are so versatile. I love how easy it is to switch them between my Nintendo Switch, PC, and my android phone. I also picked up the USB adapter so I can use these controllers on my PS4, as well, and I would highly recommend it as it will also allow you to use ANY controller with whatever device it's connected to. XBox controller on your PS4, PS4 with your Switch, etc. It's not just for 8BitDo controllers, it's universal and for ~$20, it's well worth the asking price.

I out of the blue added one of these thumbstick protectors to the last order I made from 8bitdo and was really pleasantly surprised. The texture is great and they stay on firmly enough that I don't mind using them on the controllers the kids use. And I was looking for something like this because they tend to control the sticks with their nails digging in and we've lost a couple of analog caps already XD
I absolutely love this controller. I have the regular color, but am seriously considering getting one of these. 8bitdo controllers are fantastic. Have two of the snes ones for my analogue supernt, and just bought their fightstick on Prime day.

Bought one wired controller from them for switch & pc, it doesn't work right on switch dropping inputs & holding the latest inputs for like a second or two. Extremely disappointing because I've heard nothing but good stuff from them & don't have as much money to be buying 4 or 5 controllers from them.

8 bit and Retro Fighters make great controllers . The rubber grips come in handy on the Vita. Especially when the center rubber is gone on the joystick.

These are awesome 8BitDo are my favorite controllers!
Those colorways remind me of my original ps1 controller which was a clear plastic but in a bright red color. I had a lot of great times with that one.
These got good reviews from Lon Seidman as well. I like the purple one too. If the letter buttons could have been used on the semi-transparent controllers that would make it all the more appealing.

Not atomic purple. Google atomic purple.
Finally a 3rd party controller with leveled joysticks! Now if only some handheld manufacturers would do the same
Very cool color, and a pretty good controller! I just wish they made more effort into 2.4ghz. Bluetooth is great for compatibility, but the input delay it creates makes it so I only use my 8BitDo BT controllers for very casual play. A switch to jump between the two modes and include a USB adapter + a “classic” adapter for the controllers that mimic the old school controllers and we’d be solid in all ways of using these without having to buy extra controllers.
Thanks for testing this, does the gyro work on the steam deck and windows with analogue triggers as well? Wireless?
My like was the 1K! Good video!
Love the intro music
You always do great videos dude 💯
The first thing I always do with 8BitDo controllers is fire up Contra and see how they work. I've had two of them that didn't have issues with the diagonals.
I bought the atomic purple to go with my sons rp3 plus and I got the smoke one for me for my rp3 plus black. I can’t wait to get them. I noticed that Nintendo stopped selling as well as all retailers the pro controller. I bought 4 of those for my kids and the reviews mention that Walmart was selling fake ones. They would work a few times and then die. Btw great review.
cant wait to get the purple one i currently have the og sn30pro2 black one and the sn30 pro snes color
As always, crushing these videos dude!! Got the atomic purple - which is gorgeous- but dpad seems mushy - not easy to get at diagonals. Is that normal for these or did I get a problematic one?
That purple control n thumb pad is nice... Ima wait for a price drop though I recently just got the gray if I knew id of waited
The Pro 2 is such a great control, glad I got one. The only citicism I have is it doesnt have a wake function for Switch, which I dont understand at all.
Thinking of switching over to these controllers. Overall, I feel the value especially as I get into playing some of the older stuff I forgot about. Let's be honest, as a man with man sized hands, the Xbox controller scheme has ALWAYS felt correct to me. Shifting to a Playstation style joystick config is hard. I still find myself wanting that original Xbox controller stick layout and handfill. If that's even a word. BUT I can remember the days when I adored my ps1. Honestly these are the best value for feature set and usability I can find. Especially if you do emulation. And the color schemes are just a great nostalgic finishing touch. 👌
Yes looked at the instructions online and you can set it to have turbo. So clutch for retro games.
I use a solid black Pro 2 as my main pad, mostly on PC and Android but occasionally on Switch when friends are over. One thing I've noticed is that the vibration seems super heavy on some games. Battletoads 2020 is a big one, and most Switch games also vibrate harder than they should on account of no HD Rumble, but overall it's the best pad for me.

Do really like the look of the Smoke Black one.
The ultimate software can already update the firmware. But the newer firmwares can be a bit buggy. And you don't need to touch the shoulder buttons when pairing to switch, it's all automatic.
I have two of these one is wired grey and one wireless black, great controllers
hey man - loving your content and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us! You've inspired me to build an eGPU to go with my minipc (your KingDel linked model isn't available now but I managed to find one from KingNovy with a Ryzen 9 5900HX and 2 PCIe slots so I'm waiting patiently for it to arrive!). I'm going to pair it with a Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Vision and 2x 32GB DDR3200 modules ... I reckon it'll handle Adobe Premiere Pro and Blender real sweet :) I don't game much but I reckon it'll handle Rainbow 6 Seige and AoE II no problems, eh? ;P I know you mentioned in one of your vids that it's not what you would do but I just don't like big cases on the desk or getting in the way of my feet and the footprint of the Franken-pc will be small enough that it'll just be an ornament on the desk :) I would have just been miserably putting up with crud performance if it hadn't been for your videos - so thanks again for sharing the exploits of your curiousity with us :) Watching your vids showing the emulators has reminded me that I still have an original Game Boy Colour and N64 in the cupboard ... it might be time to dig them out for some nostalgia! 🤣🤣 A quick question for you re. the power for my Franken-pc: I can get hold of one of the 220 watt units that you mentioned (which would be convenient because it has the 6-pin PCIe connector) but I don't think that will leave much head-room for the 3060 Ti. So I've been looking for inline power supplies with a bit more oomph ... I found a 330 watt Dell inline adapter but it's 19.5v so I'm guessing that'll fry the PCIe interface and GPU? Another alternative is a 12v 250 watt adapter. Both options have a 5.5*2.5mm connector so I'll just need to find a barrel-to-PCIe adapter. Are you able to let me know if I'm headed in the right direction? Thanks. (And thanks again for taking the time to load your content - I know it takes hours / days to plan, create, edit, etc., ...).
If this carries over from V1, you can also drop in some AA batteries. You have very little reason to, but it does work.
lol I can't get over how your pronounce "Vibration" as "viberation" haha thanks for all the vids :)
Seems perfect, now I just wish I could get a transparent blue or green
Another great video ETA! Will the controller be recognized as a Xbox controller in games like CODM? My ps4 controller could use an upgrade lol
I love that purple 😍
What I'd like to know with specific controllers like this that have 2 additional mappable buttons underneath the hand grips is how good is this layout for N64 games?? It seems to me having an A,B,C and X,Y,Z configuration like Sega Saturn, Arcade or N64 controllers in a form like this is just... never going to happen. All I want is a PS2 controller with an A and B button, just below and to the left of the pointy square O X. Nice controllers though! If i ever upgrade from wired X-Box 360 controllers, these may be my first choice, thx ETA Prime, always a treat watching your vids. =)

Best controller ever...🖤 I have the 8bitdo 8 pro 2 in black and I don't wanna miss him.
Whoa awesome... we're one step closer to a "Funtastic Orange" Pro2. And when it happens, I'll buy at least three of them.
You should perform the "contra test" for the DPAD. 8BitDo have notoriously bad DPADs as when you play 4-way games it's super easy to hit diagonals. I wonder if they fixed this for this controller? contra test is load up Contra NES. Hold down on the DPAD and roll your thumb left and right. If your character stays crouching the DPAD is excellent and doesn't hit diagonals, meaning when you hold down it doesn't press LEFT or RIGHT at the same time.
ETA PRIME...You are awesome 😎
I loved the purple one, it looks so cool! Also, are you Professor Messer's alter ego? somehow your voice sounds like his.
I have the first edition (black) and this controller is awesome. I loved. Using on PC.
These are really great controllers. BEst and most versatile I've ever used.
The black on black looks good.
is the material used the same as the opaque versions of the 8bitdo pro 2 controllers? very tempted to get the purple controller
Finally some decent joystick placement
This new intro hits hard...
Atomic purple has always been my overall fave ever since the GBC. Something about 8Bit-do's Atomic purple is off maybe on purpose to avoid copy rights or they just didn't really spec much time on that pallette wheel in the shop. 😆 Still loving my AP SN30 pro and plan to cop the Jade Grn one too.
I have the Gray Edition 8BitDo Pro 2, as well as the officially licensed wired 8BitDo Pro 2 for Xbox and PC. The width across the top makes these controllers so comfortable to hold for people with large hands. The standard Xbox controller is fine, but I don't like the fact that it significantly narrows at the top. As for color... The purple 8BitDo Pro 2 looks very nice no doubt, but there's just something about the Gray Edition that hits right for me.

Hey, is the USB cable Atomic Purple as well?
Wished it had connection with usb dongle. I noticed slight input lag with Bluetooth. I bought a 3 meter long flexible cord usb cable and it's a great controller for an Android box.

The Pro 2 (black) is currently my go to controller for PC gaming because I hate xbx controllers. Next to an actual PS4 controller it's hands down the best controller I could ask for. I just wish it could be identified as a PS controller for games that recognize the difference in buttons because I still to the day have trouble remembering the layout. (and looking at the controller doesn't help because it has the nintendo layout, if I could see it _at all_ because it's all black)

I'm the same way! I hate the position of xbox buttons. I grew up entirely with nintendo and playstation so I can never get used to xbox buttons. What I do for certain games is find playstation button icon mods. The reason is because having B as a confirm button doesn't sit right with me. Since this feels like a playstation controller, it makes perfect sense when I see playstation button icons on-screen. Some games are nice enough to include in-game playstation or switch button icons (Kingdom hearts 1.5 + 2.5, Spelunky 2, Don't Starve Together).

Can you use this with a switch with a dock and an external bluetooth receiver plugged into the dock instead of the switch's built in bluetooth(maybe one of those 8 bitdo ones that look like a mario block)? the reason I am asking is this, I just got another switch and I am thinking of doing an all aluminum case mod on it, front panel ,real panel and the joycons, but I am afraid this might block out all wireless or make it really unreliable , I saw at least one report of this on an Amazon review
I love you ETA. But can I just ask, when did we start saying "colorways" instead of style, pattern, design, color scheme? It reminds me of the early 00s when no one "built" anything, they "architected" stuff.
