The NETHERLANDS is different 🇳🇱 Groningen By Motorhome

Although we've been to the Netherlands before, this was our first time in by motorhome and we're excited to make the most of our short trip. We QUICKLY learned that it's not as 'motorhome friendly' as most of western Europe and it was a bit of a surprise to have to struggle to find overnight pakring spots! Our first stop was the university city of Groningen, from where we headed to Utrecht to add a 'baby' to our family. 😁

    The parking restrictions for camping are for safety reasons… supervision and/or a save spot to stay. Plus there are means to lose your waist water and garbage. And that would give a mess if people would do that just everywhere

    Parking restrictions and especially sleeping overnight are restricted for any vehicle. The Netherlands have so many beautiful places to stay on campgrounds with all kind of amenities.

  • @WeWillNomad

    Waste and garbage management is no problem. There are plenty of places to legally dispose of this. The problem is the lack of adequate overnight stops for motorhomes, especially around cities. Even if you are willing to pay for a campsite or motorhome stop there's just not enough. Apart from that, the restriction on legally overnighting in a vehicle seems arbitrary. Just our opinion and experience after more than 2 years full time on the road in Europe. Thanks for your comment.

    @@WeWillNomad Well, we do have a lack of space overall. I don't think many people would appreciate cities freeing up space for tourists to stay overnight for free or little while there is a housing crisis and so many people trying to find a house.

  • @WeWillNomad

    @WeWillNomad

    9 ай бұрын

    @@annehoog It's about using space that's not always required. Locals (residents) don't overnight in carparks for example. Why can this space not be used better? Space does not have to 'be freed up'. You might as well then say all hotels should be closed and converted into apartments. On average, cities (regions, towns, municipalities) that are welcoming to tourists reap the benefits over and over. It's a massive boost to the local economy.

    HI guys. Congratulations again on reaching 10000 subscribers, well deserved 💙Another cracking video, we love how visiting different, less well known places can throw up surprises and gems. A bit of reminiscing for Nicky too, who loved her time living in The Netherlands as a young(er!) woman. As always, we enjoyed Lisa's excitement so much and Andre's calming influence. It's amazing how we nod along, as we always say - Nicky would 100% have assumed the person in front of her would buy the bike she wanted! And don't even mention the F******G bike cover! Look forward to the next instalment, K & N x

    That bike cover is still giving me a hard time! 😂😋 You know how you eventually figure out exactly where and how to do something and you can repeat it easily? We're not there yet with that cover! 😋 Thanks for the congrats, much appreciated. We're all for visiting less know places nowadays, it's different once you've 'seen and done' the more popular highlights of a country. It's actually nice not to have the pressure to 'have to ' visit a place 😋 Either way, it's brilliant to explore Europe by van if you have the luxury of time.

    You are the 10K kids ! Congrats guys. I used to live in Holland as a young fella and really liked my time there. Not sure I'd want to live there now though. The Dutch love to regulate everything, which means that everything works but its a bit clinical. In my old age, I think I'd prefer chaotic France. I love the cycling infrastructure there, and they cycle all the year round. But, its too packed, too many people in a small country. I had to scroll back but at 14:48 I think I spotted another Millie ! What do you call a Dutch campervan owner ? Jan Camper Van Mad ! Safe riding Lisa on your cool new bike, it looks amazing !

    Good eye Ronan! That was a slightly newer version of the exact model we have! 😂 The people had no idea why Lisa was so excited to see their motorhome 😂😂I reckon we agree with all you said about the Netherlands. By the way in Groningen, we were 'told' that only a certain part of the Netherlands is called Holland (western coast south of IJsselmeer) and especially in that northeast section they apparently don't like to be called 'Holland'.

    Just found your video about Groningen. Nice research you did with also going to The Reitdiephaven and Het Stadsstrand. Het Stadsstrand is very close to my home and when it's warmer weather very popular, as it's in the middle of the City. It has also the best swimming water of the City as it's connected to the canals and it's also pretty deep water. You were talking about nude people swimming. It's not a nude beach. You have that in the south of Groningen on the Hoornseplas. Reitdiephaven is a popular spot for photographers as the houses stand nicely at the waterfront. I don't think it's very touristic as it's also a couple of kilometers outside the center of the city. You where also on foot/bicycle bridge over the Van Starkenborghkanaal. That bridge is called the Gerrit Krolbrug. The part where the cars could cross the canal got hit by a ship in 2021 and is removed since that time, causing lot's of problems for the people living over the canal. That spot is also popular for photographers with that long strait canal and the trees (and lights at dark) on the side. Where you got your stroopwafels is called De Vismarkt. De Akerkhof is the surroundings around De Akerk. De Korenbeurs is right in the middle of it. That was the imposing building with an Albert Heijn in it. You are right with all the construction going on in The City. I am still confused how to cross De Grote Markt by bike now, as it's still not clear where the cyclists has to cycle over De Grote Markt. The top of Het Forum is also recommended to have a nice view over the City as you can also see "d' Olle Grieze" De Martinitoren whereas when you're on top of De Martinitoren, you can't see De Martinitoren. And it's also much easier to access with all those escalators in Het Forum. Your Motorhome was in the sportsarea of Groningen also with the highest albeit manmade point of Groningen "De Kardingeberg" with 32 meters. There is a possibility that I saw your motorhome when I was doing some sports activities there, but of course I could not know that then. And of course it must be frustrating tot have a finished edited product only to find out that you spelled Groningen wrong the whole time in the text "Groniningen". It's a nice video you made about my city.
