There is a surface similarity, basic shapes etc, but it looks cheap and does not have the detail. The best thing, the one thing that is truly a clone, are the trees, the willows by the water!

I accidentally bumped into it. O f all the replica villages I came across in China, this one was really well done. The downside was that it is in the port area of Shanghai where there's a lot of petrochemical industry, so it smelled like Pernis in the 1980's.

I'd love to live there and have the whole place to myself.

They should fire those architects from the Netherlands. If Chinese just slapped these down, well, they should have payed more attention to detail, but the Dutch builders were super negligent. That church is an abomination: it's built with big blocks like it's lego. The rest is just off, too blocky, like a maquette scaled up. But it is definitely recognisable as Dutch.

Old Dutch architecture is, indeed, lovely. If it can be replicated in China, why not elsewhere? Today, in The Netherlands, too much of the new architecture is formulaic and prosaic. (You could be anywhere--in the US, UK, etc.) The Dutch should look to the Chinese to recreate magical, mesmerising, charming Dutch towns and cities!
