I discovered this band when I met them at the wedding reception for their then record producer, Peter Katis. They played two songs at the reception, the performance of which was pictured on their next album, Boxer. For the record they performed Geese of Beverly Road and Daughters of the Soho Riots. I'm in the album cover photo, at far right just in front of the stage. The band played on borrowed instruments (other bands played the reception), and I remember them saying that they didn't think they had many songs appropriate for a wedding dance.

This is the most authentic, most emotional, most beautiful indie rock concert I ever saw. I wish i was there.

I found their music in 2009 and I have to say since that moment they have become the soundtrack band of my life

It's honestly amazing that this video exists with the sound quality it has. How popular were they at the time? This is like the earliest full concert available on KZread!

Dammmn they were so much better when they had this backing violinist. I actively find Kyle Resnicks singing off-putting and hes always SO forwards in the mix :(

I love the look of pure joy on Matt’s face after baby we’ll be fine. The happiest guy ever, when the crowd is chanting his lyrics after the song is over

Wow, what a gem. Bizarre to see them on such a small stage. Matt’s voice sounds so young here compared to these days.

I miss this version of the band. These sets and arrangements were amazing. I remember being 14 in 2003 and taking a bus and a train to San Francisco to sneak into a club to see them after Sad Songs came out. Hearing these songs now all these years later makes me feel like a kid again.

We were on a trip to France, and I told my wife that I wanted to go on a El Castell Embruix. She said: what is this place? Why go there?

You'll never get anywhere close to a set like this again. I like to think the 2014 Australia set is their best but it's really this one. Thank you for the upload and preserving the history of this incredible band.

Unbelievable band! Not any other band stands so close to my soul than the National does. Their sound, their chords, their words, their vibe, their everything! See ya in Amsterdam in October!!
