The Mystery of the Gamma-Ray Blob Around the Milky Way’s Black Hole

Ғылым және технология

In this episode, we explore a strange and amazing discovery of a blob of gas that is orbiting the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, and shooting powerful gamma-ray radiation at Earth every 76 minutes. We explain what this blob is, how it was detected, where it came from, and what it means for our knowledge and curiosity about the black hole and the galaxy. We also discuss some of the questions and implications that this discovery raises for future research.

Just a bit confused here. If the blob gets destroyed every day, where does it come from?

I agree it is confusing, if the blob only lasts one orbit before it is eaten, how are we able to keep seeing it? Does a new blob form after the first one is destroyed? If so, then the the title of the video should have been "The Mystery of Gamma-ray BLOBS Around the Milky Way's Black Hole" BTW: Has anyone else noticed that these videos are narrated by AI?

Not only that, but how come there is such regularity, i.e. every 76 minutes? It's as if we are watching the same event over and over, because the black hole is "programmed" to reset the time every 76 minutes! 🫣

The blob is destroyed every orbit, probably the same way some stars are that orbit the black hole in eccentric orbits whose perigees come too close to the black hole: they cease to be spheric stars, they extend like ribbons of superhot plasma at tremendous speeds, to recondense into spheres at the apogee and repeat the process. There are some fascinating videos on that phenomenon.

The blobs of gas are accompanied by blobs of Liquid Dark Matter when the gas temperature is high enough and the equivalent gravity low enough the LDM phase transitions explosively outside of space time which boosts the electrons to even higher temperature and energy while accelerating them outward.

@@justinwalker4475 Asserting speculation as fact is not on. There may be some astrophysicists who like and support the idea, but it is not proven, and may not even be provable, so it is not a fact. It's not even a theory in the scientific sense, since it is not testable. We don't know what dark matter is, or indeed anything about it save that there's something we can't see that interact with 'normal' matter only gravitationally - thus we don't know that it even /can/ have a liquid phase. Also, I would argue that "transitions explosively outside of spacetime" is also a completely ludicrous clause.

You say the blob orbits Sagittarius A* once every 70 minutes. You say the blob emits a pulse of gamma radiation once every 76 minutes, when it faces Earth. How does the blob face Earth at a different point in its orbit every time? You say Sagittarius A* rips the blob apart after one orbit. Since it isn't there after it's first orbit, it can only have ever emitted one gamma radiation pulse at Earth. However, after twice mentioning the blob's destruction after a single orbit, the remainder of the video goes on like the blob is still there after it is ripped apart. This makes zero sense. I've said it before: NASA is in your channel name, but I don't think you have any connection with the actual NASA.
