The mystery of flight MH370 | Inside Story

How can a modern airliner with 239 people on board simply disappear?
Jane Dutton speaks to Mike Daniel, managing director of Aviation Insight, a licensed pilot and former accident investigator; Chris Yates, an aviation security and safety consultant; and David Tang - a solicitor and specialist in Aviation Law, who is representing families of passengers on board the Malaysia Airlines flight.

Since you know so much about the MH370 case, why don't you tell the world exactly where the plane is presently located? Be sure to specify everything in terms of latitude and longitude. BTW, if you had spoken up with your inside knowledge, several hundred millions of dollars could have been saved, and a lot of families spared much grief. Why did you wait so long to share your explicit information?

Almost 3 years now after the tragedy, unless we have solid evidence, we have nothing but speculations. What is baffling is that the plane's transponder was switched off either deliberately by the pilot or due to power issues caused (maybe) by a fire in the cockpit or underneath it. The plane veered off course heading west in the opposite direction, passed Malaysia east to west coast, spotted twice by a military secondary radar (as an unknown flying object) and did not deploy fighter jets to intercept, which is the international protocol when a plane goes missing! Why didn't the Malaysian authorities do anything for the first 2 hours remains another mystery worth investigating!

After examining a flaperon of the plane that washed up on Reunion Island, they found out that the landing flaps must have been extended before the plane ditched in the Indian Ocean. The only possible explanation for that is: one of the two pilots deliberately sat the plane down on the water. Therefore, a pilot highjacked the plane.

I think this myself, im no expert, but it probably uses quite a few amps to push a strong signal out there, or through water. I remember my brothers mains CB radio hooked up to a 400watt burner, which as it happens isn't permitted in the UK, but he could toggle it on and off. I couldn't imagine how long it would last on batteries. I guess you strike a balance between size, weight, cost, duration. 30 days is a long time. It's only after 30days we complain about the duration. In any case if there are survivors there won't be after 1 maybe 2 weeks max and that's really pushing it. I just hope that eventually with deep sea re mapping with higher resolution will show MH370.

bbruce995 Commercial jets cannot be controlled remotely. At best you could try to fool the auto-pilot by uploading flawed maps while on the ground, but the crew would immediately notice such an attempt as the plane turned away from its path, shut it down and pop the circuitbreakers. The fact that the transponders were shut down essentially proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the plane could not have been controlled remotely. No signals, no control.

Usually all modern airplanes do transmit Engine data live to base station for live engine monitoring. so along with this adopt a technology to feed cockpit environment with a camera with audio live feed to base station. it will give ground crew more clear visual to what a pilot is doing inside during flight. and if any pilot is intentional in doing any hijack operation or going for suicide operation then disable all his flight controls. and some body from ground should be able to safely land aircraft remotely... aviation authorities need to think in this direction

Diego Garcia... where the strategic stealth bombers are kept has not a radar suite that can see a plane changing its trajectory, disconnecting its transponder... and is not tracked from that moment on? Do you fools understand the suite of electronics, communication and interception capabilities this island has installed? do you really think that one of the major US force projection weapons platform, B2 stealth fighter, will be there parked with out continuous 360 degrees sea, air and space scanning? That would mean, you could modify a military plane to look and transpond as a civilian airliner and sneak close enough to Diego Garcia to launch tactical nucelar warhead cruise missiles. Get a plane and try to that that.. Im sure that before you are 200 nautical miles from Diego Garcia you will be locked on and engaged if you dont start talking real fast saying who you are, what are you doing there and where the hell are you going. I dunno what happened, but Im sure in Bomber Command in Diego Garcia they know EXACTLY what happened, why it happened and where is the plane. For sure. And if anybody tells you otherwise. they lie.

That the first Boeing 777-200ER 9M-MRO of flight MH370 was a test aircraft on which they worked out how to blow up and simulate the effects of objects allegedly possessing high kinetic energy, striking elements of an anti-aircraft missile, in the absence of such, because they flew out of the cockpit itself and not from a non-existent anti-aircraft missile.

The pilot cannot disable the radar blip, although the pilot can disable the transponder, which means that there will be no identification transmission. Even without the identification, the plane will appear on radar, as an unknown. So, how did air traffic control lose radar contact, yet the military radar could detect it. And how could military radar positively identify a radar blip that air traffic control couldn't even see, if the transponder was turned off? And why has there already been an admission that the transcript of the last contacts with MH370 has been withheld from public gaze, if there is nothing to hide?

After listening to flight control logs from 9/11 you can see JUST where the mistakes were made by Air traffic control here. On 9/11 even our country fumbled a few hours total. We did how ever send up military jets to "escort" the planes & only was given the go ahead to shoot down the last plane if they got near the white house or state capital building. Even then the Pentagon had already been hit. I think this Captain used 9/11 logs to know exactly what we would look for later to even solve this crime.

It is physically impossible to water land a jet into 3 - 4 meter waves without a lot debris from the cabin breaking up. There were 3 - 4 meter wave in the southern Indian ocean when MH370 disappeared. The plane must be at an airport, along the northern route (if intact) or in pieces (if crashed). Who knows why or how? Why did 'experts' waste much time and resources looking where they knew the plane could not be? Maybe they wanted to map the floor of the ocean and needed a reason? I sense a conspiracy . . .

Transponders working properly wouldn't change anything,, because nothing could have been done to force the place elsewhere. The only way to be safe in such circumstances is to create some kind of program which enables some control of the plane besides the pilots, controlled by the controls within an airport. Most aviation accidents are caused by human error, thus, it would be really helpful if some computer exists that can take over the flight. I'm Greek by the way, and I remember like yesterday the Helios crash in 2005, caused by human error. Had some computer took control of the flight, the plane would not have crashed, or perhaps, a computer would have located the issue prior to take off. At no time did I say - nor imply - that the pilot taking MH370 somewhere and deliberately crashing it could have been prevented. Fighter jets could have shot it down elsewhere, but the location still would be a known. Read this carefully, several times if necessary, until you understand the message therein: If there had been operating transponders, the plane could have been tracked every inch of the way to its final plunge into the ocean or wherever. There would be little or no reason the crash site could not be pinpointed. Instead we have the opposite - several years later we have little to go on and virtually no idea where it is within several thousand miles. Okay?

@@spikey2740 On the contrary, I understood your message, I only stated my perspective My point is that it is irrelevant whether the transponder worked or not as well as the crashing site, from my perspective. It doesn't matter if the plane is found or not because, first of all, everyone is dead. Investigations have found the path of the plane, with the help of satellites. Had the plane landed someplace safe, these people probably still had a destination to go to, thus, they would have been found none the less eventually (strangely, the background of the passengers is not discussed in great matter) 'If there had been operating transponders, the plane could have been tracked every inch of the way to its final plunge into the ocean or wherever' I'm only arguing that the transponders working is irrelevant and in this case, not useful. Go find the plane using the transponder somewhere in the Indian ocean, would it change the outcome?. No. Even if the people and plane are found, they are buried within the sea. Of course I understood your message. I argue that since it doesn't change the outcome, what's the point of looking for transponders or the crashing site? There has been cover up (obviously), the pilot had plans to make this flight path, but it was impossible to know in the first place (by the way, Malaysian authorities did not discuss this matter further). There are many lessons that we can learn from this incident AND THUS avoid such incidents taking place in the first place. (Additionally, I just find it strange how no one talks about the political side of this incident). I love the fact that you changed 'dumb' to misdirected'. Okay?

I"loosely" call myself a writer. I have so many questions ....still.... The first one is that we are just now hearing that the government was/and still is a cesspit. If someone....say, a government, wants a 777, they cannot just go buy one at the local "airplane sto." We would have to turn to a slimepit source to get one for us. It is no accident that, for instance, that MH17 was on the other side of the world supposedly "shot down." Did that plane's fate follow MH370? I wonder who was on MH370, and MH17. How many other planes are "needed"? At what point will we begin to become curious about world business development? We may cease to buy and sell....we just kill off....or make them disappear....not a complicated thought, but workable. To Terry, below....I have issues as you speak, as well.

People just bear this in mind that the air craft was still flying after 7-8 hours. In any case there is two possiblity you either crash instantly or land pilot that wanted to commit suicede will not fly the thing for 8 hours and same goes to the hijakers? Stop fooling us

Allow the families to pick their own team of a couple private detectives, a couple lawyers and a couple airline and military experts. Say 6-10 total, paid for by government of all countries represented on flight. Allow them a non biased, fully funded and unfettered by politics effort to determine what REALLY HAPPENED.....INCLUDING UNRESTRICTED access to Diego Garcia by the appropriate unbiased experts. Let’s face it, they are owed that AND IF these governments are confident they are not involved they can hope to be absolved. Cost would be relatively nothing compared to what they’ve already wasted snooping in the ocean and finding nothing.

Regarding Flight MH370 Since there was no prove that anybody on board had any connection to terrorists or any criminal activity I have following theory: This plane was hijacked by unidentified entity, who knew our technology. They were able to shutdown communication and by grabbing airplane from the top, sharply redirect the flight to were they wanted to go. They moved the plane to lower altitude were less possibility of other planes in the area and flew to the most remote area. During the whole ordeal they opened up the top of the plane and moved all the passengers up to their ship and dumped empty plane in to the Indian Ocean.

This is an example of what happens if someone takes advantage of obvious holes in security which most of us don't even consider. To kill a plane load of passengers is mass murder so authorities won't address that. Homicide for the sake of killing isn't normal. Humans always want credit for thinking up their devious plot(s) but no one has come forward in this case. Is the pilot's home computer flight plan into the Southern Indian Ocean a document for murder or a madman's rantings?
