They could've just written her out of the film like she was attending a conference or something, and just focused on the father-son relationship between Rick and Alex. Changing her actor considering she has such a big role in the film felt super, super weird.

I think most people reacted the same way when they found out Rachel Weisz wasn't in this. Without her the chemistry isn't there. It makes the entire movie just feel off. Frasier has no chemistry with these new actors but put him with the Jonathan character and they're still fun. It's a shame because there are plenty of good things in this movie.

As much as it would be cool for Brendan Fraser to have a Resurgence with these kind of films, he injured his back in this movie coupled with his experiences behind the scenes in Hollywood it made him take a major step back from his film career and since then he's been doing great work but you can tell that his range of motion is still pretty Limited and now he's definitely in his fifties so unfortunately those days are done

I know some time has passed since The Mummy Returns, but I can't help but wonder when during that time did Alex lose his British accent, and when did he go from being Rick's son to being his slightly younger brother? 🤣 But then again, his mother went from being Rachel Weisz to being Maria Bello, so... Brendan Fraser stepped away from acting for many years after this movie, as I don't recall seeing him doing much else after this. His body was ravaged from injuries doing stunt work, so he had lots of chronic pain that he was dealing with. I don't know if he'd be able to physically get himself in the necessary shape to play Rick O'Connell again. I also heard that he had some emotional issues involving some Hollywood producer allegedly touching him inappropriately. So he stayed away from acting for a long time until only a few years ago.

I hope you guys read this! But I believe you guys should definitely watch the first ‘Scorpion King’ and then let it be after that. The first one is a pretty decent film! No bad cgi😂 However, in a recent interview, the fans asked if Brendan Fraser would do another ‘Mummy’ movie. He asked the crowd “Well do you guys want one”? or something like that, and of course the fans went wild. He said he would be willing to do so, as long as there is a fun way to do it because the movies can be challenging to make. Considering he did all or most of his own stunts! Although it messed his body up and he was blacklisted by Hollywood and had marriage troubles. Brendan deserves so much better and he’s been recently coming back. Even in his early 50s, I still think he has some left in the tank. I heard they were thinking of an Aztec mummy and it would be Antonio Banderas, but I don’t know how to feel about that😂

I also seem to recall that once the first one became the hit that it was Brebdan Fraser was contractually obligated to do a trilogy for Universal if they wanted it. None of the other actors had that agreement as they all were all mainly character actors at the time. Rachel Wieisz had won an academy award between the second and third installment and declined to come back. This resulted in Fraser not wanting to reprise the role but was forced too by the studio. I actually have a physical copy of this and have never finished it. Your video was the first time seeing how it ended.

The late 2000s and early 2010s was a time in Hollywood where they realized that there is big money in the Chinese box office. This film came out around the time of the Beijing Olympics in 2008, so it was at its most opportune time. Unfortunately, this resulted in many films in the next decade where films would pander to the Chinese audience and government in lieu of a well written story such as forced "Chinese representation", such as including a major subplot involving China, or China as the world savior. Transformers: Age of Extinction was another such movie that stuck with me.

I remember this movie being so terrible when I first watched it. Just as Star Wars fans felt about The Phantom Menace in 1999 when that was first released. But somehow this movie was even more heart breaking to me. I still only count the first 2 Mummy movies as my head canon and do my best to forget this train wreck. My ranking would be first the best, and 2 is the next best. 3rd doesn't exist to me!

I think the big issue with many 3-D films, like this one, is that there was too much focus on "making it interesting for 3-D," instead of writing a good story.

If I remember correctly the reason Rachel Weize didn't return, from what I heard and or maybe read. That she didn't want to play the mother of a adult. If that is true I have no idea. The special effects in this are a great improvement over part 2.

I actually like that they didn't make him a dragon in the end... in Chinese folklore, and in most Asian folklores I think, dragons are not monsters or beasts, they are wise creatures who bring humanity luck and control the elements. They are thought of as auspicious and divine. It wouldn't make sense for a movie based loosely on Chinese folklore to cast a dragon as a great enemy.

The real Dragon Emperor; Qin Shi Huang; was way worse in real life than in the movie. YES, he really did enslave, starve and bury his enemies, sometimes the poor starved living corpses weren't even fully dead before they were thrown in and literally paved over at his orders. Qin or Ch'in his family's name is literally the name for China today. He had his widowed mother's lover and her children by that lover executed in front of her. Also, the children of people he didn't trust were sent to his court as hostages to ensure parents behavior and to sample his food drink for poison. Wanted to live forever so he can conquer all of Asia and the entire world. Monstrous and paranoid in life, a demon in death.

Overall, this was enjoyable. What i did like was that it explored mummies from other countries. Only sad that Rachel didnt return due to the script not doing any service for Evelyn. Therefore his chemistry with the current actress was off.

No Weiss, no dice. To be fair to Bello I think Weiss bailed pretty late so the sets were already built and they couldn't change the script.
