That moment near the end, when Anck-su-namun leaves Imhotep and he looks across at O'Connell and Evelyn, makes you kinda sad for him, as he realizes that they have what he never did, which was pure love. Also, I love this movie and it's one of those rare occasions where the sequel is just as good as the first one.

What Rick and Evie have is true love, which is selfless, while sadly for them, Imhotep and Anck-su-namun really only had desire, which is selfish. I'm not saying that desire is bad, but it's not true love without selfless caring and willing sacrifice for the well-being of another. Rick told Evie to save herself, but she chose to risk her life to save his, while Imhotep called to Anck-su-namun to save him, and she saved herself instead. Their "love" couldn't be more opposite. To be fair to Anck-su-namun, though, it was she who earlier pleaded with Imhotep, after he lost his powers, to forget ruling the world and be with her instead, and he chose power over her. Why should she have risked her life to save him?

@MrOnetedify she knew at that point she was going to be killed anyways. Even if they hadn't killed the Emperor, at that time her willingness to be "dirtied" would have led to her death or at the very least imprisonment. Here, she doesn't "need" to die, and thus proves her love isn't a true selfless love.

Imhotep abandoned Anck-su-namun first when he chose to go after the Scorpion King, even without his powers, after she pleaded with him not to. Then he called for her to save him, which is selfish, unlike Rick and Evie, who were both selfless. True love is selfless sacrifice, not selfish desire. Imhotep wanted to believe that his and Anck-su-namun's love was an epic one for the ages, but it wasn't true love after all.

Ngl, i actually felt really bad for Imhotep at the end. Anak-su-Numan was pretty much the real villain in this movie. She USED Imhotep so that she can have all the nice things, and then she ends up abandoning him to die so that she can save herself. But she did meet her karma by falling into the scorpion pit. You also need to check out the "Scorpion King" (2002), it's a prequel which details the actual backstory and rise of the Scorpion King. And it's one of Dwayne Johnson's very first film roles, along with this. And happy birthday to you, BJ!! 🙌👏🙌👏🎊🎉🎊🎉🎈🎁🍰🎂

Tbh I believe in the theory that anak-su-numan really did love him in the beginning, seeing as she trusted him and wanted to be with him back when she first unalived herself as the pharaoh’s lover. But after he brought her back once but failed and she got killed ruthlessly. So she had already experienced death twice. Then she came back a second time in this movie and felt more scared to die. Imhotep was the one that had strong love for her and would do anything for her. But she got scared after dying so many times

Watch "The Scorpion King". It's a spinoff movie staring Dwayne Johnson about his character's origin story. It was his first leading role, and it thrusted Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson into Hollywood stardom. It's a bit more campy and a bit more whimsical in its action-adventure style, but it's still a fun, popcorn film...

I love the fight between Rick and Imhotep, as well as the one between Evy and Ankhsunamun. I also really felt bad for Imhotep when Ankhsunamun ditched him inside that pyramid...as least she met her karma by falling into that pit of scorpions. Autism fueled observation/side note: That snake that Evelyn kicked towards Rick is actually a milksnake. You can tell by the band pattern (red, black, yellow). If the band sequence was red, yellow, black, they'd have something to worry about, because that's the band pattern of the venomous coral snake. Also, real scarabs were actually just dung beetles, who actually lay their eggs in balls of giraffe, elephant and rhinoceros dung. Two bonus fact/opinion tracks: I think Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be impressed with Evy because of that sai twirl. When Jonathan says "Hang on, Rick!!", My first response every time is "I don't think he was planning to let go"

NEVER gets old!! This was The Rock's 1st movie. He gets his story told as well...The Scorpion King. It's ok. The last time I saw someone react to this movie, someone in the comments called out the beginning scene where the columns fall like dominos being a nod to the first movie when Evie knocked down the bookcases in the library. As many times as I've seen this movie, I NEVER thought about that at all, LOL!! The CGI of the Scorpion King isn't great for sure but that was 23-24 years so it could totally be redone with the advancement in software for an anniversary re-issue. I think that because it was the Year of the Scorpion THAT was the reason why Evie started having the visions plus the fact that she was in her "home" so all the "stars" were aligning so to speak. PYGMIES!!!!!!!! One of the best scenes, LOL! You feel bad for Imhotep at the end because EVERYTHING he did was for the love of Anck-su-namun, only to be betrayed by her in the end, so he willingly lets himself be taken to the underworld. There is one more with Brendan Fraser BUT Rachel Weisz isn't in it. They replaced her with actress Maria Bello because Rachel had just had a baby and didn't want to sign up to be away in China for filming with a few months old baby. I've never watched it but I know it didn't do as well. The one with Tom Cruise is a reboot.

If you didn't notice when Evelyn fell off the boat , that's what happened to her in the past life as well. Nefertiri inadvertently leaned too far over the edge of the balcony and fell to her death. Despite having perished, Nefertiri's soul was cast adrift into the currents of time to be reborn once fate deemed the time right to revenge herself upon Anck-Su-Namun. This is why Evelyn is a reincarnation.

Demogorgon, aka The Prince of Demons "Demogorgon towered a full 18 feet (5.5 meters) in height, his body at once sinuous like that of a snake and powerful like that of a great ape. Two baleful baboon heads, with blue and red faces similar to those of mandrills,[1][20] leered from atop his lumbering shoulders, from which two long tentacles writhed"

Alien/Aliens is a lot like these two. The first is more 'horror' while the second feels more action adventure. It's works for me, like Rick O'Connell's manners.

Happy belated Birthday, BJ Like you, I was fascinated with Egypt and archaeology. Imhotep was real famous back then; unlike the movie he was not a high priest, but a really smart architect ahead of his time. He designed a pyramid for Pharaoh Djoser and was revered as a God (which was almost rare for anyone back then who wasn't the Pharaoh). Anck-Su-Namun is difficult to remember haha "AH-knock SUE na-MOON". They probably could have thought of an easier name in hindsight but her name was creative. Another thing that you and Asia were discussing at the end was how Evelyn was able to see into her past life. In the beginning when they were exploring the tomb, Evelyn mentions she had dreams of ancient times and the visions are happening now when is awake. Later at their house before being kidnapped, Rick said her dreams started at the start of the Egyptian New Year, the year of the Scorpion; which is implied by Imhotep is the only year where the bracelet can be used to find the Oasis. Evelyn is deeply connected to her past life but I theorize her visions would not have started all of the sudden if it wasn't the Year of the Scorpion.

Imhotep's girlfriend is named Oksana Saloon. Just kidding 😉, it's Anck-su-namun, and most of the characters pronounce it like "Ah-nock-soo-nah-moon", with the main emphasis on the "nock".

Chronological order is the spinoff from this movie with the Rock (The Scorpion King). I think it was his first feature movie. I loved the mummy movies and the scorpion king when I was little in the early 2000s,,, the third mummy movie came out later and is called tomb of the dragon emperor

Love this film. Cheesy, funny and pretty intense in parts! That moment near the end where Anck-su-Namun leaves Imhotep behind is actually heartbreaking for him, even tho he's the bad guy for both these films, it still makes you feel for him! P.S. I wouldn't bother with the rest of The Mummy films, they're just not worth it imo.

Nice reaction. The third in the series is not bad, not the best, but it's entertaining. The remake with Tom Cruise is not connected to this trilogy, it was part of a Monsterverse of movies by Universal Studios. It's entertaining but very different. Please do watch The Scorpion King, a spinoff from this movie series. It's so much fun.
