With the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s understandable that every movie studio under the sun wanted to create cinematic universes of their very own. For Universal, that attempt came in the form of the Dark Universe. It didn’t work out.
Even with a superstar like Tom Cruise in the forefront, the movie raises a ton of questions. Like why did Princess Ahmanet need help from Set, the god of death, to take out a baby and a sleeping dude? How are two known artifact thieves still in the military? What exactly are the Mummy’s powers? Why is Doctor Jekyll so reckless with his Mr Hyde medicine? Why does Prodigium make it so simple for people to escape? Why hasn’t anyone destroyed the dagger or the stone?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to The Mummy! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

You know, I just realized what would've been totally awesome- for the escape scene, instead of having the mummy do an acrobatics routine; maybe they could've made her oodles creepier by emphasizing the whole 'undead' part by having her break her own bones so she could escape from the chains. Would've been a lot more disturbing than the feeling you get when hoping the Ukranian judge knows that a score of '10' is an option.

The Dark Universe is a brilliant idea. They could have started with Dracula: Untold and built up from there. The Mummy, Wolfman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon. All of them having there own movie then bring in Dr. Jekyll or Van Helsing and the team up movie. They could have gone Marvel but instead they went DC.

Bad writing. I feel like a lot writers put women in a story and are like “done my good deed”. How about make her integral to the plot rather than just putting her in there. It possibly can’t be that hard to just write a subplot with her in it that supports the main plot.

Ryan has done it again. I have decided to download them all into mp3 so I can listen to them in my car, not as funny without the non-verbal expressions but still good. I have noticed though, and if I can suggest a few things, there are no Star Trek Into Darkness / Beyond pitch meetings. And how about the first 4 Transformers and Jurassic park 2-3, if only to complete the series. Other movies I'd like to see TMNT, Robocop, Judge Dredd, Aliens. Take care.

It would even fit within the story. That version of Van Helsing is actually the angel Gabriel brought down to Earth, so he is an immortal (he remembers fighting the Romans in 73 AD and the movie takes place in 1888). If you ignore Dracula Unbound or whatever it is, you could tie this new Mummy and the old Van Helsing movie together with Hugh Jackman being the Nick Fury of the Dark Universe.
