INGREDIENTS:
🔹Orange Cake
▢2¼ cups (270 g) flour - plain, all purpose
▢⅓ cup (40 g) cornstarch
▢2¼ tsp baking powder
▢½ tsp salt
▢¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter - room temperature
▢⅓ cup (75 g) unflavoured vegetable oil - I use canola oil
▢1¼ cups (250 g) white granulated sugar
▢3 tsp orange zest
▢3 large eggs - room temperature
▢5½ tbsp (90 g) milk - room temperature, full-fat
▢½ cup (112 g) orange juice - freshly squeezed
▢2 tsp vanilla extract/essence
🔹Orange Cream Cheese Frosting
▢1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter - room temperature
▢4½ cups (570 g) powdered sugar - also known as icing/confectioners sugar. Use more for a thicker frosting (see note 4)
▢1½ cups (335 g) cream cheese - cold, firm type
▢1½ tsp vanilla extract/essence
▢2 tsps orange zest
▢1½ tbsp orange juice - freshly squeezed

    I made this cake last week and it was good. I probably should have taken it out the oven at 30 min but I was afraid it wouldn’t be done so I left it in for the last 5 min. Still came out good. I left a comment on your blog pg. My tweaks was adding an orange simple syrup for each layer and I added in pure orange extract in the frosting and syrup. Absolutely delicious! My next one I’m trying is the husband hate chocolate cake recipe. lol I’m the same-not a chocolate cake fan but I’m trying it for an Easter cake for the kids. Wish me luck.     @@zeenatsadiyah5159 Hi there :) I receive so many comments so it's really hard to keep up with them and reply to all of them sorry! Yes you can freeze the cake layers if wrapped well in 2 layers of cling wrap and placed into an airtight container :) let them thaw and come to room temp before frosting. Because the frosting has cream cheese, it's best not to freeze the frosting :) enjoy!

    I made this cake today without the frosting, and I can tell it was delicious. I poured in two different cake moulds, one round and the other one in a loaf tin. My children almost finished them. I had to warn them to save me some for tomorrow's breakfast. Thank you very much for sharing!

    I love watching you make cakes and listening to your lovely voice. Then I made your orange cake but it turned out firm and dense. I have always mixed in the dry ingredients with my hand mixer and the cakes have always turned out moist and soft. So I wonder if when I just hand folded in the dry flour, etc that is why it was heavy. I don’t know. Any ideas would be helpful. But I will try a different recipe because I love watching your videos.

    Hi dear, I tried your recipe and it came out to be yummy. Only problem was that it sank in the centre and was too soft to hold the shape. Hence, cracked a bit when I tried demoulding it. I tried your lemon cake recipe as well and it went too bad as it sank completely in the centre. Any suggestions dear bcz I tried both the recipes two times? Too bad because all your recipes are just yummy.

    Hi there! :) If you have a larger cake tin (about 10inches or so) then you can do it in one tin, but if the cake tin is around 8 inches, then I would recommend halving the recipe :)

    Hi there! Great question :D yes so it's mostly to do with texture and the amount of acidity in a recipe. I also try to use milk where I can (instead of buttermilk) so that the recipe is more accessible to people around the world. So if I feel milk on its own (or with vinegar) instead of buttermilk does the job, I go with that :) and yes technically you could add vinegar to this recipe but it's quite soft and very moist already so I would recommend leaving it out for this recipe :)

    Hello MK. Thank you for this video and recipe. I plan to make this. However I don't have 8 inch cake tins and plan to use a (9 x 5) loaf tin instead. But how do I adjust the quantity of ingredients so that I'm not using too much flour and too much eggs and too much butter? Hope you (or anyone who knows the answer to this mystery) can help.     Hi there! :) For that sized cake tin, 1x this recipe will likely be too much. I would recommend halving the recipe (or even making 2/3rds if you're comfortable with recalculating the quantities). When adjusting the recipe, I would recommend adjusting all the ingredients, not just the flour/eggs etc :) Alternatively, you could just make 1x the recipe and use any extra batter to make some cupcakes on the side :) hope you enjoy the recipe!

    this cake si sooooo good...I made a 1/2 recipe for 3 reasons A: we only have 2 people here that eat cake and a 2 layer cake would be too much for only 2 people eating it... B: as a single layer, we can just eat it plain. without the icing and C: I only have 1 x 8 inch round pan...I have lots of larger options, but didn't want to use a recipe for 2 x 8 inch layers in 2 x 9 inch pans because then the layers would be too thin.... anyway, a 1/2 recipe worked just fine

    Hi there! :) Technically you can do that, however the orange zest does add great orange flavor to the cake, so without it you will have less orange flavor :)

    Hi .thank you for sharing recipe t baked you vanilla and lemon then orange one its taste good but I have problem with them they so soft they almost break down. I ve been having this problem every time iam baking these cakes.

    Hi there! :) Sounds like the cake batter may just need a bit of extra mixing to develop more of the structure of the cake :) I would recommend mixing a little more at the end, and would also recommend using the gram measurements for accuracy if you haven't already. Hope that helps! :)

    @CakesbyMK u r most welcome. By d way, when I refer to ur full recipe in ur website, it was stated there that the 270g all purpose flour can be replaced by 300g cake flour. If i use cake flour, should I still put the 40g corn starch in? Thanks.

    The frosting came out delicious I followed your recipe to a tea. I think you messed up on telling us that the milk. The milk amount had to be different. I don’t think it did. I think it needed more milk to be moist. The moisture was missing. I used exactly what the exact ingredients of what you told me too. In this recipe it came out dreamy and delicious with the cake was too dry.

    Hi there! :) I felt that there was enough orange flavor, but also orange essence/extract isn't as easy to find in some places. You can totally use orange essence though if you prefer :D
