What I think is genuinely the most fucked up part of this is the fact that this game doesn't run at 60 FPS, it runs at 100. Meaning everyone's timings are thrown out the window.

Especially insane considering 2D Fighter Maker came out in 2002. Monitors running beyond 60hz still aren’t quite the standard today, I can’t imagine how hard it’d be to find one 2 decades ago.

this game is pretty much the biggest fucking meme and a spectacle to behold. both the dev and his friend group are practically immortalized in this god tier kusoge due to how nonsensical it is.

Dong Dong Never Die 2023 was actually released by the hardcore Chinese community (specifically lilihao), it and Judgment Day actually released at a similar time (if not the same week) by pure coincedence. Its a pretty neat contrast to Judgment Day.

I don’t have any insider info or anything, but I’ve always assumed that some of Akshon’s staff is Chinese Canadian (or some other type of East Asian Canadian), because their channel had at least one early collaboration with a pretty small Vancouver brand, and because (to my ears) I think their presenter speaks with what I’ve always affectionately thought of as “the Richmond accent.”

This game would've been peak if it got a US port back in 2010 and had Filthy Frank as a secret boss. Actually would've been a cult classic.

THAT'S THE STORYLINE OF DDND? that's amazing. I played this for the first time on a local tournament years ago and no lie, it was the most popular game by far. Kudos to the dev who revived this gem of the FGC.

The dev name Jiang Shi Kong Long stands for "Zombie Dino" Edit: It might have been Jiang Xi, instead of Jiang Shi, in which case, it would be 江西，a province in China

Jiang Shi = The hopping Chinese undead with the seal. Kong Long (恐龙; Kyoryu in JP, Kongryeong in KR) = Dinosaur. Christ, I just realized about that.

The construction worker dude is called "Jian Ci Lang", which is a parody name of "Kenshiro" from Fist of the North Star but written in Mandarin Chinese. Also, his super is apparently the "Hokuto Hundred Crack Fist" just like Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. Go to 15:14 and that's the name of the technique sprawled across the screen in Chinese

7:07 AAA companies knew this game would've been a hit that they had to release their games. If it weren't for them, we could be playing DDND 4 right now. The only way for this to happen is to send someone back in time to sabotage and delay the companies into releasing their mainstream FGs.

This sounds absolutely nuts and so in character for both Touhou and Higurashi fans. Sasuga my fandom and respect to Higurashi fans too.

I like when small developers just make silly game projects like this. And for a game that was made in a pretty primitive game engine and whatnot, those animations actually look super smooth, I love that.

Asura Cross, created by Korean smartphone game developer Gamevil (now absorbed into Com2uS) and pretty much delisted as far as I know

Dong Dong Never Die is basically the result if you put Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, The King of Fighters, Terminator 2 and copious amount of other popular culture references into a blender. And tbh I found myself had a lot of fun with this game thanks to its sheer silliness and insane gameplay even though it was never meant to be a good game.

I really love the passion that this project retains, may look bizarre at first, but certainly was some good times for those friends! Mad respect for all effort 🙏

this is what media should be all about, just some people making shit cause they want to. games with a unique charm are always remembered

I thank the SBFP Zaibatsu and the Doods for introducing me to this game and hope that it continues to be beloved even as the years pass.

As a person working with the program, 2dfm is indeed hostile, but with art skill anyone can make their first game with it if they try. The fact this got him a good job in the end is inspiring, but yeah most passion for games are dying out due to greed. I wanna have my own thing not work under someone else.

It’s not really a random name. The 2 main guys behind the game are Wang Qiang aka Jiangxi Dinosaur and Zhang Dong aka Dongdong.

Actually he made a post on the matter, before mobile games era, they were all getting off work around 1730 but when they started DDND 2, due to vicious development cycles for mobile games, they were getting off work past midnight daily. That’s how DDND 2 became a “miscarriage”, as he termed it. So they did have free time before.
