Your description of Portugal as bittersweet was so accurate! I went to Portugal two years ago in summer and it the first solo trip in my life. I went all the way from the north to the south, from Porto to Aveiro, Coimbra, Tomas, Sintra, Lisboa, Lagos, Tavira. I remember taking the train alone, sitting by the sea alone, by the Douro river alone, walking the streets alone, but I also remember the sun, the heat and the friends I made. I felt the most intense sentiment of loneliness and emptiness, as well as happiness and the feeling of being blessed. Portugal feels like life, it's always a mix of a mess of feelings and you never get to tell them apart. Beijos da China!

Theo I'm a theo too. I have done 9 trips over a month by myself all over. I loved europe. Went 3 times but South America is my favorite. Its way safer then they say. Ive never had a problem. My mental state on the European trips is tough but ive never felt it down south. They are more american then Europeans. They love to talk like us. Im in mexico now cause its open with no quarantine on arrival. The people wont let you sit alone. You take tours to the attractions and they will be full of ladies. The older ladies will brake the ice and then your part of the team. Ecuador and Peru are probably my favorite 2 out of the 10 countries ive been to. There are only 13. The high Andes with ruins including the 6th oldest civilization known to man right outside lima and natural things like the Amazon and super high mountains. Buses down there are awesome and cheap. Overnighter buses have seat that completely lay down 180 degrees. Flights in country are dirt cheap too. I flew 900 miles in chile for $28 dollars. Its about $40 from lima to cusco in Peru to see macchu picchu or a 22 hour bus ride for $30. See rainbow mountain if you think walking at 17,000 feet is okay. The National Park by huarez is amazing. Nazca lines. Chan Chan and many other places like arequapa are really cool. Its pretty cool there all year and the beach is mostly desert in Peru with cold water so not a beach vaca. Ecuador has Quito, my favorite place ever, banos de Santa agua. It has every eco tour you can think of for $20. The town water fall is right next to a hot spring and you can bath in both for $2. Its the banos in the cloud forest not the one by cuanca.

yuh, also forget the seafood - I'd go as far as to say that our Galician neighbours do it much better than we do (apart from sardines and codfish, even tho i don't really like cod). Go to Alentejo or Barroso (up north near galicia) and treat yourselves with some of the finest meats you'll ever eat. Truly underrated imo

@@jonytube i feel like it depends on the region tho. I'm not that much into seafood, but any ocean side city has amazing places to eat fish and the likes. Then you have the Minho region for those really strong dishes (papas de sarrabulho, arroz de sarrabulho, arroz de cabidela, good quality meat, etc.), that I - as a minhoto - will never eat outside the comfort and "safety" of my own home.

Americans seem to only know the super touristy European countries Italy, France, Spain, Germany, etc. Most Americans can’t even name one Portuguese city. It’s funny that when I told other Europeans that I prefer Portugal most of them agreed. It's mainly because of the fact that we dont dub most films and shows (which is a shame, I would love to joke about adult dubs) and because it's a subject in most schools since 5th grade (I've had English classes since the 1st grade but only started really learning watching English speaking KZreadrs). Even with this, there are still lots of people who don't know how to speak English very well (one group being of course the elders who had no 2nd language lessons or just french)

I think the spoiling part is going to be hard because of gentrification that is getting worse every year, mimicking other big European cities. One thing that it´s making me sad with the boom of tourism, Lisbon and Porto cities centers are starting to be tourism attractions and the local life is being pushed way from it, which is sad because what makes a city it´s the local people, not the tourists. But the authorities don´t get this, money talks, they obey.

But man, Portuguese people are really something else. Real salt-of-the-earth, genuine people, a little rough around the edges but absolutely lovely when you get to know them. Got to spend a lot of time in Portugal over the past 4 years, because coincidentally have 4 friends who happen to live/have lived there, and I'm always eager to go back. Truly a special place.

After that. the British took over and ruled our country until 1957, the year we gained our independence. So it took us 446 years of Western colonial rule before we are free from Western scumbag. Well not entirely, we have to surrender our financial sovereignty to the Americans who now controlled the world's financial system, if not US will sanction us if we do not submit to their hegemonic power and Western world order.

I feel like I'm the one over reacting but there is a pandemic and 8/10 people who's pictures I see online are not social distancing or using a mask. I don't want to go to the pubs, I just want a hug. The more people that go galavanting the longer I'm people like me will be sitting at home...
