I agree. They are underrated. I think the first time I ever heard their song wildflower I was about 10 years old and I never forgotten that song. Even as a young age, some adults songs just stand out, and this was one of them.

It's been such a long time. It's one of my favorites , can get a nut, wild flower, dream merchant, and many others. Motown wouldn't have promoted the group to prosperity too much concentrating on Diana Ross during this time.

Thanks for the story about New Birth. There was so much internal tension. Good question about being signed to Motown.🤔 Who knows. My favorite songs by them are Dream Merchant and Wildflower.

Due To The Lack Of Information About The Group That Was Available Via Internet. I Didn’t Want To Over Due The Music To Take Away From The Important Parts Of The Story Via How The Group Got Together/Broke Up/Problems Within The Group. I Cut Back On Using So Much Music Due To A lot Of Ppl Attention Span Being so Short and Saying I didn’t Cover This Or That All I Do Is List The Songs They Made Etc.

Due to the lack of information that’s out there via the internet. This was all the material I had to work with.

I think if New Birth would have went to Motown they would’ve been overlooked honestly. I love It’s Been A Long Time. Can we also mention that WorldClass Wrecking Crew sample that song too with Before you Turn off the Lights.

I grew up listening to New Birth, and then saw them in an oldies tour years ago. Yes! Let's just agree that all of their songs are great! Whether original, or remakes, New Birth always put their own original spin, and flavor to the songs. Unless you were familiar with another version, you'd be hard pressed to think anyone else but New Birth was the original artist. Check it Out!,Ciao!!!

This woke up very good video presentation covering the history of the band New Birth. I remember seeing them in concert in Savannah Georgia when they had released their album Behold We Are A Mighty Army. I enjoyed the concert so much. I think they should’ve gone with Motown records.

Personally, I believe that things would have turned out differently if New Birth would have stuck with Harvey Fuqua. Harvey Fuqua was responsible for putting New Birth on the map. My favorite song by New Birth is Wildflower!

I don't think they would have had a better career with motown. Look at how many groups motown let's slip through their fingers, The isley brothers, Gladys knight and the pips, the Jackson 5, The 4 tops. Motown was a machine that didn't necessarily make all the right moves🤷🏿

A good group but at that time there was huge competition from so many vocal groups. Unless you were signed to Motown or Philadelphia International Records with their brilliant song writers, amazing production values and record promotion you had to be really special. Sad for them but the music industry was very competitive in that era. Great video. 👍👍

Being on Motown could be a problem if you were one of the artists consistently getting overlooked by management- like Edwin Starr, JJ Barnes and Sidney Barnes

My favorite new birth songs are dream merchant and wild fire. No, I don't think going to Motown would not made much difference since they had so many groups under their label they may have been just over looked or not promoted as heavy as they do their other established acts

I don't really remember them but from what I have heard flowers they seemed a little different but not much but I feel if they did not get into the ego tesim and they focus on whatever the message was to there music they would have been better known because everyone does sound like they can sing or be lead it could be the reason why they had the problems plus Motown was changing around this time I feel maybe very early 70 and very late sixty then leave Motown wanted to many of there singers to sound white so groups like new birth would have a problem look at the Shirley museum dock Kelly prices Mary Wilson Mary Wells Jennifer Hudson's and holiday they don't last long unless they can blend or have a appeal of white folks so called the early sixty's and late fifty's music was changing you had Frankie lymon Johnny Mathis party labell sounded black and she lasted for a long time ray Charles did country blues soul rock a blend edda James sounded black maybe some speak to so called white folks so the message of the music would have to be focus on if in the late sixty or 70 would the key or sing disco all these people was good but new birth was mostly soul with some r & b of what I heard but they was not the spinners or the whispers good even great and yes white folks loved there music but not enough and probably had a better chance being just a men's group because it seems if a black male sings sounds black they last longer look at r Kelly Jeffrey Osborn and more but most groups that sounded to gospel like unless they could get the right music or message to the so called white audience you just not gonna last long Whitney Houston could control her voice and sang songs the so called white folks could deal with it's pop music if you understand the meaning but they could have lasted longer but I feel they would be still under the raidai.
