Besides the gun and drug charges, Chum was legit the smartest person in that room. The show portrayed him as this big dumbass, but he made some insane deals on watches and shoes, tried to talk Rick into buying the Pokémon collection that’s now worth like $500,000 for $30,000, and opened a candy store across the street and would actually work behind the counter, and used his fame from this show to promote it. He 100% made the most money out of all of them

Obviously Rick was never even interested in the thing so it would be pretty cruel to waste that guy's time & money when he could very well need some serious dough. Who knows with "reality" TV?

@@cinnamoncigarettes Eh they're not really lowballing. They're a pawn shop. They have to maintain a store, pay employees, and deal with the headache that some of that stuff could sit on their shelves for years before someone buys it. Larger things take up more shelf space. Its why the little blue target ball was the one he was willing to buy. Its small, looks pretty and worst case scenario someone may buy it as a Christmas ornament. Its just like when a buddy growing up somehow got 3 Charizards from the original Pokemon card game. Ya they sold for a shit load and would have made a 14 year old kid more money then he'd know what to do with, but only if he has a buyer that's willing to pay it. If he can't find that he takes like 1/3 the value of the card from the local card shop.

Here’s my Pawn Stars story. Me and my dad went there to sell an original Picasso drawing (yes, it was an original). They directed us to Brett Maly, their art expert. He has a studio just outside of town, and he really is the sweetest guy. He was able to authenticate the drawing for us, but told us that it was just a single piece of a much larger collection, and if we had the other pieces, it would be worth a fortune, but as is, the drawing was worth little more than $200. We ended up selling it at the shop for about the same price and used to money for food as gas for the return trip home. The whole time we were there, we never interacted with anyone on the show. There’s actually a large tunnel vision-like wall when you enter that looks like something painted in a mental asylum. It repeatedly warns you not to take pictures or videos of anything. They don’t want anyone to know that the show is just a show and that you won’t actually be dealing with the owners. When we did sell the drawing, the guy mentioned that if it was worth more that we could have been asked to appear on the show, but that didn’t happen.

Edit: I can't find a link to just the segment my cousin was in, but the episode is called "A Show About Nothing" from season 17. Basically, my cousin bought Patsy Cline's first record contract from a third-party vendor for like $100, got ahold of the producers of the show, and they flew him out to Vegas to be on the show. The contract ended up being a reprint that the record label would send to radio stations to be put on display -- which is still pretty neat, and it's for sure a collector's item, but it wasn't THE original contract so it's worth considerably less money. My cousin was on Pawn Stars, and it was sooooooo fake. They film on a sound stage that's just a replica of the actual pawn shop, none of the guys know anything about any of the items, the producers just give them notes about whatever it is they're looking at right before filming, the producers also decide when the "experts" are going to be brought in. I'll find the link and add it to this comment. He dealt with Rick specifically and said the dude was a total asshole before and after filming.

Dad took me to Vegas for my 21st birthday in 2011 and I was so disappointed the whole pawn shop was a roped off cattle call where it's 70% TV show merchandise and you are in this queue where you can't even look at the stupid pawn shop crap in the glass. I saw some props from the show I recognized and it was cool but like I like antiques and there was no way for me to spend a minute to even look at anything or be helped.. I did make eye contact with chum Lee he was actually there and he winked at me.
