Hey everyone! Just to make sure this is laid out here in the comments as well! The Commanders on this episode are based on the current EDHREC page on the most popular artifact commanders, so if one is missing that you believe should be on here, that is the reason. From what I have found this is the most concise way to make the base list of 20+ Commanders to start off when it comes to comparing them.

Breya gives you access to all the artifact colors, combos easily, and is a utility piece that includes 'commander removal' as an option. Should at least be A-tier IMHO.

I played Breya and won a ton of turnaments, she is hard to deal with. Then I sold my entire deck to try something, now it is worth triple the amount I bought it for..........

Alibou at D is doing her a disservice. The number of creatures that attacked are also counted as the number of tapped artifacts as the ability triggered (since an attacking creature usually taps, and mana artifacts can be tapped prior to add to it), so you can easily dish out 10+ damage to any target, and if you equip her with Grafted Exoskeleton you one-shot an opponent. She also couples well with any extra combat effect or cloner like Helm of the Host.

She also is so good with the new city on fire it lets you tap creatures you don’t want to attack with and triple her damage and with 14 tapped artifacts she can deal over 40 with just her triggerc

Alibou is fire. Throw in a lodestone myr and mcosynth lattice (they are cheap at the moment) And you can tap artifacts for free and easily get 14+ damage. . Giving artifacts haste is bonkers as well. . Even setting up your next draw, because he also scries is just icing on top. . There is a reason my playgroup calls him "Boros Scarab God.“

The fact that Osgir also gives you access to some solid token doublers in white makes it even crazier 😳

I have to admit it hurts to see The Fiddler himself Oswald Fiddlebender not be in the list. He might not be one of the most popular, but by all standards keeps up with everybody in the list besides Urza! The toolbox he gives for being a birthing pod for artifacts makes up for the fact that he's restricted by mono white too

I don't understand the ranking on daretti... This guy can reanimate ANY artifact, like, literally ANY. That seems to be worth a B in my opinion

Being restricted to only red imposes some pretty strong restrictions, I agree with B. However he is insane to have breya at a B. That's A or S all day.

I run an Urza, Chief Artificer deck and it really can overwhelm if our opponents do not run multiple board wipes. I routinely have 30+ power on the board that continues to grow and draw multiple cards each turn.

I actually have been researching this topic, so thank you for saving me so much time!

See what I really feel is the big miss is on Breya. What really raises Breya as a threat and basically S tier in my view is the colors she allows you to control. Being able to use White for Token doublers and some artifact synergies like (Temporal Steel) or the New Artifact Soldier creators like Myrel. Red lets you grab Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer and Mishra Tamer of the Mak Fawa and Black for Tezzerat Master of the Bridge ,Time Sieve and Diciple of the Vault. You get to use Urza in the 99.. So I really am not sure why she is ranked so low.

did the same for one of my variations for Breya - token creation and annoying combos. though a much more annoying variation for her is the eggs and restoration build: basically playing solitaire or freecell, where sometimes you don't even need to play her/place her in the battlefield.

Same. Access to those 4 colours opens up so many paths its maddening. She by herself already is a good setup for a artifact-sacrifice & creature-token deck. But with other artificers in there to buff your artifacts? The sky is litteraly the limit. One very fun combo i had this way was having Oswald in the Graveyard, get him as a Artifact-Creature with haste thanks to Mishra, Eminent One & sacrifice him to get any 3cmc Artifact And thats just one possible one!

To argue in favor of Breya at least going to A tier: Breya is one of two cards on this list that can have nearly all of these cards in the 99. Urtet is the only other and it doesn't really want most of these cards for Myr tribal. When considering a commander, I think color identity plays a huge part in it.

Thats before you consider the absurd number of efficient/synergistic combos you can have in the deck. Then you pile on the fact that even to this day its still cedh viable even though its not top tier there

Saheeli is the best! I will die on that hill! Turn 4 (or 3 if your lucky) you can potentially cast a colorless spell for free or reduce the cost significantly! Turn 5 or 6 dropping a nasty Eldrazi or whatever you want! The best thing about Saheeli is that she can appear to be a low threat until its too late. If you want to be really nasty (which I do!), run some indestructible lands or treasure spam, and start destroying opponents lands, cuz you won't need anymore than a couple lands to play even the juiciest sauce.

I am surprised that Silas Renn and Rebbec aren't on here. Just finished picking out all of the cards for the deck, asked some friends to help me test it out on Cockitrice. I ended dominating every game. I ended up not keeping the deck because it was just too powerful for them, but they are powerful commanders.

As a player who loves artifact decks, thank you for this.

Osgir should be an A at least. Being able to poop out 2 copies of an Artifact in token doubling colors is definitely a terrifying prospect. Sure, sorcery is a "problem" but there is more tha enough Haste enablers to make creatures go fast and doesn't affect regular artifacts

And being able to make Karn The Great Creator actually work is massive. I’ve seen the deck go infinite very easily and quickly with Karn as well.

Meria, Scholar of Antiquity is missing, unfortunately. I have made a Deck with her and it is pretty broken, she ramps in a similar way urza does, just not with tokens.

I think I disagree with you on Alibou, Ancient Witness. It is definitely a more niche strategy focussing on artifact creatures but it is SO good at it. The haste on it is massive and the other ability is both amazing card selection and great damage. Going wide with artifact creatures isn't difficult and not having to wait for the added value because of haste makes the card far greater than the sum of its parts.

Mishra Eminent one is minimum A tier as copying the right artifacts just can put you so far ahead in a game. Battlethopter I think makes it into the A tier as well or at the very least its Very high B+.

What would you rank Sai, Master thopterist? I personally think its a fun deck that could very easily become a combo deck with Senseis Top.

I played against the precon Urza, turn 5 the dude had like a ton of 15/15 tokens and everything was 0 cost, it was cool to see and didn't feel unfair.

bought if for a friend getting in to the game and he kept being an issue before upgrades. Now we all keep an eye on him. Great starter deck or deck to upgrade

There are two really good Artifact Creatures off the top of my head that combos with 'Urza, Prince of Kroog'. In both cases they make use of a Sacrifice outlet which generates two colorless mana for example - Ashnods Altar, or Krark-Clan Ironworks. 1/ The first one is 'Phyrexian Triniform' after using Urza's coping ability on the Triniform you then Sacrifice the copy of Phyrexian Triniform and its three 3/3 tokens generating eight colorless mana. Then repeat for infinite tokens and infinite colorless mana 2/ The second one is 'Su-Chi Cave Guard' in much the same way as the Triniform you use Uzra's copy ability on Su-Chi and then sacrifice the copy to your sacrifice outlet this nets you ten colorless mana (Two from Sacrifice and eight from Su-Chi death trigger). Then repeat for infinite tokens and infinite colorless mana Another combo that works well is Training Grounds, Lightning Greaves, Chromatic Orrery when combined with Urza, Prince of Kroog but I'll live that one for you all to work out.

Hi. I have a deck of Alibou. Is really poqerful. And can be a control deck because you can plan in advance what to do with the scry and also you can start killing creatures and or planes walker with the direct damage so you can control the board !

I have a shorikai artifact control deck and I honestly think its pretty powerful, but I guess most people build him with vehicles in mind primarily.

I play glissa and she is powerful and has so many different ways to play and build her. Mindslaver wins are common with glissa

Is there a list form of this somewhere? I watched the video and now want to easily go back and research these...

I can't believe Trazyn isn't in the top 24 Artifact commanders. He's first, by a long shot, in my to-build list. He'd be a "B" on this list (?)

If you can keep Trazyn alive (if that's a good expression for a Necron) he is very strong, way stronger than Imothek.

For megatron, you can flip him from tank to robot back to tank form in one turn. Attack, sac an artifact, deal damage. At beginning of your second main phase, flip him back to tank form to generate colorless mana. Actually a really solid commander when paired with damage doublers or repercussion to act as a “trample” effect for his flinging artifact damage.

Just giving him death touch to fling a random 2 drop to let him get through with his robot form is by itself 8 mana. Had a fun game that just went off the wall with life swapping a while ago.

I have several of them all in my myr deck. Alibou on the field while using myr battle sphere to attack gets nasty

It probably wouldn't be a very high tier but I'm a fan of Losheel, Clockwork Scholar. With enough ways to ETB artifact creatures at instant speed, be it blinking/flicker flash or other, it can draw a bunch of cards while also encouraging a rather aggressive gameplan by protecting attacking artifacts

Ye, but the "once per turn" really does limit it compared to other artifact commanders. And additionally, mono-white is not a really great color for artifacts imho

what about the elf that is the green red urza?

My main man Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer is a amazing Artifact commander. Creating a 2/1 myr token every combat, giving all tokens you control hast, and having the ability to change all tokens into another token you control can be mental if you can create a token of a let’s say blight steel colossus, he has the ability to go wide easy and tall just the same, And if you can play a card like mirror box to get rid of the legendary rule then make a token of Brudiclad it will get out of hand very fast, throw in a cyberman patrol and now it will hurt more to block the dozen 2/1 myr swinging at you, Brudiclad is in Izzet so there’s plenty of ways to create copy’s of stuff, and the fact he’s a 4/4 ain’t to bad. He’s absolutely solid as a commander. My favorite deck I own by far, Brudiclad is so much fun

How do you not include Trazyn the Infinite? Love your vids!

I used to merc with Breya and could win within a few turns depending on how this ramped out for me. Before Paradox Engine was banned, I could basically play into a combo and win without passing the turn. I don't like to play like that anymore though, it gets boring to win so easily.

How is Oswald not in the top 24 artifact commanders? That seems absurd!

I do believe Breya should be up to at least A tier she gives you choices of 4 colors so you get 4 colors of tutors and board wipe wise white is really good for it

Teshar ancestors apostle is nutts And Arcum Dagsson deserved a shout out.

I'm always disappointed that Muzzio and Drafna aren't on lists like these; I've made both and they're great fun, the former for cheating in stuff like Blightsteel and the latter for just spamming the board with fun stuff.

Emry and Jhoira should be S Tier. Commanders which can consistantly kill player early, or hinder the enemy consistently and win surely later with some win-con.

jan jansen chaos crafter is another great one to consider!

Urtet is S in our hearts. But honestly one thing that I think pushes Urtet into B tier is how fast the deck rebuilds. I had a game where I was board wiped by every one of the other three players. Had my board back as the biggest threat in two turns or less. When paired with cards that make them all mama dorks like using urza, lord high artificer or just pushing out a few Myrs with a anointed procession I always had a way to come back fast because his diverse amount of effects just synergies well with so many effects. Like mystic forge and a foundry inspector. I played into my deck so fast I had at least 10 myr tokens a turn. Mechanized production in this deck grabs a win really fast. He himself may not be super strong but he leaves a lot open for sure.

What about Meria? She’s Gruul Urza LHA so you get bonus stax effects like Blood Moon that don’t hurt you because she makes your artifacts tap for G

this is true for casual players but for more competitive decks the best aftifact commanders would be commanders with multiple colours like breyna to give you almost all the infinite combos or cards that give value with no drawbacks like gandalf giving flash and doubling effects or urza reducing all costs by one or jhoira drawing a card for playing your deck so for competitive play I would say 1. jhoira wheatherlight caption 2. breyna etherium shaper 3. gandalf the white jhoira gives you many infinites with blue and drawing helps you get to them way faster you just have to run more ramp then a usual deck breyna gives you the blue engine gives you a good amount of ramp since you have access to 4 colours and you have access to almost everything artifacts artifact protection remmoval board wipes and more since you have 4 colours it will just be much harder to build the perfect deck trying to find the perfect ratios but artifacts help with that giving access to a lot of colourless mana gandalf doubling everything negates not having blue since the blue engine reduces cost and draws more cards but doubling the effect of a 3 mana card is better then reducing the cost of one plus flash can give you many negation options to stop your opponents from board wiping note: urza high lord artificer can be good for infinite mana combos but there are so many good ones its better to use jhoira to draw the cards you need for the infinite since its better to have card draw to draw your deck with ramp removal and infinites then to just have ramp

Strongest- Glissa the Traitor. G/B is so strong and she can be built in so many different ways with artifacts. Also mindslaver can be absolutely abused force swinging into glissa to trigger a block and grab mindslaver again. With Karn you can have an entire stock of artifacts that can own situations at a table.

Shocked Jan Jansen isn’t on here. He’s my favorite artifacts boy. Such value.

So if you're wondering who we'd rank them, I can only give my perspective on this. So I'd have a few criteria for how to rank them. First, does the commander have card advantage? Is that advantage easy to use or repeatable? How many colors does the commander have? What colors are the commander? Is the commander a combo piece? Is it a one card combo? 2 card combo? 3 card combo? How many pieces does it need to function? At what point of the game does the commander start to generate value or combo off? For me, when talking about artifact commanders which is the best color for them? Well its Red. This might come as a shock to some people, but red is exceptionally strong with underworld breech, Dockside and a few other good synergistic cards. After Red its a tie between blue and black with white slightly behind. Green is the worst color and if you're colorless and have no other options I consider that to be a serious weakness, like Actually if I was going to assign points a colorless commander would get negative points just for being colorless. It would need to be a legendary creature version of Mystic Forge for me to consider giving them positive points because I do believe being colorless is that much of a detriment. Breya IMO is what everything else should be compared to. I'd say she's the bouncer for S tier if you're not better than her you can't get into S tier. And I don't think most of these are better than her. I'd say none of them are. I'd say Urza, Lord High Artificer and Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain are Equal to Breya. Why I say equal is because the decks that use Urza and Jhoira tend to be very reliant on their commander and can struggle without them where as Breya can rely on her superior access to colors to function without her since she's often the finisher to the deck. There is a Artifact commander I think is better than Breya and it wasn't listed. Magda, Brazen Outlaw. But I can understand if people don't agree with me. Breya can be difficult to play and build. She's got dozens of combos, a lot of colors and often you don't build her to be too reliant on artifacts in the first place so You can often be trying to do too much with her at once.

I dont understand Urets placement due to the massive combos it has. Or Megatron for it being used mainly in cEDH mardu artifacts

Saheeli the gifted i think should at minimum be B teir, I have own games with that artifact deck. You have me interested in a mono white artifact deck now though. A reason to build mono white i guess.

Here's a new fun Artifact Combo you can use in any Artifact Deck: COMBO - 'Umbilicus' with 'The One Ring' 1 - Have Umbilicus on the Battlefield 2 - Cast 'The One Ring', because it was cast you gain protection from everything until your next turn. 3 - Then at the beginning of your upkeep tap The One Ring to draw a card. 4 - Still at the start of your upkeep you don't pay the life for Umbilicus to return a permanent you return The One Ring to your hand. 5 -Then just repeat this process. Have fun watching your opponents have to choose in their upkeeps to either take two life or return a permanent. You can add Darksteel Forge alternatively something that provides the Umbilicus with hexproof or shroud as a way to protect it.

Im new to the game. Me: i wonder where my first artifact commander, gimbal, will rank! Ah.

I'm surprised Sydri galvanic genius is not on here or sen triplets, sydri makes artifacts into creatures and gives artifact creatures death touch and lifelink while sen triplets just shut down your/an opponent when on the battlefield

Megatron with deathtouch and sacrificing a random 2 drop artifact and congrats on getting a minimum of 8 mana to use on an x spell. That’s not getting into fun shenanigans like life swapping

Expect to the archenemy of the table, it doesn't matter how "casual" you build him, he generates a major amount of salt. Make sure you have alot of protection and keep 5-8 slots open for counterspells and make sure you slot in lightning grieves

Wouldn't Alibou be really good? I'm a bit new to Magic, but 1 damage and 1 scry per tapped artifact for free just off of a single attack sounds really powerful, even if you have some weak artifact creatures.

My thoughts: Osgir up into A Tier, Emry up into S Tier for sure, Liberator down into C Tier, Urtet up into B or maybe even A Tier, Chiss Goria up into B Tier, Gandalf down to B Tier, Alibou up into C Tier maybe even B Tier. With the rest i absolutely agree.

Breya is really just a great artifact commander because she's in all the right colors. Nothing she does is super broken. I think B or A is about right.

Definitely feel like Padeem should be on the list

You should do Grixis commanders next

And here's me using shorikai as a commander in my artifact control deck XD not even on the list

I like Teshar as a Commander too

I don't understand why urza chief artificer should be on "C". With white, blue, black he already brings very good colors with him. Even if he leaves the game several times, he rarely costs more than the three colored mana due to the affinity. The fact that he simply brings a 0/0 construct in each round, which becomes very powerful very quickly, is just strong. Definitely don't see him on "C".

I think for someone too rate a commander they should actually play the commander them self because this list is all over the place

Animar isn't really specifically an artifact commander, I'd say cheating in Eldrazi is far more popular with Animar.

Animar isnt an Artifact commander. Sure you could build with artifact creatures but really Animar is just a creature based commander deck.
