Man literally cannot sleep more than few hours each night

The part where Guts kills the Count and leaves his daughter with literally nothing left to live for was one of the craziest and most thought provocing parts of the story. She says she's going to kill herself and Guts just tosses her his dagger and says "well do it then". He doesn't do that because he is evil or edgey. He does it to save her life. He knows that just like himself, this poor girl had lost everything including the will to live and became broken. So because he didn't know any other way to help her, he turned her into something similar to himself. He gave her someone to hate the same way he hates Griffith. He gives her an enemy worth seeking revenge against. A reason to live, even though it will be a dark life. So she decides not to kill herself but instead she swears vengeance against Guts. She is now a struggler the same as him. Driven forward by hatred but still living to fight another day with the potential to one day make herself whole again. It wasn't the right thing to do. But Guts himself was broken. It was all he could do. As he walks away he breaks down into tears knowing he had just created a dark, broken soul. None of this is spelled out for the reader. It's something that at first glance seems like an edgey dick move. But once you think about it the real message becomes clear. That is why Berserk is the best story ever written.

Blue Thank you. I miss when not everything was not decided by plot armor. Looking at like HxH or one piece: When Luffy fought Enel, he didn’t win only because of being rubber. But due to Enel’s god-complex. What would happen to you, if you could read-minds, destroy countries, not physically be touched. Then suddenly, you were touched. You used your power to it’s limit, having no effect. Everything you’ve touched is effected by you. You don’t comprehend there is even a material uneffected. You have no reasons to try to kill this thing. To waste time. You would just leave. Especially after finally finishing your plans, that go beyond that world. HxH every where they get costs lives. No one is randomly revived or safe due to plot armor. There were justifiable reasons. Look at Gon. He achieved his goal. Is he needlessly in the story anymore? If you read chapters all at once instead of week per week. It changes a lot. But if you look at older one piece compared to more recent. There isn’t just plot armor. Writers before, had to get deeper because they depended on the re-read. They could only sell volumes, if they were popular in magazines/ showed things, without explaining. So the second time read, was unique as well as the first.

Both Guts's and Griffith's characters are genius level depictions. Kentaro Miura has made one of the greatest stories ever. His understanding of how to weave it up like that is absurd. Such good ideas.

I understand that one of the big things in art is creativity, but to create an amazing story with amazing art, like Kentaro Miura had, is god-like. It's one of the reasons, other than how good everything about it is, why Berserk is my favorite piece of media ever.

I dunno man, Sho Fukamachi from Guyver is pretty damn fucked up too. I'd say he's a competitor for "Worst Life Ever" LOL > Mother died at an early age when he was a kid so he had to struggle living with just his dad (but at least his dad was a good dude who loved him) > His entire high school life had to deal with unrequited love from his crush > Eventually finds the Guyver alien bio enhancing unit and pretty much gets alien tentacle raped > Chronos pretty much took away his entire life. Lost his school, his friends were killed, some even used to blackmail him on several occassions > As far as losing body parts, he's pretty much been dismembered in so many different ways. Had his entire brain ripped out of him 2 times causing him to go unconcious, lost an arm and several other body parts ...oh did I mention he died 3 times over? Often time in the most brutal of ways and also being completely disintegrated! > Oh remember that last bit of family he had left? His dad? Yeah, he was pretty much forced to kill his own father and became traumatized for it. > Oh and even better! The organization he was fighting against ACTUALLY WINS and TAKES OVER THE PLANET! >He has the entirety of humanity turned against him having him seen as a terrorist when he's actually the good guy! >After Chronos takes over X-Day he's pretty much forced to go into hiding while his best ally pretty much becomes power hunger and turns against him.. > Who knows where the "curse" of the wielding the Guyver will take him in his entirety of life. It supposedly slows down aging and/or makes you practically immortal... he will probably be subject to losing the ones he loves over time. Berserk literally helped me find my will to live when I read it. I have lived an extremely difficult life that has only really started to get better in the past 2 years, and Im 18. Literally every second of my life up until a couple years ago was filled with pain. I have many traumatic experiences in my past and various mental illnesses I was born with. I relate to Guts far more than anyone should, but that is exactly why Berserk saved my life. It taught me that no matter how much my demons try to kill me (mental illness making me suicidal), and no mater how much harder life may feel for me, the only possible way I can ever see my life improve is if Im there to do it with my own two hands. I can't kill myself, or quit fighting, because if I did it would make every ounce of pain I've been through worthless. I too have been branded for sacrifice, to the point where Im soon getting one tattooed on my neck, and that destiny, to be devoured by my demons, is a destiny I will defy until my dying breath. To end with a lil meme Mental Illness: Do it, kill yourself! Me: Kill me yourself, you coward!

@@CasulsGittingGud maybe in SAO it's possible. It's clearly not a normal rpg, they have no magic ( rip magic) and through the nervegear they have full control over their character. They could dodge like crazy or attack points to prevent them from attacking. It could also be that he is a higher level than the boss. He wields a sword that is the strongest monster drop and got a sword with the same or higher stats from liz and with dualwielding he basically attacks with 2 of the strongest weapons in the game at the same time. His skills could also have a high level and I guess that dumbass army could habe done a bit damage before. Needless to say kirito had like, 1 hp at the end. (Main character survives at the blink of death like in many anime cliche). He is considered the strongest player, thats why he even has dualwielding. When he met silica he was like, level 78 i thinn it was and that goat dude was the boss of floor 75 or below i think. He could very well have been on a even higher level and if SAO allows so be even over level 100

@@_simon.s_ Except dying over and over again is suffering. The world of dark souls may not be as greusome as Berserk, but death will never be a release. Instead you will find yourself fading away with every death, a bit of yourself lost forever. Over and over again you will fall until you are little mote then a husk of a man - A hollow. It might take a week, it might take a few years, it might take so long the world itself crumbles to ash, but you will eventually lose yourself in dark souls.

Let's just say thay Caska is the human version of Daisy, a very important part of the Doomslayer's life. But differently from Daisy, Caska hasn't died but scarred and shamed and it was traumatic that Caska became a infant state of mind because of it... Griffin is the top 2 on a top 3 list right behind the dude from Fullmetal Alchemist that chimera'd his own daughter and Estarossa in number 3

Even though Guts is a fictional chacracter, everytime I'm feeling down, hopeless and giving up on something I always think of Guts and suddenly I'm filled with newfound grit and determination. If Guts can keep going, so can I :D

Most anime creators as well as mangakas DO know Berserk and acknowledge the author as one of the top if not the BEST among. I bet most of them are fanboys/fangirls of his work. Just like in any other business and field significant people get the most acknowledgement among the rest. Miura won awards for his work and he inspired Dynasty Warriors and Dark Souls.

I like how he used the old "don't judge a book by its cover" thing. After seeing him wear the Berserker Armor he looked completely demonic where as Griffith looked human and angelic. (Or atleast when he isn't in his Femto form.) But that's another thing. Guts looks like a demon until he takes off the helmet and Griffith looks angelic until he shows his true form. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving.

Berserk possesses one of my favourite character features, where the character representing darkness & dressing like a monster is the good guy, while the being of pure white & appearing as an angel is the true evil here. The irony in Griffith becoming a beacon of hope for humanity after the stuff he's done is so well written from a story perspective. It's even mentioned during the eclipse when Griffith is showed just how much carnage and death he caused to get where he is, and that he embraces the deaths of people he commands if it means reaching his dream. It's especially apparent when it comes to what he did to the Band of the Hawk members, traumatizing and handicapping Guts and mentally destroying Casca because he lost his hold over Guts and lost Cascas worship, like a child throwing a tantrum.

4:52-5:23 What does that mean? "He isn't a human that became a monster to fight other monsters, he's a human that's constantly pushing himself to his fate-defying limits to the point that he can overpower monsters." That . . . pretty much describes Guts' sheer willpower. Also, The Bat shares the same experience as Guts. Okay, look, just think about it-- they're both humans pushing themselves past their own limits to overpower their enemies, yet they're still overcoming obstacles that test their willpower. The fact that Guts is an OP character "done right" makes . . . *Rey*, from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, an amateur.

This video has done a lot for me personally. As a father, husband and veteran who is trying to get his life back together...knowing that all the shit that I've been through has made me the person who I am and I should be proud of that. No one is perfect and no one lives the perfect life...we all have struggles, but it's how we learn and grow from these is what makes us. Guts is the perfect example of a person who takes life by the balls. He's been through the worst and keeps coming out on top, but not without the scars. I need to embrace my past and be proud of my scares, take my Bastard sword and Cannon arm along through this thing called life.

I disagree with you on Griffith's perception of Guts as merely a valuable tool. Casca pointed out that Griffith took greater risks and acted without regard to himself in order to save Guts. What Griffith said to the princess about no one who merely follows him being his equal was perhaps Griffith's ideal, but in reality he personally valued Guts as comrade, companion, and friend. That aspect can also be seen when Griffith tries to justify the assasination mission he gives to Guts. He had no reason to justify himself to an inferior, to a tool, but to Griffith the way Guts saw him and his actions WERE important to him. When Guts hears what Griffith says to the princess about a person who can be his equal, Guts takes that to heart because he WANTS to be the friend that Griffith can look to as an equal, not knowing that Griffith, deep down, already did. When it comes to the duel that sees Guts defeating Griffith for his freedom, Griffith is destroyed not merely because he lost his idea that he was the best, not merely because he lost a powerful tool, but because he had not realized how much he counted on and valued Guts' presence by his side. Griffith didn't understand his own feelings toward Guts, and so was thrown for a loop when that presence was gone. This is the heart of Griffith's internal conflict during the events of The Eclipse. He teetered on the edge of making the sacrifice up until the point he saw Guts trying to save him again. At that point he realized that Guts was the only person who could make him forget his lifelong ambition. Guts was the only other person Griffith valued more than himself, and so Griffith's decision to cut out his humanity was the decision to sacrifice Guts.

Something that I noticed about the eclipse is that Griffith took away everything from his followers that he had given them. Guts had a family, and a purpose in the band. Casca had been given the tools to change her future, and the means to stave off sexual assault. She, and Guts are taken back to the point where they met Griffith, and are forced to experience the life that would have happened without him. It’s pretty cyclical.

I think... I came here thinking it was a pure Berserk video so finally I can praise Berserk by being one sided. But I guess I am wrong. Now I am agreeing with some Berserk fans while disagreeing with other Berserk fans. I'm with Guts' and Kirito's side.

Honestly if they did the anime like they did the openings and certain scenes(hand drawn) the anime would be so much better

on the topic of having a "perfect moral" protagonist i always think of the end of the lost children arc, a peaceful scene where Jill is watching over a mortally wounded Rosine and in stomps Guts hellbent on destroying this serenity and ending this wounded butterfly girls life. i always think that if you showed these few pages to somebody with no former knowledge of berserk or even that arc alone, Guts would 100% be seen as the Antagonist and i LOVE IT

Berserk x Nux Analysis my fav

The one thing nux missed here is guts giving up isn't an end to his suffering, it's a beginning. In the blackswordsman arc we learn that anyone with any connections to demon kind will go to the vortex(or hell) and suffer for the rest of eternity. We need to look no further than vargas, a weak old man who was simply working for the count before he found out he was a demon and ended up in hell when he died. Guts, casca, and the rest of the hawk(barring rickert) are all destined to hell.

I expected there to be more "R.I.P." comments for Kentaro Miura here by now...

RIP Kentaro Miura.

In my opinion, overpowered characters are the ones who can beat every enemy, including hordes of enemies, and they sustain few injuries because they are SO OP. I think it's kind of Mary Sue/Gary Stu kind of thing. Technically, the Doom Slayer may fit the bill BUT he's a video game character, and that's just how video game logic can be. Anyway, Guts defeats his enemies but he does often sustain many, even near-fatal injuries, some of which leave him exhausted and in pain. Over the years, he has sustained numerous scars, some probably from them not properly healing or being treated. He is willing to push through the pain to continue his fight, even if it means he may very well die at any point by simply NOT retreating. I mean, Guts cut off his own arm to try and save Casca. That's a serious injury, not to mention it permanently maims his body, but he refuses to give up. Now, his hair is turning grey, his face is tired, his hands tremble, and who knows how badly his body has been broken while in the Berserk armor. I think the armor may be the only thing keeping him from, well, falling apart and dying. However the armor is also causing his body to deteriorate, his senses fading (including his vision), and eventually, he may not be able to see, hear, taste, or feel anything. Without it, though, he wouldn't be standing now. Take into consideration Guts' messed-up life, how much he's lost, and you can't really say he's overpowered. Not overpowered in the conventional sense at least. I think he's motivated by his emotions, especially his rage and sorrow, and at times, it's because people he cares about are in danger. I think he's so used to pain (mental and physical), so used to surviving on his own, so used to fighting, that he cannot bring himself to surrender. He's been fighting to stay in the world since he was born from his mom's corpse, and thus, he won't give up the fight until one actually kills him. As for Griffith, he is practically overpowered in the traditional sense, BUT, as a human, he was a fast and thorough learner, acquiring exceptional skills for combat, wielding weapons, how to expert military strategies, and figuring out how people think and feel -- and how he can manipulate them. I think he may be a genius? I mean, he knows so much, and, for most of his life, did everything right in order to reach his goal. But his need for control and inability to accept defeat caused him to falter, and he made a terrible mistake (sleeping with Princess Charlotte). As Femto, though, well, he's basically a demi-god(?) and it's expected that he'd be incredibly powerful and nearly impossible to kill.

This is basically my thoughts. Calling Guts overpowered is like calling Anakin a Mary Sue. Sure, they both are incredibly powerful and defeat extremely tough enemies, but Guts specifically is always on the verge of death during and after every fight. He could have died early on in the battle with the two insect demons, and he could be killed by Void, and both would be perfectly consistent with his abilities. Its his sheer determination to survive and his ability to think on his feet that makes him victorious. Essentially, against modern soldiers with machine guns, the apostles would survive through their physique, Griffith would somehow make all the bullets miss, and the wizards would put up a shield, and they would destroy the gun easily. Guts, on the other hand, would be fighting tooth and nail just to survive,, let alone win.

Even though they'd probably join forces and become the ultimate demon-killing duo, I still wonder who would win in a fight between Doomguy and Guts.

Well, considering that Doomguy has an impenetrable armor, guns and almost, if not infinite stamina, I'd have to go with Doomguy. As much as I like Guts, he wouldn't be able to win against him.

@@XxSLaYerZzxX I wouldn`t be so sure if Guts wears the Berserkers Armour... also Dragonslayer is Pretty fucking op aswell… depends on which weapons DG can use… but if it were an unarmed fight I would acually place my bets on Guts...

Both are pretty equal in fighting strength in terms of ability it really depends on the situation. Both would be pretty on par, though endurance is something Doomguy isnt known for especially when explosive barrels are a threat to him no matter what.

Rest in Peace, Kentaro Miura. You wrote one of the most beautiful stories that I've ever seen. And I am sure many more share the same feeling. You are no longer in the physical world, but your legend will remain.

Guts is one of the most most badass and savage anime characters I’ve ever seen. I can see why he’s called “The Black Swordsmen.” He’s a real man lol!

Just want to point out: around 16:35 when you start taking about Guts and Griffith's relationship, one of the major things that causes Griffith to slip up and get caught was that he did *genuinely* consider Guts a friend, even by all of those standards. Guts was the single exception to his rule. It gets played up by the fans sure but Griffith outright loved Guts and him leaving the Hawks broke Griffith's spirit. The manga even shows that when he's having sex with Charlotte, he's thinking about Guts. It's extremely likely that if Guts never left, the Eclipse would not have happened, or at least would not have happened when it did and for the same reasons.

*_Just a sidenote regarding Shirou:_* He's been horribly mishandled in almost every single adaptation of Fate/Stay Night. He's not supposed to be "good for the sake of being good". His traumatic childhood experience and subsequent rescue by Kiritsugu completely warped his values. He was envious of how joyful his adoptive father seemed when he found Shirou beneath the rubble, saying "it seemed like Kiritsugu was the one saved that day", desiring to tap into that emotion after losing most of his self-esteem to survivor's guilt. The whole "I want to be a Hero of Justice" is really "I want to help people because it's the only thing I actively enjoy doing". This isn't some crazy unrealistic concept: _many people with low self-esteem believe that only by helping others can they help themselves._ That describes Shirou very accurately. The problem with most adaptations of the Visual Novel is that a) they lack his internal dialogue, which helps flesh him out as someone different from the "white knight" image and reveals more of his thoughts on certain matters, and b) experiencing the series "in chunks" instead of a complete entity takes away from Shirou's multi-faceted personality; in *Fate* he's heroic to a fault and his warped personality isn't questioned, in *Unlimited Blade Works* his ideals are clearly shown to be flawed and impossible to acomplish yet he continues to pursue them because that's what makes him happy, and *Heaven's Feel* takes it to the ultimate conclusion that all Shirou really wants is to be happy and will sacrifice his ideals if they prevent that; by experiencing all three routes, you get to understand Shirou on a deep level, but if you only experience one you'll get a very incomplete picture of who he is.

Great comment dude, bad luck most people won't read it. Really a shame, cause that Shirou line is the only thing from the video that ticked me off. Nux probably just wacthed the UBW anime and hated Shirou. Can't say I blame him, but after reding the VN, I have to say, he couldn't have picked a worse example for someone who's good for the sake of being so.

25neurus Actually, even in anime Fate UBW, Emiya is misunderstood by some people. Watch carefully of all his actions & history, he's more complex than people realized. Also, Heaven's Feel will massively delves deep into this. Only Fate Stay/Night first anime that really need another re-adapt & generally it's the most straightforward storyline.

Croz Raven I know he's misunderstood by many, he's a complex character, after all. I was just commenting that the Ubw anime didn't do the best job in adapting his character, making it hard, if not impossible to truly understand. The Vn has much of the needed development.

I hope after Ufotable adapts Heaven's Feel they'll adapt the Fate route and release a compilation including Fate/Zero and the entire Fate/Stay Night story in one collectors box. Very unlikely but it would help people get the full picture of what is going on. Another thing I hope eventually gets released would be a port of Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua for PC. That would be godlike.

BrokenMoonStudios I would prefer for Fate/Hollow Ataraxia adaptation (it really need some love) for a full anime series, meanwhile Fate Stay Night "fate" route re-adapt again in movie parts format (like heaven's feel) to make the story more solid & less dragging that mostly happened in series format. It might not official, but I thought we already have the FSN Realta Nua on PC with community english patches. I haven't played this version myself so I might be wrong. If Type Moon really want to remake or retelling the VN game, then I would prefer if they put some big budgets & partner up with game devs like Tri Crescendo (Tales of games) or Bandai Namco Studios or even PlatinumGames. After all, we're in a time of novel & manga series has a full games.

Most people miss the fact that the brand actually gives Guts more power, for the same reason he is surrounded by ghosts. He is in the spirit world, at least partially, allowing his emotions to be used as physical strength.

I have a feeling that Guts is somewhat related to Doomguy
