I was surprised that you didn't mention that you can touch the icon on the door handle to lock the car. Once my daughter pointed that out to me, I don't mind that it doesn't automatically lock as I walk away.

Just got back from a week’s vacation in mid coast Maine Near Acadia. Charged to 100% in Portland. Actually achieved 10%-80% in 18 min there. Drove 2.5 hours 150 miles Arrived at 40%. Used level 1 charger over night at our cabin. A couple of level2 sessions when shopping in Ellsworth and tapped into my in-laws Dryer plug twice for L2 when there on a non-wash day. (70feet of cables for that one). Regarding not locking on walk away…I plugged in at Schoodic Point and not only didn’t lock… I forgot to turn the car off for almost 2hrs. 😂 (Our other car is a Tesla) Tesla does have L3 infrastructure at least to Bar Harbor so once they open their networks that will make a big difference - maybe next Summer. On the return trip I started at 70% and made it to Portland with no trouble. All the best on your road trip to ME.

You are incredibly well informed and extremely sensible in your framing of the Ioniq 5 in the world of EVs. This is much appreciated and I only hope the ability to get this car (upstate NY) will happen sooner rather than later.

excellent content video. You mentioned a key point which is definitely necessary in any ev and is the ability to have a good trip planner built-in into the navigation system. Unfortunately Hyundai, Kia, Genesis don't offer this feature yet, we hope to have it soon in a software update. Another thing is the door autolock feature which could be also possible with a software update. Thank you for bringing these topics to the light so that Hyundai knows what our concerns are about their products.

Thanks for the information. Picking up my 2023 tomorrow. Drove my car in 'snow' mode today on fresh, wet snow. Very surprised with the good traction on the stock tires. I really noticed the lack of a rear window wiper. I am moving from a 2018 Crosstrek.

In order to improve efficacy OEMs spec tires with thinner treads to reduce rolling resistance. This leads to reduced tire life for these efficiency optimized tires. It looks good on ratings to sell the car, but increases costs to the customer in tire replacement. retired tire engineer

@@TheIoniqGuy This is an engineering tradeoff. If you save on tire life you may pay in decreased energy efficiency. You can't optimize for everything at once. You can also reduce rolling resistance by going to a tread compound that has lower hysteresis loss for lower rolling resistance, but you usually lose on traction.

The look of the ioniq 5 is much more interesting, Tesla have very good car but I found them lacking for the look, for the buttons, for the only electrical handles and for the reparation price. I love my white Ioniq 5.

Just switched from a Model 3 to an I5 AWD -not Ultimate (canada -Limited in US I think). Totally agree on the walk away locking. Such a pain. And having to turn the car off. Also completely agree on the steering mode. Too loose in eco and Normal. Don’t feel as confident in highway. Wish sport mode firmness was on no matter what mode.

I'm in the same boat here in northern Ontario . I was expecting my Ionic5 in the spring of 2023 but was hoping I might receive it earlier. About a couple months back I was informed it may be spring/summer of 2024. 😞 I ordered a 2022 but was told to expect a 2023. Now I'm wondering if it will be a 2024 or possibly even a 2025. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Nice video.. but i do wonder, can you put neutral gear when you park and then turn off the car and lock it? Because in my place, due to limited space, sometimes you have to park the car in parallel and would block other cars way to get out, so it should be able to be moved if you have to do parallel park, so other people cars can get out.

In Europe i have the auto lock feature for the doors if i walk away. 2021 Ioniq 5 AWD with highest trim level

Call Hyundai of Bangor.. they were installing DC chargers when I picked my car up in July. Maybe they can tell you when they will be live.

I have 1 question for you. Why cant we open any other doors while the car is on and in park mode? even that you have the remote with you in your pocket or even use the remote to unlock other door or trunk and it wont unlock or open. especially when you try to cool the car down while getting your groceries or kid inside the car from other door and it is getting annoying because you had to go to the driver car door to do all these activities (only place that work)

Have the same car as yours, SEL and same color. Did you look into xpel front of your car?

You mentioned your system for powering your house from the car but can't see a link.

20 wheels give you worse range. As for ordering with options or changes you pretty much get it however the trim is arranged. There’s no special ordering that I’ve seen.

Does anyone have an opinion on the stereo in the SEL versus the Limited?

I wonder if one could order the European larger front frunk and install it in the US RWD version?

As I understand it, for E-GMP cars you want to keep the battery between 20% and 80%, occasionally charging to 100% every few months or for long trips. Level 2 charging (7-11kw) is best as it degrades the battery less than level 3 (50+kw). Level 1 charging (120-240v household) is for occasional or emergency use, not only because it is slow, but also because I have heard it does not recharge the 12v battery (though that may not be accurate).

Mine does not have the light at the top of the dashboard. Mine opens the front bumper vents when topping off the 12volt battery.

It doesn’t make sense that auto lock when walking away is missing. I just bought an ionic 5 limited. When I walk up to the front of the car and maybe a little to the side it opens but if I walk away quickly as if I was just walking past the car it locks again. So clearly this is software, and can do it.

Great video! Thank you. Interesting that the yellow light is inside the car instead of on the outside front as with the Kona electric. Have you had the problem of the small 12 volt battery going dead and not being able to "start" the car? I have had that happen 3 or 4 times with my 2020 Kona electric to the point I now carry a small portable charger with me. Too bad you can't check the state of charge or initiate charging of the small battery using the Bluelink app. I wonder if perhaps the charging system for the small battery is circumvented when charging the main battery.

@@1silverounce324 It would have been around that point that it first happened to me. No need to panic if it does. If you get in and the car won't start and gives you error messages on the dash, all you need is a boost to that small battery. From a 12 volt battery pack or a 12volt vehicle(ice or from the small 12 volt battery of an electric).

@@MattWunder that orange light means it’s charging your 12 volt battery. Mine was on all the time as well. Ultimately hyundai had to buy my car back because there was a ghost drain on that 12 volt battery they could never figure out. Ultimately it went through two 12 volt batteries in 5 month. Then it burned out the charging circuit to that battery because it was over using. This doesn’t mean you have the same issue like mine did. Definitely keep an eye on it.

Yo Wyndmoor PA Plan on getting the Hyundai Ionic 5N 2023

I miss the walk away locking. my Ariya had it. my Tucson Gas powered doesn't have it. does Hyundai just not do it? as you sY..the hardware is there as it senses for approach unlock. maybe a software upgrade?? other than that this has all and more than the Ariya. And the battery pack on my 2023 charges 20 to 80 in 14 minutes at the fast charger. i do have level 2 at home. I'm waiting to take a trip with it. I admit...I'm old fashioned and prefer the more traditional look of the Ariya outside...but once inside and driving..I love my Ioniq 5.

Big Question - Can a rear windshield wiper be added? The design makes it almost impossible to get the rear window clean even going thru a carwash!

I don't see that ever becoming an aftermarket accessory or dealer add-on. It would be far too complex to incorporate

Does the Ioniq 5 (and EV6) have a physical door child lock mechanism in the door along with the child door+window lock on the driver (electronic)? Looks like in the UK at least they have a mechanical door lock turned with a screw driver as I may want to allow my kid to let the window down but not open the door especially on street side. BTW I'm in Canada so Kia/Hyundai products may be made in Korea rather than U.S. etc so perhaps has different build

Just got one in Canada. Just the electronic as far as I can tell (on driver’s side door) for windows and door locks. The manual says the same.

Is the “Car to Load” feature available in all trims or is it only usable in the highest trim?

You don't. The Limited trim can show it on the HUD, But only when using the native navigation system.

I just got mine and it does auto lock as you walk away, but it's inconsistent. Still trying to figure out the sequence of when it does and doesn't, but it is available.

If I walk past my car with the key fob in my pocket, the doors will initially unlock but will relock as I walk away. Doesn't work if I enter the car.

Is the bluelink app the only way to unlock the charger? Thanks guys

So I have a question I thought I would run past you. I have addressed this on Forums and others have had similar results as me. I have also had the car looked at by Hyundai and they found nothing. I have had my Ioniq5 now a few months have about 4K miles on it. I have a Juicebox Level 2 charger (40amp) The problem is if the charging setting is set to Maximum or reduced (on the vehicle) the vehicle will only charge for 30 minutes to 1.5 hrs and then turn off. You wake up and it is not charged. If I charge on the Mnimum setting it will charge and not turn off but the charging time is a lot longer because the amp rate is much lower. I spoke to the Juicebox people and they looked at my charging history through their site and found nothing out of the ordinary and even sent me a new one to make sure it wasn't a defect. (Nice of them) Hyundai told me they charged the vehicle at their shop and had no issues but they use a chargepoint level 2 charger which is 32 amp which makes a difference. I tried to explain to them the issue but they really didn't listen. So I'm still frustrated because it still does not charge at higher amp rates like 9.6amp and it should with no problem. FYI, I can charge on a DC charger no issues. I wondered if you ever heard of this before. Some on the Forums have said this is a EVSE problem but I have no idea just wanted your input if you know anything about this. Thanks for your time and your videos. I watch them all and find them helpful and interesting.

This is absolutely not an EVSE problem. I've had at least a dozen people reach out to me with the exact same issue as you. I spoke with Hyundai engineering and they are aware of the problem and their R&D division here in the US is investigating and hopefully coming up with a solution. Very frustrating for sure but at this point in time I think your best course of action is to just lower the charge current either in the car or on your EVSE and hope that a fix is released in the near future. Have you noticed this happening when the temperature is above a particular level or is this anytime when charging over 9kW?

@@TheIoniqGuy Well great question but I live in PHX, AZ so our temps are ALWAYS hot and I've only had the vehicle for a few months. I will be interested to see what happens when winter temps hit. (For us Winter temps are 60-80 F) so it may make a difference. I really appreciate you getting back so fast and letting me know others are experiencing the same thing. They Hyundai dealer I'm using is pretty ignorant to what is happening. While I have you there is another issue with my vehicle. The charging door does not work when you press it from the outside. I had them look at this as well and they said they just had 2 others come in the same week with the same issue and they don't have a fix for it at this time, Since you have a connection with Hyundai have you heard of this issue and are they working on a solution. Pretty annoying actually. Thanks again.

@@TheIoniqGuy Yes, I too like the Kelceecs mates and they seem perfect, except I would have to leave my center console all the way back. I prefer not to do that. I've seen others that work with the console forward, but they font cover the dead peddle. I'll keep looking.

For the planning, tesla do it...for it's network. That's why it can as it's his own information. The recomanded mats are are no go for winter (real winter). As for the tires wear, I'm not convinced. I guess it has more to do with acceperation. I have a prius V (for now...) and tires are either 16 or 17", so 3" less for a car that is almost the same size. So the 19-20" tires are there to deal with that weight. But if it's on sport mode... Also, remember that touring tires tend to last longer, compared to performance tires. Lastly, you totally forgot the most important: the board on the left of the wheel for magnets. It's a scandal!

Different topic, but still important to me: How are the Emblems holding? Do you regret it or are you still happy with it? Did you get questions about it from strangers? Thx!

I can't seem to find, anywhere, whether the SEL comes with a Vehicle-to-Load adaptor. I know it doesn't have the back seat outlet, but I can't find an answer about the adaptor that plugs into the charging port. Does anyone know?

None of the trims in North America come with the adapter. It’s reasonably priced in Canada as an add-on, but they’re expensive in the US for some reason. Many online posts discuss buying the Korean version and an adapter. I think I personally would bite the bullet and pay the price in the US, or try to get one from Canada. I’m still waiting for my car so I don’t have any first-hand knowledge.

My car is in level 3 but the brake lights DO NOT come on in I Pedal when my wife lets off the pedal half way. It really slows down but I was following her talking on the phone and I really closed in on her fast. So for my 2023 that is not true that they come on.

Now when you say “Northern Maine” are you talking Bangor, or the REAL Northern Maine like Presque Isle, Caribou, Van Buren, Fort Kent, and Madawaska?

I'm sorry...I understand you can thrash the tires by romping on the car but I'm still trying to come to grips with this idea that the weight of an EV is what is wearing the tires out faster. So if I drive around in a 2+ ton truck you're telling me that an equally weighted EV will wear the tires out faster?!?!? I own this car and I have 20k on it. Tires are fine. This myth is killing me!!!!
