    Thank you so much! No not at all, you don’t need to wipe it back. It may take longer to dry/cure, it it’s not ruined. When I do ,y 3 color blended look with sfo, I don’t wipe back, I apply with sponge applicators and then just keep blending with brushes and let dry.

    Hi!! I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I love it! You are so knowledgeable!! I am planning to re-do steps that are stained in golden oak. Can you advise me on which to use- fusion gel stain or SFO. I want to change the color to cappuccino and paint the spindles in raw silk?? What is the difference in the two products? Tks!

    So I don’t have a lot of experience with the gel stain yet, fusion just sent me some but I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t speak to that product particularly. The sfo was made for flooring, once cured very durable. They both are stain and topcoat in one, just different formulas. If you need more assistance I do teach virtually 30 and 60 min one on ones!

    Just when I was looking into Amulent paint, and I couldn't find enough reviews about it...I get your review on this paint. I'm so happy that you had a positive experience, because I really wanted to try it. My prime question always is the durability of the paint. The coffee break looks really good - just the colour I was looking for among others. (would you compare it to Fusion's Algonquin?)Thanks so much!

    I am so glad! It came out beautifully. I really liked it. as for the color I would say its in the same color family as Algonquin. Algonquin is actually lighter, not as deep of a color, but when put together, very similar color family. As for durability, when I come across a pain that does not have a requirement of top coat but optional, I am always impressed. I use GF, Fusion and now The Chippy Barn has the same quality!

    So you have to be careful when applying the natural SFO on light colors and little lamb is a light one! It will yellow or amber your color a tad. I wouldn't recommend using it or I would tell you to try it first on a test piece to see what you think. It is going to change the color of the painted piece a bit, its a oil based stain (even though natural - it still has a tint to it)

    Born in a Barn Boutique again, thanks for your very fast response. I took your advice and did not try the natural SFO. Instead I tried the white on a practice piece & I love it. It is perfect. The table top I ended up using little lamb as the base coat and then raw silk for a blended look. Then after waiting a full day I just added the fusion SFO in white. It looks so pretty and I am so happy with it. I am really enjoying using fusion paints and stains. Thanks for all your help.

    So they are completely different products - I have used their glaze as well and I would say to use this stain like a glaze over a painted piece is a bit easier, there is a little more workability time with it. This is a stain to traditionally I wouldn't really compare to a glaze since they are different - does that make sense?

    Hi I was helping a friend put sfo ebony onto of coal black desk top. I wet sanded and took wiped off all the excess then did two coats of ebony and wiped excess off with pad applicator. It dried with so many streaks. How do I fix it please. Possibly let it dry and then steel wool and then hemp oil? Also the applicator pad left a lot of lint on it?'

  • @BorninaBarnBoutique

    @BorninaBarnBoutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    It can be trick to work with as a top coat - I typically don't use it for that. If you climate is hot and dry it is going to set quicker making it hard to get a really good finish. Also I wouldn't wipe the excess off with anything white or that may leave lint behind. I apply with a sponge applicator brush and wipe off with the round foam applicators (I have some in my Amazon shop for reference - some people like to wipe back with an applicator like that but cover in a nylon stocking (panty hose) much better - no lint behind. I would wet sand with 600 or 800 grit and then apply another topcoat of your choice - hemp oil will work but not as durable and will need to be reapplied down the line.

    @@BorninaBarnBoutique thanks. I actually used the fusion applicator pads that they recommend. I have never had a problem, but chemistry is a weird thing. I could not believe the streaks. So I will let it set another 48 hours for it to dry. The streaks are black and grey, after sanding what would you recommend to restore it back to coal black. I love hemp oil, but will it do it.

    You could, but keep in mind, stains are sheer so it will not cover like a paint would, it will act as more of a toner unless you build up with many coats. I would also fine sand your current finish to rough it up a bit before applying.

    I wouldn’t recommend putting over an already stained piece. I always sand to bare wood, as it is stain and meant to penetrate the wood, not be painted on. It’s sheer and will take a long to dry just put on top (it’s not a gel stain). Some people paint the surface first and then put this stain on top of, giving it something to grab onto as a base and not allowing the current look of the say golden oak to show through. again not the way I would use it and it does take longer to dry but can be done. I hope this helps. I would look into gel stains if you want to go right over an existing finish without sanding.
