The Mosin Improved, M27 & M28/30 - Rifles Of Finland Part II

Ғылым және технология

We continue our multi-part series looking at Finnish military issue rifles. And we hope you like Mosins, because these videos are going to have a lot of them!
In episode #2, we take a look at efforts from both the Finnish Army and Civil Guard to really improve the Mosin rifle system.
Featured rifles include an early production Army M27, an original Civil Guard M28, and its slightly improved cousin; an M28/30.
As bonus rifles, we also look at a different M28 and M28/30, as well as compare them with an M24.

We're really taking our time with these, trying to bring you as many models and variants as possible. So while Pt. #3 might be a bit slow in coming, it will come for sure. Also we have a Pt. #4 on the schedule too.

Really want to get one but they're really hard to find over here as the American surplus market has pretty much gobbled them up.

Please no more dramatic pauses, otherwise good information. I absolutely love my Hungarian M44, I bought is about 15 years ago, plus a thousand rounds of surplus ammo when it was dirt cheap. I can't imagine I will ever run out. Some people scoff at the 54 ammo but owning both I believe is is every bit as powerful as ought 6 ammo, having both.

I have a 1928 Tikka M27 (D marked twice) in a M28 stock marked SYT on the right finger groove (early hinged nose cap). It does not have wings on the matching bolt or the machined slots in the receiver (they stopped this in 33’??). There is no splice in the stock and no SA mark anywhere the barrel or receiver. What gives?

Sorry to be asking a question almost 3 years after this video was posted, but I usually don't watch any videos on a specific gun unless I get the gun. This past weekend I got a Sako m28/30, that is not D marked. What is your take on the 7.62x54R vs 7.62x53R story? I have read so much conflicting information on the internet, I don't know if it's safe to shoot my rifle or not. I know you can't go to your local gun store and buy 7.62x53R ammo & I don't reload.

From what I’ve read, you should be fine shooting 7.62x54r ammo. Hope this helped

Ahh the good ol garbage rod. Mosens really have a fascinating history, for a mechanically "Ok" rifle designed in 1891 they really got around, and pumped out, by the millions, until the mid 50s apparently. Why did Poland and Romania make Mosens post war instead of mausers? especially Romania considering they where already using Mausers? heck if I know! but why not pump out M44s by the millions! i really do love the things though, the where tweaked a lot over the years but never lost that 1890s vibe, my favorite is the M44 Patten, the back end belongs in the 1800s and the front in the 60s (visually, in my opinion)

Hungary, Romania, and Poland all made Mosins because Big Brother told them to haha...China though, they made those suckers to use them.

@@therideneverends1697 I go to a store called Collectors Firearms in Houston, TX. For my 19th birthday, I decided to buy a Mosin. My brother came to my house and picked me up to go there so I could pick a Mosin out to buy (they have an entire section dedicated for Mosins). As I was sorting through all the different Mosins, mainly being the 1891, 1891/30, M38, M44, and the Finnish M39, I found a Chinese Mosin. Every rifle was in good shape, except for the Chinese. That thing was in horrible condition. I was going to grab a mismatched M38, until I found an all matching 1891/59 with a receiver date of 1942 in excellent shape hiding in the corner. I didn't pass that opportunity up, it's what I ended up buying lol. But yeah I could not believe how bad in shape that Chinese Mosin was. It looked like it had been used to beat people across the head with the stock until it cracked, and then was thrown in a swamp in Vietnam for 30 years before being pulled out and exported to the US. Kinda made me sad to see it in such rough shape.
