Ireland did not beat us up: they humbled us yesterday. On our own patch. Yesterday was as brutal a Rugby Test match as I have ever seen. The Irish tackled us as if their lives depended on it. And then played like a #1 team to win it. Congratulations and well played Ireland, massive respect to Ireland from all Bok fans. It was an incredible game. You'll always be welcome back Ireland, you formidable opponents. As for you, Eggchaser: we Saffers are stoked that your first sojourn to South Africa was what we intended: amazing, with lots of Biltong and Brannas. See you soon!

You did the same to us on week one squeezed us and forced us into a lot of handling errors. This was one hell of a test series. Any game involving Ireland South Africa and New Zealand tends to become an instant classic because those three throw everything at each other. That was definitely one of the most physical test series I’ve ever seen.

In the last 4 minutes, while SA was trying to protect a lead, they kicked the ball to Ireland repeatedly, asking them to score instead. In response Ireland passed the ball into touch and then kicked it directly into touch. The two best teams in the world can surely do better than that. Surely.

Just to pile onto the Osbourne and Frawley hype but Osbourne caught 7 from 7 high balls yesterday. Wicked impressive from the young man. Frawley HAS to be the 10 for Leinster now. Ross byrne has been completely blown out of the water and has shown his conservative and almost apprehensive and shy style doesnt work for ireland. The balls on frawley to go for 2 drop goals and a grubber for Lowe to chase in the last 5 minutes is incredible. Was always worried we didnt have anyone ready to backup Keenan but now we do. But Ireland showed tremendes courage, mental toughness and fightback to edge out the Springboks in a pulsating and nail-biting game. Well done Ireland, I think this will be Ireland's launching pad to dominate world rugby in years to come: they have the structure, depth and brilliance. Hi Tim, To your question around future development of both sides, I think Ireland need to do a few things, including: 1: Develop some looseheads to replace Healy (who did well off the bench yesterday). In the short term that might involve converting Jager or Bealham, but in the medium term keep an eye out for Joe McCarthys brother who has the potential to be an Andrew Sheridan type loosehead. 2: Get more depth at tighthead, by fast tracking the likes of Scott Wilson in Ulster and potentially Rory McGuire in Leinster. The emerging Ireland tour to SA is ideal in that regard (what a great idea that format is for Ireland!) 3: Ease POM out of the team and start developing the likes of Izuchukwu, Edogbo, Gleeson et al 4: Use Farrell's absence with the Lions to develop Easterby and O'Connell as future Irish head coaches ..... and then use the 2 years after the lions to purely and exclusively figure out a way to win a World Cup quarter final ! For South Africa I think they are going to spend the next 2 years developing this "all court" game they're working on, while also phasing out a number of stalwarts. They have huge depth and plenty of time, so could easily win a third World Cup on the bounce in 2027 Great 2 match series but I'm glad the Irish players are now getting a rest ..... and I'm also delighted that they have won the respect of the saffers in SA. We're punching well above our weight with only 160 pro players and with Rugby being the 3rd or 4th sport here (there were 80,000 people in croke park watching the Gaelic football yesterday, while the rugby in Durban was on) Two great teams and long may the rivalry continue

Very good analysis. I would add to that the two Centre positions. We have four excellent centres currently, but all four are on the wrong side of 30. Ringrose and Henshaw might be young enough to make a World Cup in 2027 but their legs will be half gone by then. When you look at the Centre options in the Provinces, nobody other than Osbourne jumps out. Ireland and the Provinces need to step up the developmemt of high quality Centres. Irish teams have always been defined by high quality centres so we need to be sure we don't let that slip. TBH, perhaps the NIQ ban should be universal and not just limited to front row. The Centre positions are where all the Provinces have resorted to NIQs in the past 10 years, and i do think it has served to weaken our homegrown options at Centre.

Firstly, I think the balance of your content and opinions is great and well done to Ireland for a great display of commitment, precision and sheer physicality to come away with that win. Well deserved. I did want to ask your opinion, and maybe you can take a good look at it, but I was seated in the South stand, basically behind the poles, and it was very easy to notice how effectively Ireland created a defensive wall of players to protect the catcher on our high balls. It destroyed our ability to chase and create real pressure, and win ball, which we generally manage to do in these situations, and was brilliantly executed. Clearly well practiced and great thinking by Coach Farrell.

I'm a Bok fan and I really respect the Irish team for giving it a 100% even though the odds were against them. The Boks had to also get humble after the 6 match winning streak. It comes to show that the margins in the top tier rugby teams are so narrow! Really exciting to watch rugby in this era! 🎉

Frawley laid down a 'serious marker' for club and country yesterday. Crowley is still No 1, but now we have a real bench option. Osborne was fantastic in both tests ... yes he made a couple of minor errors (mainly in the 1st Test) but for a 22 year old rookie who hadn't played fullback since the U20's ... OUTSTANDING and again a real bench option for Keenan post Olympics. Having read a lot of player ratings, reviews etc .... NOBODY seems to have noticed the impact of Ringrose coming back into the team. He was immense and marshalled the Irish backline defense all day and was a huge reason why SA never had a sniff of a try!

Many people say Ireland doesn't have depth. They lost Gibson Park, Casey came in and had a brilliant game. Casey got injured and the third choice scrumhalf performed yesterday. Ireland has four very good franchises that can compete with any teams in the world. Ireland will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the future. A well deserved victory for Ireland. 1-1 is a fair reflection of the series. Both teams could have won both tests. Not much to choose between the two top teams in the world. Thanks Tim for keeping us posted.

We need to humble ourselves, learn from this experience and build steadily to the next world cup. Through years and years of watching rugby me (a Saffa rugby fanatic) have always said that if Ireland can get the players they will be the best. Ireland has always played the game with huge hearts and with everything they have. A full 80 minutes. Win or loose. Now tthat you have the players and world class players it must be said, Ireland will win big test matches and you did. A series in NZ and a hell of two tests in SA. If you did not have a quarterfinal draw against the AB's in the #RWC then things might have looked different. The draw was ridiculous and to beat the top teams to win it make South Africa the World Champions for sure but it was a stupid draw for a #RWC. Rugby is also there to be enjoyed between nations. Win or loose, the fight stayes on the field, for such a brutal but brautiful sport. Ireland deserved to win and all said and done it was two awesome test matches from our Galic friends. You can be very proud supporters in how you played the game and deserved to win the second test. #Irishrugby #TeamOfUs #Springboks #Eggchasers #ForeverGreenForeverGold #StrongerTogether #TwoCents #Wildcard #Squidgerugby

I listened to Caelan Doris in his interview before that match and his whole attitude was we are coming out a different team this time, we will stick together and fight. Show a number of up and coming players the squad training. Then start them fresh in Nov. South Africa looked much better with their younger replacements. I like WIlliams at 9. Ireland needs props, that is our main issue. Also, great to see England sticking it to NZ, shame they didn't pull it off. I hope they continue to rise.

Keeping the same side for the second test backfired. They looked like they left it all at Loftus. It was a poor start by boks, and a good start from Ireland. The guys were walking back to defensive formation, and Ireland struck. For me that was the difference on the day. Ireland deserved to win in my opinion. In hindsight, the coaches could have played Roos at 8, started with Grant at 9.

What a great win for Ireland and deservedly for both sides a drawn series. As a Leinster & Ireland fan, I'm delighted to see Ciarán Frawley drop goal to win the game. He missed one in the last minute which would have won Leinster the Champions Cup. Those type of misses can make or break a player. Good game. Good Irish win. Both teams had some very good moments, up and down. In the end, the game and result came to one key moment. It was a great kick toward the touch line with 78 min plus on the clock. SA plays safe and shields the ball into touch, Ireland gets a lifeline. SA takes a chance and waits to see if the ball hits touch without intervention. It's an SA lineout with a chance to close out the game. Good on the Irish to make the most of this moment and steal the win. Amazing for them.

We are not called "The Fighting Irish" for nothing. We Celts led by an Anglo Irish head coach, Andy Farrell, are not to be ignored, notwithstanding that rugby comes 4th in our national games and we have only circa 160 professional rugby players in a population of 5.2m people. If the draw for the RWC had not be contrived against us we would have been in the RWC final. Andy Farrell is a national hero and is to rugby what the great Jack Charlton was to our national soccer team that brought great pride and achievement to our country while competing amongst the great football nations of the world. Our day will come I am sure under Andy Farrell. ☘️☘️

I think likely that was POM’s last match - I think he was retained for leadership qualities after the RWC because the team had lost natural leaders like Sexton, Earls, etc., and other candidates like James Ryan were no longer guaranteed for selection in the match day 23. However, with Doris assuming the captaincy over the two tests, I think they’ll feel the transition is safe. At 34, it’s going to be increasingly difficult for him to outperform his rivals. Wouldn’t shock me if that was his last game in an Irish jersey and he retired from club rugby at the end of 24-25 season. In the autumn, would love to see more variety in selection. Pretty much all of the newer faces who played in the 6N and summer games were there because of injury or retirement. There are a lot of great players with potential in the provinces who deserve more opportunities to develop themselves in the cauldron of test rugby. Tom Stewart, James Hume, Robert Balacoune, Cian Prendergast, Gavin Coombes, John Hodnett, Tom Ahern, Max Deegan, Diarmuid Barron, Matthew Devine, Niall Murray, Aidan Morgan.
