I have this preconception that Northampton are a team with youngsters who play attacking rugby but could be unpicked in big matches but then you look at there actual lineup and there is some serious talent and experienced heads there.

I think that the squad in any club has integrated skills in every position ,with the "back-up" players every bit as competent as those perceived to be first choice players, and a lot of positions are "partner" positions, for instance the centre's are often paired, half backs, locks, loosies likewise, so I'm sure Leinster are not weakening their team by rotating and resting.

I don't think it's as out there a call as you say. In Knockout rugby points count and when it comes to drop goals ford is Swiss-Watch consistent. Russell is a more interesting 10 and better over a season but if the game is narrow it's not a crazy call.

Leinster could very well lose this game, Leo Cullen has a terrible habit of underestimating teams. Also his selections are just plain crazy. Every player who was on the bench last week should be starting tonight. Frawley clearly needed more game time at 10 and what does Cullen do. Throws in Prendergast who will start at 10 and then play no further rugby till September. Absolute waste.

Wondered on your thoughts Tim , after reading so many negative comments on Leo Cullen from Leinster fans . Noticed only recently how cullens own fans seem to have lost faith in him . I’m surprised but I certainly don’t have the depth of knowledge on these matters. I’m all tigers and England.

Hi Tim, Tuilangi has a grade 1 hamstring strain. If sale were to make the final, he should be available, but unfortunately, he doesn't seem to heal as fast as others

Interesting Leinster selection….all things being equal, would they prefer 4th and a full blooded, grudge match, local derby against Munster in the semi, or a long & tiring journey to and from the high veldt against a cracking Bulls team 🤔

Interesting one re: Ford vs. Russell, I lean to Ford being somehow still underestimated as a player, Russell still being seen as ‘mercurial’ when he’s a very very very good player all round; but as you say, he’s not got much of a history of being in winning teams…

Last week's game ran to extra time the effects of which on Leinster could not have been anticipated. Player welfare trumps all!
I understand and even share Ford's picking over Russell. As an Argentine, I have suffered in the World Cup his drops. But Russell is truly extraordinary and his magic can solve a close game in one play.

So excited for this weekend, some huge match-ups. I would be so confident of a Saints victory if it wasn't for Ben Earl. If he can pull out a performance like he has done for England it could be the difference in a tight game. If Saints can keep him buried at the bottom of rucks rather than carrying they will probably win. Agree on George Ford. Fin is a great player, but Ford has a track record of showing up for big games and you know if Sale get parity up front they will play in the right parts of the field. As we saw against Italy, Fin sometimes doesn't guarantee that.
