Excellent video Tim, it's going to be a smashing finale in these next couple of games. I have a hunch about one game. I think Connacht will beat the Stormers, particularly if it's a typical wet and windy Galway. On the top 8 I think Connacht will replace Bennetton.

Between interpros and last match in RDS for over a year plus then departing centurions like Molony, will likely see not just a strong team but a committed team. The Glasgow result at the weekend was stunning, definitely thrown the cat amongst the pidgeons for the run in.

URC in rude health since the Saffas joined. Really enjoying the comp. Come on Munster.

Well said. I really really hope that it pushes rugby UNION to new heights, despite the attempts by World Rugby to do whatever they can to reduce it to league. The Investec (another good South African company originally) Championship has for a long time been the pinnacle of the club game for me and it's so fantastic to see how it is growing even more. Who needs so-called Super Rugby any more? THEY'RE the ones who should just give up and go to league and leave the rest of the rugby world alone.

Leinster won't be B teaming it, Leo has already stated so. The return of Byrne, Ringrose and Keenan, all need game time, as well as keeping the rest match fit, lessons learned from the last few years.

Leinster-Connacht is the last match at the RDS before redevelopment. Not sure Leinster will chance losing that one.

Thanks Tim again. Remember , 8 th position not guaranteed Champions Cup rugby next year as Sharks are in Challenge Cup final against a poor Gloucester side. If Sharks win then only top 7 in URC table go through to Champions Cup rugby so point is no one will want 8th position. Also , Leinster will go strong for Ulster next weekend . Against Ospreys they had Tommy OBrien and Jimmy OBrien back playing . Jamie Osborne and Ciaran Frawley playing as well and rest of team playing 45-50 min. Leinster looked more Iike themselves in second half . Also , if fitness rumours are true then Will Connors will be ok next week as will be Ringrose and Keenan . James Ryan looks to be on way back as well . They will have to play next week if they have any chance of Champions Cup final. So, all in all, expect strong team against Ulster. Finally , Glasgow v Lions will be very interesting as Lions will be fighting for their top 8 position and will go all in to beat Glasgow . Yes, last match Glasgow can expect full 5 points against Zebre and Leinster will face either energised or dejected Connacht .

I think Leinster will go strong both games. Don't forget Ringrose, Keenan & Ryan are expected back and will need game time. A Leinster 2nd team could beat Connacht at home, ie Keenan, T O' Brien, Ringrose, Ngtai, Russell,H Byrne,Mc Grath, Milne, Kelleher, Alatoa, Ryan, Maloney, Deegan, Conan, Connors..

I would have loved to see all four Irish provinces make into the last 8. But I'm greedy..

I'm really looking forward to this year's playoffs. it feels bigger again. Hope the Welsh teams can come back stronger next year. Leinster supporter here.

In order... I actually think that Ospreys could sneak into the top 8. They are likely to get 10 points against Welsh opposition. 1. I think the Lions will beat Glasgow. As you know, winning away in altitude is not easy. I think Leinster made this calculation when they sent their academy to their South African tour. 2. Connacht will not be pushovers when they host the Stormers. In contrast, I can't see Connacht beating Leinster, 2nd team or not. 3. I think Benetton will lose the next 2 games. 4. I think Edinburgh will lose 1 out of 2 (against Munster) 5. Stormers will win against the Lions. I'm not sure about the Connacht game. 6. Bulls, Munster and Leinster will win their last 2 games. 7. Glasgow will easily beat Zebre but I think your dismissing Lions too much. 8. I think Ulster Will lose the last 2 games. This means that Leinster and Munster will win home advantage in the semis, if they get there.

I'm not sure you can count Ospreys out. They have 2 winnable games vs Dragons and Cardiff, and 3 of the 4 teams they can catch are unlikely to win again.

Great Video again, lots of very different scenarios and with some of the south African teams as well as Munster finding really good form at the right time of the year, its anyone’s guess how this will end up, Add to that, that if the sharks with the European Shield, they will qualify for European Cup and will reduce URC from 8 to 7 qualifiers (if they don’t get in top 8 themselves) Leinster also have Keenan, Ryan and Ringrose available for Ulster as well as a recently returning Jimmy O’Brien who was excellent at the weekend, I think the current top 4 will be the top four at the end. I think it is too late for Connacht to qualify but think Lions could make top 8 at Edinburgh’s expense, Ulster and Benetton and stormers to complete the list

I wonder whether adding a feature like: 5 bonus points to the team topping the log at the mid-point of the season, which could create a bit of the same junction as we see now racing for playoffs.

They wont rest anyone for any matches regardless of CC final. Learned that lesson last couple of years. They need two 5 point wins to get home advantage.

Just an FYI, it’s not just home in 1st and semis, URC has a home final as well. Highest ranked side in the final gets a home game. Massive to avoid going to Leinster for us (Glasgow go get 1st)

That isn't a rule that is set in stone it is just what the organisers have decided is best for the competition. They have allowed themselves wiggle room to ultimately make the decision as they see fit. If Glasgow end up top and make the final there is every chance the final would be in Edinburgh due to lack of availability of other stadia. Hampden would have been the obvious choice but there is a music event on at the same time.

Would love to see the Lions or Treviso in the champion's cup but with this conference system, Ospreys will be given the slot regardless of finishing outside the top 8 as was the case last year. Eggchasers rugby ranks 1/60 of my subscriptions, fairly closely followed by ol' Jimmy Hamilton; SA rugby supporters will agree. 80k subscribers in 7 months for quality analysis, insight and content by a genuine no-frills normal chap- that is very rarely seen. Onwards and upwards bro. You will have a rocking time in my beloved SA the next few months. 100k by Christmas is a given.

Conference system doesn't impact European places anymore

Great overview Tim as always. The coming match-ups are looking very tasty. If Leinster put too much into the Toulouse game then they could end up having another barren year in terms of silverware - they need to get the balance right. On another subject, I think it would make sense for the premiership to join the URC turning the URC into 2 divisions with relegation and all that entails. What do you think?

If Leinster lose against Toulouse, I'd expect them to go all out against Connacht; the URC becomes their top focus. Another likely scenario is that Ringrose and Keenan are brought back for the Connacht match - not exactly a weakened team!

Win or lose in heino they will go full strength no reason not to and its a must win game

Here we are considering which teams may rest players with an eye on bigger upcoming fixtures.... like it's as normal as toast.... and why not? Player management is an accepted, crucial part of the game.... Ireland learnt that the hard way at RWC 2023.... does this put into perspective how ridiculous Courtney Lawes recent comments about the Bulls fielding an "underpowered" team is? 🤔

I think you won't see a "B" selection from Leinster as such. Guys like Ringrose and Keenan will need gametime. You can swap in Connors for VDF for example and lose very little. I suspect we'll get 9pts from the last 2 fixtures, just missing out on top spot. I think Glasgow effectively secured top spot with their 2pts vs Bulls.

I'd wager we'll see Dan Sheehan, Joe McCarty, Jack Conan, Gibson park, Harry Byrne, Ringrose, Lowe, O'Brien and Keenan all starting next week along with a few other rotations in prep for the final. Those are all players who didn't start against Ospreys but will hardly weaken the team. You could argue it's a stronger team next week just with these selections.

​@straights . Yep. My thoughts, exactly. Probably have Ala'alatoa and Healy starting with Fulong and Porter on the bench. I hope Kelleher starts with Sheehan on the bench, because I know there must be a temptation to have McKee in the squad. We may see James Ryan and Connors, too. The backline can rotate slightly. H Byrne may start. And, yeah, a formidable backline with Lowe, Henshaw, Ringrose, J O'Brien and Keenan. I think Larmour has solidified his place, IMHO.

It’s like Connacht have a half point extra over lions because number of wins is used as the tie breaker before points diff

URC = best league

For much of the year Ulster have been (figuratively) carrying two bags of cement on their shoulders. Firstly, their coaching team seemed to be demoralised and lacking in inspiration. Richie Murphy has changed that mentality. Secondly they have had a horrendous time with injury, which also highlighted how thin the talent was in certain positions. Whether they can improve the talend in the close season seems unlikely, given their money problems.

I still have this sneaking suspicion that somehow the Lions will qualify in 8th. Not sure why but i can see it happening fir sure

Hope leinster come with a weakened team to ulster, it's a week before champions cup final. Either way 2 points from last two games should see ulster into 7th and guarantees a spot in next year's champions cup.

Connacht were well beaten, but a few moments of very bad luck flattered Munster. Shame if they don't make the playoffs

If you know anything about Benetton they play for 80+ minutes. Now the SA teams are settling in and the NH teams are getting used to them. It can only get better.

I doubt it. When Ireland did the maths, 4 teams feeding in players to the international team allows for competition for places (& injuries & form). The 4th team can be a development/feeder team (as Connacht can be). I think Scotland & Italy have insufficient pro contracts & game time to compete at the top level.

Why is Zebre so poor? They have decent players and beat the Sharks earlier in the season. I don't get it.

8 qualifying makes a joke of a league. Top half could win it. Munster doing well this season but last year's win was jammy after playing dross all season a good knockout run and they win a cup supposedly based on a years playing. I mean id take it if it was my team but its not right

Can any explain to me is it Stormers and Bull safe to qualify for the last round 😢
