Around 1970, I was delivering newspapers in Colo. Spgs. and got stuck in a parking lot. I had stopped with drive tire on a pothole filled with ice. I could not move because the rear end sent power only to the tire on the ice. I was alone so used a newspaper to give some traction. If I had stopped a foot earlier or later I would have been fine. Drove all over the city and never used chains even on hilly streets. I learned where to and where not to stop rather quickly. Years later I did use chains to get around and was amazed how nicely they worked when properly put on. God Bless and Keep the Greasy Side Down!

I live in the north east now, but I lived in CA for 20 years and had friends in the Sierras. CA has so much more snow, and more persistent snow, than the north east. The big difference is that in the NE the major population centers get snow. In my time in CA I seldom saw snow on the hills and only once at sea level in the Bay Area. But the snow in the CA mountains is epic compared to the snow in the NE mountains. People are still skiing in CA long after snow is nothing but a memory in New England. It's mid December now and we've had no snow at sea level in New England, though the mountains have had some snow. In CA there's already enough accumulation to have some runs open at all ski areas. California is just much more extreme than New England.

47:00 Thought. Have a rubber mounted front bumper that "acts" like a long throw shock absorber, so that whenever you come up behind an AHole (in a much slower truck) - or if another SLOW truck pulls out (in front of you) and has a turtle race with one he's been behind forever - (to stop YOU from passing either one). Run up the AHole's rear end with your "dodgem-car" bumper, and SHOVE - SHOVE - SHOVE (until you are both past the slower truck), then back off a shade to see if your "shoved" AHole has gotten the message to let you through, and if not - SHOVE the bytch until he begins to jack-knife in front, (backing off far enough to let him jack right off the road, then slide on through). Always been a dream of mine to own a big rig with enough OMPH to shove an idiot into submission with a "sprung" dodgem bumper (and later - they won't pull the turtle race in front of any other faster truck - in future).

Referring to your comments about truckers not using their mirrors. When I'm behind a rig that's drifting to the right, and then pulling left in their lane in a regular rhythm, I know that the driver is using his mirrors, and I can relax, knowing the driver is paying attention. To conserve fuel I like to drive at a minimum safe speed, and when I see this type of driving I know I can safely draft - at a safe distance. Doing that on a trip from San Diego to Los Banos I was able to average a bit over 40mpg in my 2007 Scion xB.

In regards to the Fox News conclusions/lies. A) Did they cite any studies on tires and semi-trucks and their speeds? I doubt it. B) if they were correct and had studies to prove it then the answer is not slowing speeds, the free market would dictate better tires.

😮Stay.safe drivies❤❤
No way I'm driving in that. I can wait two or three days.
Three things. One shovel to remove snow around tandems. Two you didn't clear rear lights. Three bracket for rear tandem air lines was broken allowing air lines to drag on road.
Man, he must haul A LOT of cheese...😂 Beautiful scenery tho.
Ahh! There you are 🎉
The UK introduced the 56MPH limited to prevent accidents caused by excessive high speeds of Trucks. Mainly to do with Braking distances, i.e. Lower speed means shorter breaking distance.
I had To Chain up in On State Hwy.40 in Wyoming to Colorado that was in February of 2021
I’m glad I drive for Prime! Chains are required, but not used!
Mike, when the trooper saw the troubles you had, he didn't bother the others cause he felt your pain. Or maybe he was freezing his ass off and had to warm up and missed those two.

34:06 Interesting intersection of KZread videos; this same valley appears in Trent Palmer's small airplane video. At 15:45 in his video he lands (going north-ish) in the dry sandy bottom just to the left of where Mike is driving the truck (going south-ish). kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXerzJuie7m7dpc.html Mike: 40.002420 -120.087060 Trent landed at 40.013374 -120.083097 37 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada
Hey Mike, Tires blow mostly because of under-inflation. It' especially bad in the heat. You are so correct, it has nothing to do with the speed.
«Наверное, одна из самых потрясающих песен, которые я когда-либо слышал».
I got a DOT inspection coming through Dallas by a city cop while pulling a H/M load . Some city cops get qualified to do that , looks like cities have found a way to make extra money .
We have snow again here now
Can not tell you how many three railers (real chain) I tore up on dry pavement because of California chain-up stations. Hate driving in California passionately
With Canada fires coming upon us...I welcome seeing snow right now 😅
You are right. These lowlanders are not from the mountains of Colorado. I guess we are unique that cars pass trucks here. LOL "Why do I need chains?..." Man, you've seen how these people drive. ... Legend says, he's still driving with chains on to this day...
Howdy ,I say thanks for letting me eligally ride shotgun with you Mike . I love long hauls wet or dry. Your looking good ,bless you (sneeze) .stay safe .
💪💪🏆🏆🙏🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲
Good old Honey Lake Valley .drove395 slot
Why is a chain on the trailer wheel?
Ngl, i wiped off my phone screen when you got behind the wheel.
you should try to drive the Coquihalla highway in canada
mike ....... great rides ....... what routes mike .............. ??
They’re not going to be short water this year. If only they had reservoirs to impound that melt water.
I read somewhere that California is trying to require all trucks electric, how can they do that.
looks cold! )

being told to chain up, damage and loss of them should be tax deductible

I agree.
I'll tell you I don't miss any of that. Over 2 million miles I've paid my dues.
Hi! I m drivng in Norway and would like to move over there , do you know any places I could try?
It's always a great day when I get to ride shotgun!
You should have put the single on your steer instead of your trailer. it isn't doing anything to help back there.
In regards to the Fox News conclusions/lies. A) Did they cite any studies on tires and semi-trucks and their speeds? I doubt it. B) if they were correct and had studies to prove it then the answer is not slowing speeds, the free market would dictate better tires.
I love this country also ... it’s all we got and i agree it is sad to see it being ripped apart ✌🏼 in all the videos I have watched I have never felt you were really talkin a lot of political stuff ... toothpicks and water is a good thing to have on board ✌🏼
sir what is a glider kit
Good video. Thanks and by the way....I can tell you're scared, scared, scared lol
Kitty litter work 4 that too
I got a star on my car and one on my chest, A gun on my hip and the right to arrest I'm a guy who's the boss on this highway, So watch out what you're doin' when you're drivin' my way If you break the law, you'll hear from me, I know, I'm workin' for the state, I'm a highway patrol If you're drivin' too fast, like you shouldn't do You can bet your boots, I'm comin' after you If you wanna race then get on a race track 'Cause if you try to run away, I'm gonna bring ya back I'm here to keep all the speeders drivin' slow, I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm a highway patrol.
tire chains are for a safety move
I don't think drivers are intentionally holding up drivers, I think they're afraid to get out of the tracks.
never seen chains on a trailer before, is this something you do often? what about chains on the steers?

Hauled many miles on icy logging roads but never put a chain on the trailer but have a steer tire just to stay in the road on corners. Even with diff locks out it wanted to plow straight ahead. But name of the games keep it on the road and up right!
Mike, they are fixin to tear up i40 in north texas. i10 is clogged in Austin, i80 is out soon i40
Add throwing salt
Hi mike hi bessie🚚🚚⛄⛄❄❄
You made me laugh
Bust off that ice on them airline before they break and u get SOL
Why do you drive in the passing lane instead of the clear, empty, right driving lane?
